Peavey Studio Pro Transtube II

Peavey Studio Pro 112 II (Discontinued)Published on 01/20/03 at 15:00
My sister has this amp - I had a Peavey Transtube I - I liked hers so much more I had to have one. I found it on E-Bay and scored it for $140.00 used - normally you'd pay around $275 - to $300 for one new!

This unit is 65 watts - - the next unit down - the Envoy - doesen't have the headroom to jam with a drummer, and the next model up -the Bandit - is a little more substantial than I need for a primarly basement/backstage application.

No one will get it confused with a tremoverb - but then again - show me what other amp in this price range does as credible a job from clean to blues to cruncheroo.

OK - the reverb on this unit will not have Fender Fullerton engineers shaking in their Doc Martens. Nor are your going to keep Jim Marshall awake at night. Having said that - show me what YOUR $300 amp will do (especially of you get it for 140)!

Construction is OK - some screws do come loose on some Peavey's I've had over the years - eg on the reverb tank (did I say tank? - I meant thimble). Other than that they have a nicer feel to them than the teal pre-transtube plastic Peaveys.

Otherwise

IF you want:
1) something loud enough to jam with (or even live un miked - my sis does in smallish clubs)
2) have a limited budget
3) want the most flexibility for the $

then...
you can't go wrong with one of these Transtube II's - the I's were better than some 12AX7-equipped hybrids that I have tried (or owned) and the II's are that much better again.

This equipment is not Mesa/Boogie - but kicks the crap out of everything else in the price range.

If ther was a 4.5 I would give it that.

This is a 65W amp with transistors Transtube technology that mimics the sound of a light amplifier, and is great!
Then:
1Between-High Gain and Low Gain
-Settings for the clean sound volume, low, medium, high, and another o is chosen between the vintage and modern sound
- Settings for the distortion: pregain, low, med, high, post gain, and a knob to choose between the vintage sound, modern and a mix of both!
-Finally, tuning the reverb and dynamics of t, t dynamics is put potatoes in the same if you play low volume!

You can put a foot switch, there is an effects loop (where I connect all my pedals), and another taken to put the speakers.

Too bad there is no chorus on this amp but it is not a necessary JC aps rever ^ ^

UTILIZATION

The config is super simple, Yen who will say that the lack of volume gnral is a default, but not at all! lets put a distortion at the same volume as the clear sound or even lower
-In the manual, there are 3 settings: Metal, disto Modra and crunchy blues
For my part I am a mix between the disto Modra and bluesy sound.
Otherwise I could find the settings alone!
I have not the peavey footswitch so I do not know what acts footswitch. (EDIT: it acts on the reverb, so it's not very useful)
I just opened the manual for some adjustments, so very easy to use and knobs are not super sensitive like the line 6 spider 112 (the I not II)

SOUNDS

-I play the alternator and the garage, it's all good! just make a few adjustments and it is top
-I play with my Squier Affinity (RX200 and my edit) and even if the guitar is not great, I like the sound with lots of reverb! I tried the amp in the store on a Cort M800, I have yet to test the amp when you put the bottom, but this amp pte! in Volume 2 we get already a good big sound!

Edit: my ear is growing and I now find that the sound distortion is very sharp mtal, lacks some precision on the other hand.
The clean sound is pretty cool in vintage but a little fat in modern.
It may be just the bridge pickup of my RX200 but when you attack too hard, the amplifier saturates chtit a little!

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for almost a year
The simulation of the lamps is super well done! but I can not compare that of Marshall ...
Before aqurir this lil amp, I hesitated between the Line 6 Spider II 112 and that the so ... He had no line 6 in the store so I took it: D
For 340euros (list price) is a good big sound, I use it for group play and I can tell you that mentend! then result jsuis have to turn down the volume ...
on the other hand, there is a lil rub on the finish: yavait a lil thing that evil silent fix but no big deal and I refix problemmes are over! But you'll be surprised by looking inside the bte ... the transformer is retained using cardboard ... weird (but I achtet new!)
It's a Peavey so he must love the highs, and I jaime!
My next amp will probably be one version but the muscle!
EDIT: The reverb buzz a lil bit ... but it's not a problem when the volume rises

Off topic: I say a little (or big) FUCK Distri music who say they will soon get the Spider II 112 ... Then I called .... and I wonder if he will soon receive it and they tell me "yes, we will have it next week" then ok, I reminds the next week, and the same! I called them at least 3x and always the same answer ... result, I am all Meaux, music studio, a great store with friendly sellers!

Technical specifications for any given t is higher.

