SOUND QUALITY

I wanted to try it to see if there was a difference with the pre amp I was using (ULTRAGAIN, 100 and 200 mic and a tube TubePre art)
I find it very clean, it's weird there is a button to adjust the way and no master. otherwise, it's simple, it works well and it's true no breath. on the other hand I can say that contrary to what I have or I have to put a studio microphone gain in three quarts to have enough volume.

OVERALL OPINION

I find good is that it has two inputs that can be run simultaneously. I bought it secondhand, but 40 euros for the same price you can also purchase a Behringer ULTRAGAIN PRO with 2200 mic as two simultaneous inputs and I confess that for the voice I prefer. According to the tastes, colors ...
if not what is good is that it is very small and portable, solid and well made.
I do not buy another.

Pre-amp analog inputs simultaneously managing two, via jacks (front) or XLR (rear). 48V Phantom power supply. Off button on the front. And 2 output jacks on the back.
The box is small, rather light and robust. Ditto for the knobs that are not especially fragile. After almost two years of use, no sign of fatigue. I do not mistreat and I moved recently, but unless you drop it, I do not see why it swallowed up by itself. Photo available here shows a brown box, mine are silver.

UTILIZATION

The general configuration is it simple?
Any difficulty using this machine ... One branch, you set the knob and that's it.

SOUND QUALITY

The sound of my instruments (electric guitars and electro-acoustic) and microphones (Shure SM57 and SM58, Rode NT5 pair) is reproduced without breath but at maximum volume and yet it really depends on what branch there, which I suggests that the intrinsic quality of Buddy is not at issue. If the volume of the guitar plugged in is too strong, the breath is actually present, even worse if we interposed an effects pedal, but a guitar plugged into a reasonable volume produces no breath.

As for microphones, no worries. Dynamic or static (ie with phantom power supply connected), my microphone correctly record sources.

It is better to ensure the quality of their cables as they can also cause noise and crackling very unpleasant.

Adding to my previous opinion (a year ago): after almost two years of use, I notice that the sound that passes through the Audio Buddy is perhaps a bit dull. No wonder then, but it is not dramatic, especially for less than 100 euros.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it since late 2005. What I like most is its neutrality and lack of breath. It was my first pre-amp so I could hardly make a comparison. I know now found much better ... for much more! Findable less than 100 euros, it offers a quality rather than correct at this price. I actually bought a second Audio Buddy, I'm satisfied, but the initial enthusiasm gave way to reason: I did this because I can not afford to buy a preamp tube of very good quality and I am happy. But I feel a little frustration. That said, I do not spit in the soup and frankly, these little creatures are effective, but in an amateur home studio any more.
