This amp is nearly identical to the Valvestate series. I've owned a 15W combo and 100W head for about 10 years so I know them well. I found a great price on the MG so I bought it so I'd have a pair to run with my stereo effects units.

I play all types of music and also own many high end high power amps both tube and SS and have been playing for over 50 years so I'm not a beginner and this is not my first amp. I've used the Valvestate mostly for practicing. I've used it for some small rehearsals and only live once where I miced it up.

These amps can get fairly loud but barely keep up with a live acoustic drummer. The 8" speaker simply cant produce a large enough footprint. Knowing these amps, If I wanted something for live I'd get a 30 or 50W. A 15W tube amp is rated in clean watts and may have an additional 30% driven volume which makes a 15W tube amp louder then a SS amp. These will put out 15W at max volume with no reserve so they are more like a 10W tube amp.

Since I have two now I may be able to gig with them but I'd still likely use a larger amp. I'll use the two of these for recording or small acoustic gigs which I do occasionally.

The MG appears to have the same power amp as the Valvestate and the EQ seems to be about the same. The MG may have a little more treble but it may only be the amp has seen less use and the speaker is in better shape. The MG is also close backed and the Valvestate is open. I can match the EQ tones however so there cant be much difference

The differences are the Valvestate has two gain volumes and a master volume, no channel switching. The MG has a clean channel and a gain/lead channel. They share the same EQ and Effects. When I dial up the cleans they are nearly identical. The driven channel is similar to having the Valvestate gains cranked.

The gain on the MG is all or nothing however. There are no crunch tones on the amp. The gain goes from zero to heavy to overkill. Since I am an electronic tech I may attempt to remedy that problem at some point but its not that important. As I said I run a stereo effects pedal so I'll most likely run the clean channel only. I have plenty of Marshall pedals for drive tones like a Governor and Blues breaker I can use for drive tones as well. The amp does not have a pedal jack for switching channels either so switching channels when playing isn't possible unless you mod the amp and install a jack (which would be fairly simple too) that

The MG does have a couple of other features. Its got a button that emulates tube tone that works fairly well. I have something similar on my Valvestate 100.
The 15W Valvestate has a line out Headphone out and CD/line in. The Line out is not speaker emulated so it doesn't record very well direct.

On the MG they combined the CD in and line out with a toggle switch. The line out is speaker emulated so you can record direct with it - good option many newer amps have. The headphone also disconnects the internal speaker which the Valvestate doesn't, which is kind of dumb.

The Valvestate only has a cheap reverb spring and after 10 years is pretty weak. Again I don't use it much anyway. The MG does have some excellent quality effects built in. You can only run one at a time but they are very usable.

As far as some of the bad reviews I've read, Its obvious the people who bought the amps were either expecting too much from a small amp or simply don't know how to use the Marshall tones these amps produce. I read where many who complained had cheap guitars and hot wound pickups too.

Guitars with Vintage wound pickups are going to sound the best on these amps because you get a wide frequency response from vintage pickups. Hot wound pickups typically have a loss in Highs and lows and boosted mids in a trade off to get a stronger signal. You need an amp with allot of treble boost to make hot wound pickups sound decent and these Marshalls have traditional EQ's so I can see why many beginners got bad tones. They had the wrong guitar for the wrong amp.

With the right guitar these little amps cook. Bright and chippy sounding with typical Marshall tones. Good amp for the money simply don't expect them to be as big and robust as its big brothers.

I bought this amp used off www.instrumentexchange.com for 80 bucks. I got it because, my first amp i had gotten with my guitar(it was a dean markley) was so terrible. I've played for over a year, and I am self taught. I play all kinds of styles from metal to rock to Klezmar to ballads. The amp comes with 4 digital effects, which i describe later in this review. My setup is a Ibanez GRX40 guitar with 1 humbucker and 2 single coils.

I love the distortion. My last amp was an extremely cheap dean markley 9 watt amp. This Marshall made my Ibanez GRX40(btw, a cheap guitar) sound like anything you hear in the studio. The distortion is rich, soulful, and crunchy. Now keep in mind that this is coming from a 160 dollar beginner guitar.

The digital effects are great. The reverb is incredible, the delay is to die for if you set it midway and use it with distortion. The chorus is good. An odd effect is that it really sharpens up the distortion, making it cutting. This can be a good thing or bad thing. If you're playing on the clean channel, it hurts the ears if you play the humbucker, but thats just the guitar. It is like an icepick sound without the chorus, but the chorus makes it more cutting.) However, if you play punk or the such, it is a great effect. If you play on the clean channel with the single coil, it is beautiful. Once again I can get the sound i hear on the radio all the time, even with my cheap single coils. The flange is okay, it doesn't really suit my need. It seems more like a gimmick, but it can sound really cool if the phase rate is set slow. Another great thing about this marshall is the bass. My previous amp had no bass. This Marshall really brings out the low end. It gives out as much bass as my friend's bass amp he plays through. Of course, some do not like the bass heaviness, but thats a matter of preference. This amp gets very loud too. I play it on a quarter of the volume on the distortion channel and 1/3 of the volume on the clean channel. Please note I play this in my bedroom, so it naturally will sound loud.

