    Jackson PS4 DinkyPublished on 06/17/07 at 14:09
(This content has been automatically translated from French)
    Guitar made in Japan
    24 Jumbo frets
3 pickups stamped "Jackson" configuration: MSM
    Alder body
    Bolt-on maple
    Rosewood
    Volume 1 knob
    1 knob tone
    A 5-way switch
    Licensed Floyd Rose tremolo

    UTILIZATION

This guitar is attractive in many ways: its look is already attractive (reverse head, elegant forms ...), its full features (24 cases, Floyd Rose, HSH pickups for versatility, etc.)..
Once in her hands, she is also very comfortable! I was very surprised on my first test in the store, the guitar is balanced, the body fits well with its cuts, the handle is very fast and very fine (the fact that it is not easy varnished moving the left hand) ... I bought it the day ;-)

But appearances are deceptive, I quickly realized the shortcomings of this model :-(
On the one hand, the system of screwing the rod vibrato is really ill-conceived, there is a game that is very inconvenient because the stem has a tendency to wander.
On the other hand, I noticed that the high E string was located very close to the edge of the handle, this singularity is that the bridge is not properly positioned. Indeed, it is not perpendicular to the axis of the handle. This gently sloping bridge poses many problems: notes that verge, difficulty in tuning the guitar to adjust the difficulties and problems of vibrato detuning during use.

    SOUNDS

With its original pickups, the guitar sounds good! Special mention to the bridge pickup with its sounds brilliant and incisive. I also like the roundness of the body and neck pickup that I use mainly for arpeggios. The micro simple, when with him, is difficult to use because its output level is too low, it is nevertheless a small effect in the rhythmic funk.
In the store, the "bright" sound of the PS4 seemed much more attractive than Ibanez in the same price range (at the time: approximately € 500) is in fact what that justified my choice.
If I remember correctly, the microphones that equipped the Ibanez in question were "Ibanez Infinity".

In hindsight, I can still put a caveat: the pots tend to "sputter" and for not all: there is a slight wind that always means (not great when recording). I could compare it with an Epiphone which, under the same conditions, does not generate a breath. In short, I have serious doubts about the quality of electronics performance.

    OVERALL OPINION

I use it for over 6 years and it gave me time to tour the qualities and defects of the Jackson Performer 4.
For this price, the qualities of the instruments are respectable, I mean especially pleased that we have to play the instrument. But I found three defects very painful to me damn "cool" in my assessment.
The system of screwing the vibrato is not so good can be repaired by tinkering a bit, breath generated by the microphones (or electronics, I did not know too much :-| can be mitigated by a noise gate but cons, I really had a hard time to fix the problem of the bridge out of position ... a board so if you encounter this problem, do not hesitate to go for a ride in a maker ;-)
Given the problems, I do not think I would do this choice!
