    Ibanez TS9DX Turbo Tube Screamer

Ibanez TS9DX Turbo Tube ScreamerPublished on 04/07/03 at 15:00
I bought this awesome little guitar effect at Guitar Center for $110. I've been trying to get that SRV sound by changing pickups, different amp, and a boss blues driver pedal. I read that Stevie used the tube screamer so I took a chance.

This thing rocks!! After all this time and money all I needed was this little pedal. I'm sure the pickups and fender amp help but if you want a good blues sound or just increase the mid's from a single coil guitar this is it. Also, there are 4 different settings for the type of boost you want. The drive varies also which is good for me because I like to play clean a lot. You also have tone and level so you have plenty of leeway to get your sound.

I would have to say (if anything) is the green color. I sound like a woman when I say this but when your amplifier is silver and black along with all your wah pedal and effects rack and there's this green pedal. Looks kinda weird but who cares. If it was good enough for Stevie then it's good enough for me.

It's as good as any stomp pedal but a little bit heavier. Seems to be made very sturdy.

For playing the blues I would highly recomend this pedal. I played the tube screamer through a friends Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and it rocked. Of course he went out and bought one. Hey Ibanez, where's my commision. I play a fender fat strat through a small 15 watt fender reverb just for fun and jamming with friends so with the tube screamer it really rocks. The Boss Blues Driver should be discontinued or changes it's name to nice looking blue pedal.

    TS9 with 4 modes
1 knob of drive, a tone, volume and mode selector

    UTILIZATION

    Very easy to use

    SOUND QUALITY

Good overdrive pedal, with its pretty wrapped
The drive is quite small, but after all, what it does, it does very well.
TS9 mode is slightly worse than his little sister, the TS9, but hey, it's still excellent
The three other modes of égamelent are very good, although my preference is the latest, most wrapped (Be careful to turn down the volume when using the latter, otherwise the heels hp) and less distorted.
Just for this mode, the pedal should be purchased.

I have been using a 1 / 2 years now and I do not at all disappointed susi.
I would do for sure this choice, but it would be interesting to compare with the simple or the TS9 reissue before buying (the reissue is a killer ...)

So here's an overdrive pedal in the Ibanez Tube Screamer the last to be out I think.
The goal is to simulate a tube amp crunch (if I'm wrong, mea culpa, send me a message and I'll be happy to correct that).

    UTILIZATION

Very easy to use: Tone, Drive, Level. A button to select more modes.
    manual eh?
you really have to be a three-legged duck not to use this pedal.

    SOUND QUALITY

I use this pedal with an Ibanez S-470 Sol.
Frankly, I was very surprised the sound is very correct, very friendly, and I do not understand negative reviews on this pedal, especially comparing it with the TS-9 and 808 ...

The 808 is € 200, it is not in the same category ...

The 9 is less than € 30 and exactly the same circuit as the DX position "TS"

We may as well change the TS9 ...

In terms of sound, in general, is a pedal that eats a lot treble (I admit still play at least 2 hours on the tone knob all the time) but really a single grain ...

It is true that other modes contribute very little on the other hand. (TS mode> all)

    OVERALL OPINION

I use this pedal for several weeks now.
I love the look, sound ... everything!
I tried a pedal tube "homemade", which made pretty good!
Obtained in time for € 75 ... frankly, this is the first good thing I do in music / (505 Zoom II ... HAHA

The Tube Screamer, once we played, we understand why it's a foot "safe bet". Try, you will be delighted! (And cons if you want a modern metal sound. It is a product vintage eh: p)

    UTILIZATION

This pedal is incredibly easy to use. After plugging in to a guitar and amp, the first thing to do is choose a mode. TS9 mode is the classic mode, + mode is like a TS9 with just a little bit "extra", Hot mode has increased low-end grind, and Turbo mode just sounds like a fire-breathing gain beast! then, dial in the amount of dirt. EQ to taste with the tone control, and set the volume control as desired.

    SOUND QUALITY

The pedal sounds great for guitar or bass. Most players will use it as a boost, where stepping on it adds a volume jump for a solo. I like to use it as a "low end tightener" - when engaged in front of an amp that's already driven hard with plenty of gain, this will tighten up the bottom frequencies and allow the guitar to cut through.

I'm not a huge fan of the Hot or Turbo modes, as they get a bit too fizzy for me. The TS9 mode sounds like it should, very similar to old Stevie Ray Vaughan records, and the + mode is where I like to leave it.