I do not like the fact that it buzzes at higher gain. It also takes a few seconds after you switch effects for the effects to kick on. I also do not like the fact that you can only have one effect on at any given time. But this IS a practice amp, so i really don't have a complaint.

The amp is built very ruggedly. It seems very tough, with metal knobs, and contruction.

This amp is a great amp, hands down. I have not played crates or peavey amps, but i can say I can see why Marshall is considered top brand. It makes a great 2nd (or first amp) for those who just play as a bedroom hobby, as well as practice amp.

Bottom Line: Incredible amp.

Got this with a Yamaha Pacifica at Hooters, Watford: £299 for the set including other stuff as well, so the amp was probably £70ish if you deduct the rest of the kit (don't expect to get this price unless it's part of a pack).

This is a great amp. It's a really good size - not as small as the 10 watt model (which looks weedy) and about the right size for bedroom practice. I don't know about the sound though - I have turned the volume up to 2 (out of 10) and I don't really want to make it any louder in case I annoy the neighbours. It's pretty damn loud (hopefully)! It's really good having a headphone socket so you can practice silently, and the effects are great (although I don't use them much - this is Marshall's cheapest DFX amp). Overall a great amp, buy it!

The power plug is a bit short so it helps if you have a wall socket nearby or an extension lead. Apart frkom that it's great for the size and price.

It looks really tough and well made and I haven't had any problems.

A great amp, definitely for bedroom practice but it can probably play really loud as well so for any use really.

I bought this amp at The Academy Of Sound in Manchester. The RRP is £109 but i got it for £100.

I've always been told that everyone needs a good practice amp, so thats what i was in the market for. When i saw the amp I couldnt believe it, a Marshall at £100? But I plugged it in and i was impressed by the huige range of sounds I could get from it. With my JEM, I can get sounds from Hendrix all the way to Cacaphony and everything inbetween. It has FDD, which simulates the way valves interact with the speaker, while this is not quite the same as my JCM, its still pretty impressive. The effects are decent, but im not a big effects user anyway. You get reverb, chorus, delay and flange.

Nothing, apart from sometimes setting the delay rate can be tricky and at low volumes the OD channel is slightly fizzy.

You could throw a brick at it and it would still be in one piece. Excellent!

If your looking for a first amp or a better practice amp, at this price it begs to be tested.

I purchased this amp from Guitar Center for $159.99. After purchasing a new Strat, i was in the market for a new amp as my brother bascially commandeered my old peavey. After reading some positive reviews on this and other similar sites, i decided that this was the amp i wanted

Where to start...First off, like all other marshall amps, it just looks good. Clean design. Well placed knobs and inputs/outputs. For only having 15 watts of juice, this amp sure cranks out some decibels. It is definately loud enough for anyone looking for a good practice amp, but it probably isn't suitable for any gigs. The best part of the amp is the Digital Effects. I am yet to buy any effects (pedals, etc.) because i am not sure that they are necessary because i have been able to closely simulate pretty much all songs that i have wanted. It is awesome, and the best bang for you buck!

The only small gripe i have is that there is no master volume, but instead seperate volumes for each channel.

Awesome. Sturdy. Seems like it will last a lifetime.

Anyone who is a beginner/intermediate looking for an amp that will not only be able to rock thier bedroom, but also allow you to immitate the sounds of your favorite songs, this is the way to go. It is also great for more advnaced players looking for a backstage warm-up, or home practive amp. This is the one to get!!

I was looking for a decent sized practise amp to play my new Epiphone les Paul through. I read 1 favourable review of it, and purchased it over the internet, from a shop in Newcastle, UK

This amp is great. Much better than My old MKII G10. Its as loud as you like, and the tone and feel of it is great, typical of marhsall. The Effects are a great bonus, and the Frequency dependant damping makes it sound as though your really using an all valve amp! Its perfect! if you need a practise amp, go buy THIS!

There is nothing i don't like!!

It measures 38cm x 38cm x 18cm. It is a solid unit, with easy to use knobs

The bottom line is, this is a great amp. Its loud, Warm, and versatile. Go get one of your own!!