Regarding the effect of Transtube lamp is just average but good perspective as we must for this award should not ask for the moon either.

I want a report of the same as this amp is rsistant and was not afraid to stroll.

UTILIZATION

The use is very simple and intuitive. For an amp This category is gualiseur putting two more frankly. The latter is rather ffective.

For my part I use this amp for train home. It does not dlivre enough power, the battery will tend to completely cover the sound of the amp a month to really push it ... And the sound is really horrible! At least not to be difficult.

I will put seven, the only condition to use it just to train ... Otherwise it would be a 4 ...

SOUNDS

It was then that complicates everything ... The lack of roundness and warmth (though I play with Gibson SG standard that has its origin in a fairly hot)! You do not get the right sound you would with lamps. The sound is flat and cold, and more as mentioned above ds that we push some serious volume disparraissent more apparatre to the final sound shrill.

The only way I found rattraprt everything is plug it in my PDAL Cooltron Vox Bulldog distortion (which has a lamp), and this time the sound is actually correct ...

OVERALL OPINION

I will put seven, I think it's an amp with a good supply qualitprix, and with good rsistant CHARACTERISTICS ... By ca rest against a transistor amp, do not make illusions.

I would recommend for beginners and for work at home (h neighbors must think so)! As against a mind for use in a group, nothing beats a good head amp with these speakers. I use an Engl Powerball to work with my group and it is not comparable, let's be clear.

As cit below is a small 65W amp transistors with a HP 12-inch "Blue Marvel", very practical for personal work and for RPTES (I not grow above of 5 / 10 by volume), it possde two guitar input (low and high impdance for passive and active guitars), a switchable effects loop, footswitch socket for an optional, output to an external speaker and a headphone output (useful for work at night).
Rglages level, we have a 3 band equalizer (low, med and high) on each channel and a rverbe and rglage effect "Transtube" (tube emulation) common to both channels . It has a connection and complete enough rglages overall, allowing a wide range (it lacks a mixer output with adjustable volume for recording studio).
The optional footswitch allows channel change (you have to sue the receiver for the Lead channel footswitch that works) only.

UTILIZATION

Trs simple approach, there is no need to be guided to a manual is all alone, there are enough rapidemment DSIR sound even if the pots should be turned frankly a Difference for low volume (so I advise to put about 3 by volume for the grate well rglages).

SOUNDS

It is here that the reputable played an amp, I use it for the past three years in work and personal RPET and I think to keep still for a while, so this amp m well rite of the reputable TransTube!
I play mainly on the lead channel (large rock, mo, mtal of all kinds) with a Fernandes Ravelle (passive pickups high output all of the same) and the disto trs is beautiful, that be low as high volume. The amp is the rgl fawn follows: disto type "Modern" with the win 8-9, 6-7 bass, mdiums of 4 and 5 AIGS, low volume is close to the Rectifiers very serious and compression (it is not exactly of the Mesa-Boogie, we are not in the same price range either) and high-volume, serious s'attnuent a bit and we get a good distortion trs Hughes and Kettner like Vortex or Randall RH100. Textures "Vintage" and "High Gain" are close, respectively, the Led Zep 'and The Darkness, I almost never use them except to train but I think they can convince high volume.
For the clean channel, nothing REALLY transcendent texture "Vintage" is hotter than the "Modern" but I use plutt dernire I like this well (I add a delay and the opportunity a chorus to swell a little).
I always put a bit of rverbe (1-2) to magnify the sound, clean as Lead and poses no problem, no buzz or some musical strains but I can not really say objectively it is music or not, may be a little cold.
The simulation "Transtube" is still growing 9 because it really brings a gain of heat as in Clean Lead.

For résumé, this amp sounds good dlivre whether as Lead Clean and I am happy trs. The only problem is the loss of serious distortion in high volume but it's all common amplifiers and it is not pathological REALLY!
The HP rpond trs much any type of stress, particularly to large heavy palm mute, cash it perfectly, nothing wrong.

OVERALL OPINION

A friend bought 3 years ago, I am always happy trs and I use it every week because it is powerful enough to rpter, small enough to fit in my small trunk trs and offers good sound for trs not look like a fool with friends!
Small default: the grip screws and jacks that take a bit of play (a screwed back easily but will have to do, takes a 10 minutes) and especially, the footswitch buy more, these bxs small practices are so vicious that it is not to offer it with the amp (it's a sales policy but it is certainly harmful!).
It has an amp with a good value trs qualitprix and I Rasht eyes closed if I am proposed for work and personal RPTES. I put my 8 / 10 because of the footswitch option, otherwise, no complaints of reliability.