    OVERALL OPINION

This is a solid product from Ibanez. It comes in a durable housing, so I'm not worried about gigging it. The sound quality is great for the price, and for tone freaks that like to tinker, the pedal can be modded to upgrade the components. If one wants to outsource a component upgrade - Keeley does a great job on this particular pedal, as does Analogman. Overall, this is a great value for the price.

I think the problem comes from its use.
It was on that for Korn or Guns, it will not really do it.
If free of rock or 60's you try more, it will go much better!

The major difference is probably that the DX has a sound a bit more "modern" than his little sister. There are more grain, but set correctly, you can find almost the same sound as the TS8.

should be compared with a TS9, I have not had a chance, but I'm willing to bet it goes.
The different modes are certainly a bit superfluous, but by dint of hacking, we can work something out.
Especially on clean tones with a slight crunch.
On the mode TS9 you can give a field day with the drive to the bottom, it sounds.

    OVERALL OPINION

I must have been about a year.
Influenced by the advice, she sprayed my rig, replaced by a TS808.
I put the DX for sale recently, and finally, a few weeks ago, I reconnected, and I'll keep it.
I do not use it the same way that the TS808.
I put a very light on the drive TS8, and 3 / 4 on the DX.
    I think it sounds great.

I do not know if I referrer this choice because I am also eyeing TS808 and I pretty Ducoté Xotic home right now.

But what is certain is that the DX is a good pedal.
Of course, we must know why we buy is a pedal for blues, rock, but not really something else.
As always, it is a matter of ear!

    SOUND QUALITY

the drive is enough to make an overdrive. I use it with a Rickenbacker 4003, all of this file in an old bassman all tube, 4x10 ampeg, and it sounds at the top: the trebble I, aggression I have, but without losing frequency serious as long (as long as I go through my amp, BECAUSE IN THE GRAVE DI MORFLENT SOME STILL).

Me what i like is when I DO balance in my flanger (a boss while purple) and it makes me sound very guile and cure / / siouxsie.

    OVERALL OPINION

    RICKENBACKER 4003 TS9DX + LOVE = FOREVER.

I caught it by a friend at 60 € I think it should be a good year that I play it.
I tested a lot of OD, and they all lacked a little something, heat it, thereby serious, aggressive on this one, "oh no it bobby, this is more of a fuzz than OD "is a bit low concern, and I think that's why we all tend to swing directly fuzz like cattle without much thought.

I'm really cool, I put him 10 over because it looks to me reliable and well built, and with that, even at concerts where the bass is reversed only by an ID, to compensate for absence of saturation tube amp, I always balance all the pieces, and everyone says "oh say, then it's your clown is too cool at the end of the concert.

    UTILIZATION

The configuration of the Ibanez TS-9DX Turbo Tube Screamer is easy to follow overall as it simply has four knobs to work with.  It has parameters for level, drive, tone, and a mode knob.  The mode section has three things to choose from - turbo, hot, and TS9, all of which will give you a varying tone.  I tend to mostly keep it on the TS9 setting as I'm a really big fan of the original TS9 and feel that this mode fits best in with what I am doing, but all of the modes on this sound good.  I haven't seen the manual for this pedal, so I can't say if it would be helpful or not to have around when trying to learn how to use this pedal.

    SOUND QUALITY

The sound quality of the Ibanez TS-9DX Turbo Tube Screamer is pretty awesome overall.  If you are looking for that classic tube screamer tone, this is definitely capable of that and then some.  Having the extended array of parameters allows this to be a more versatile pedal than the TS9 and the TS808.  I generally use this pedal for recording and for live shows with a Fender Strat and a '76 Fender Twin Reverb and I'm able to get some pretty awesome tones within this configuration, no matter what application I am using it for.  This is overall a great sounding pedal and if you have ever used a tube screamer, you know what this can do.

    OVERALL OPINION

Overall, while the Ibanez TS-9DX Turbo Tube Screamer isn't my favorite of the tube screamer line of pedals, it is the most versatile and still has a great sound.  It doesn't have as realistic of a sound as the TS9 or the TS808, but this isn't to say that I don't like the sounds, because it is definitely professional sounding enough to be used for live shows or for recording.  The price isnIf you are interested in a tube screamer, definitely check this out along with the other tube screamers to see what will work for your style and wallet!