Purchased this unit online from a well known wholesaler for about $165, including shipping. I wanted a "bedroom" practice amp to play my Epi Les Paul through.

Actually, I like everything about the amp, it's quite a bit more versatile than I expected, and for a small unit, it's louder than hell. With the two channel set-up, clean and crunch, along with the onboard digital effects, I can mimic the sound of almost any guitar, in a song I want to learn.

What's not to like?

The unit appears to be very well constructed, The input jacks all feel solid, the knobs and switches are tight and smooth, all the corners have metal, gloss black caps, attached with brass screws- this toy was made to last.

For anyone who wants a relatively cheap practice amp, that has the versatility to reproduce a wide range of different guitar sounds, and is loud enough to fill a fairly large room- this is the ticket.

Good features: effects utulisables perfectly! especially the reverb, because for the delay, it lacks an adjustable rate of time ... damage (there is on MG50).
The distortion is the most convincing I've heard for less than 200!

This is only 15W, but it gives! I can play 3 / 4 power and support a battery in the studio!

Just a concern really annoying: it vibrates very much! must be regularly tighten around the or he "TZZZ" TZZZ "... I can not stand! (note: it can be as mine ...)

UTILIZATION

Conventional use of an amplifier, the volume knob is not sensitive tros (it's not so common!) Although in distortion, the volume takes off very quickly in the apartment.
I leave the board simulation lamp is not really down constent bluffing, but the amp is warmer and more dynamic.

SOUNDS

It is the marshall ... I am rather ... Fender (magical and clear sound overdrive fine) but it can let off steam in distortion! The sound is clear enough for me.

OVERALL OPINION

It's been a year since I now that I glue a rail end, and I bluff tt the mustaches of the guitar! Even the guys that run the lights! : O)

I repeat and I sign: it has the best combo of distortion of less than 200 I have ever heard!

Too bad I'm a little disappointed with the quality of manufacturing ... Otherwise, it would be 10/10.

Its configuration is simple! Must have when even a little ear for good tater rglage but for beginners this is perfect!
Easily obtained a good sound, a distortion is the button and there is the key effect that simulates a marshall amp lamp which is trs enjoyable!
The manual although not trs payroll DIFFERENT clearly explains the buttons, and with a little help collection's outdoor, we can easily find "the sound"

SOUNDS

It is ideally suited my style of music, the volume is trs lev for 15 watts and keep a good claret! I played with a Cort X2 above and frankly I do not regret the purchase! With this amp, you can get a lot of varied style! But to have a good good metal, I recommend a multi effect pedals or! But for beginners, the RVE: D

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for one week, I'm super happy! This is my first amp and it is with him that I ferrai all my beginners!
There are small children default, but it is just because of its position in my room. His report is qualitprix Excellent!

If you want to buy MG15CDR and you have still a few pennies in my pocket, I recommend the dfx, multi dot is indeed well sympatoche!

UTILIZATION

Easy to use. It includes a manual giving the example of qq as blues, mtal ... Retailer with the explanation for each function. Easily obtained with a good sound qualiseur.
The clean channel sound is not bad but not powerful enough I got (probably this comes from my guitar pickups are not enough cash!)
The sound channel saturated ... bah it's marshall .... Rgler can adjust the volume and overdrive. In contrast, saturated channel sound is more powerful.

SOUNDS

This amp suits me well. I use it for rock, punk ...
I play it with a Squier Affinity Start (Fender Fat Start by few fps) with 2 pedals Distortion BOSS HM-3 and DS-1.
The sound is very well for an amp of this price. Trs good I think for the home.
As concrne effects, they are pa ngligeables, flanger, chorus or reberb are nice to use.

OVERALL OPINION

I bought this amp about 2 months ago. I like the sound of this amp, I am satisfied.
I tried the Roland Cube 15 which is pretty good, 30 better, it also numriques intgre effects, with 30 W ...
Good qualitprix .... It is found to 200

No need to take the lead in finding the right sound, it should still search for it.

SOUNDS

This amp is very Polivalente is an advantage but a disadvantage as being Polivalente, it can not be good at one style of music précis.Le sound is not cold but not hot either, we will not blame it a transistor amp all the same! The multi purpose, though of average quality is excellent for this level of variety is a good point for this amp. The power is to go for a 15W.

OVERALL OPINION

I started on this amp and thanks to its Polivalente found my style (I do ke five months of the guitar) I think keeping it at least another 6-7 months and change to a brand lamps. to start, this amp is excellent and probably the best in its class, it does not ruin by buying it. I do not put 10 because perfection does not exist.

It is a 15 watt amplifier transistors. A clean channel and overdrive channel.
In clean channel, a rglage for the volume.
In overdrive channel, a rglage for volume, a rglage to gain saturation.
An equalizer for bass, and treble mdiums.

4 effects: rverberation, delay, chorus, flanger. Rglage to select an effect and a DSIR rglage to the intensity of the effect.

Finally, a circuit "FDD" that mimics the sound of the amp lamp. It gives more power and depth to the sound.

UTILIZATION

This device is simple to use, but even when asked some time to tame it. Custom settings are simple, but this amp takes time before the well matriser rglages DIFFERENT.

The manual is short, they could have got my dvelopper a little part o rglages they offer.

SOUNDS

It should be my style of music I play rock and hard rock.
I play electric guitar with an Ibanez SA120.

We can get a lot of sounds. I had problem with beginners, because Overdrive channel, the high notes, I found the sound n'tait unsatisfactory. Therefore be patient and take the time to connatre this amplifier.

The sounds I prfre: I like the sound of the overdrive channel, it is less than cetain own amps, but I prfre this sound, I find it more authentic. Among the flanger effect is excellent.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for a month.

What I like most: the sound of the overdrive channel, and flanger.

I tried several MODELS in this price range is certainly one of the best.
The report price is excellent quality, this amplifier rated 160.

I think I do it again the same choice.

UTILIZATION

The configuration is simple architecture (there's not much either ^ ^)
the sound comes out more quickly than through the volume. I do not even know if there is a technical doc, but I do not see what it could be used ... o_O
At home, everyone uses it without me necessarily, and yet everyone comes to do some things ^ ^

SOUNDS

Starting on the fact that it is a 15W amp, you can not expect to have the sound of a JCM 8008 or ...
The irony is that it should not hurt my style ^ ^ Of course, does not break his three-legged duck, but the sound is huge for its size!
I have a C7 Hellraiser, Lag AM1000 an increase in micro and Gibson TJ Mako-2 in Dm, and all manage to make it sound that little maous-strong!
The distortion is very good (and I mean it), the harmonics are out with disconcerting ease (I can almost believe that I can play!), And clear sound is more than nice!
The sound is classic, no particular grain, but is nonetheless effective and powerful.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for the past 4 ½ years, and despite my Laney stack just waiting to talk about the powder, this little 15W works all the time!
Super practical, great sound, light, powerful, all you need for an amp to flat (and may even scare the neighbors ^ ^), in short, a great amp to start!
The value is qu'affolant! Mine has 4 years of tones for hours of play behind him, and it still works great, I've never had a problem with!
My brother used to rehearse with his band, and the amp is much more than the road! It covers a battery to half its volume!
With experience, I do not remake that choice since I have the gear stage and I need some gear for stage and studio, but I direct all young guitarists I know about this one and all are more than satisfied with this amp.
And if mine were to give up the ghost (I hope not), I probably would resume the same forever be apart of an amp and working (for not having to always turn on the lights while 100W ...)

Keep in mind that this amp is perfect for beginners, super reliable, super sound, very reasonable price (rather than taking a Stagg ...)

-Power output of 15watts more than enough to play in his room or in a small place so as not to disturb the neighbors xD!

-Ability to connect a headset (useful when playing at 11pm) and also his CD or MP3 player ....

-Then for the settings, it's really not hard!
A clean channel and 1 channel with gain Disto
3 Contour bass and treble equalizer (although I rather called the Contour middle because it does not really look like the Contour!
4 built-in effects with the possibility to adjust their power: Reverb (classqiue what!), Delay, Flanger and Chorus (the most fun for my taste)!

UTILIZATION

The configuration of this amp is really simple. This gives a sound quite easily though there is not much choice!
Regarding the manual, too lazy to read xD !......

SOUNDS

So this amp, bah is rather hard rock, rock n roll but .... Room!! Me personal I started playing it with an Epiphone G400 SG and frankly it was nice. I'm having good with effects and everything. Now that I have a Gibson I prefer the bigger amps!
With the settings you can get sounds like AC / DC (well quick anyway), but it is quite rough though!
I liked the overdrive channel but be careful not to go too hard on the gain because qe otherwise it saturates, it crackles ... brief is not great. As for the Clean ... to shit! We must mount the amp hard to hear something! Where is the knowledge marshall??

OVERALL OPINION

I use this amp for 2 years is what I like about him is the small distortion which made for travel.
It is not very heavy, quite powerful.
I really do not like the clean, better a good scratch folk or classical in this case!
Frankly, when I acquire, I think too much and took direct Marshall (xD Fame!) But now I use my rather MG100DFX and my JCM900.
For value for money is 10/10! not too expensive and great!
If I were forced to sell my two big amps and take a small 15watts, I will take that live there!
