Not a bad pick up

Vox AC50CP2Published on 06/08/11 at 14:35
For the price of this amp it is not a bad pickup. The ting that bugs me is the front control panel is actually on the front of the amp rather that the classic Vox style where it is on top of the amp. This really bugs me but not enough to care too much about the overall feeling of the amp.

SOUNDS

This things has two channels, one for the clean and one for the classic Vox/British style overdrive. I wouldn't really call it distortion but more of an overdriven power tube kind of grind. It certainly is distortion but not anything from the preamp kind of distortion like a newer Marshall or Mesa Boogie.

This guitar like the clean chimey type guitar so a nice Fender Stratocaster or maybe a Rickenbacker 360. These guitars don't produce a very high output as far as pickups and so it compliments the Vox tone very nicely.

OVERALL OPINION

Vox has now discontinued these amps and so the used market is the only way to go. I think you can find them for around $400 or so. They aren't a bad pickup for the price. I would recommend anyone who likes the Vox tone and doens't want to shell out a tone of cash for an AC30 would be better off picking up one of these amps.

Here for describing hardware, not to mention the weight: about thirty pounds when same! Fortunately there are grips ....

UTILIZATION

Ct configuration ...
This is an all-tube amp, classic what!
So no magic button to get the legendary sound of Hendrix or the last bullet hole fashion.
It should use its ears or those of others, or at worst observe their heads ...!? :-))
The manual is good, you read it once to see if it's as simple as you think.
Personally, I first branch amplifier ....

I use this amp with two guitars (Lespaul / Burstbuckers pro BluesHawk/P90).

Ct power ... poustouflant!
The 50 watts are usable clean sound.
The knob "master volume" can tame a bte permissible levels depending on the situation.

Ct is the Vox sound ...
Deep bass, the mdium hot treble Defines, crystalline.
Dynamics is available trs impressive.
In addition, trs rglages really effective, a little confusing because an act on the other, historic home Vox.

Channel 1 ct ...
"Typquot, AC30, which takes the Top Boost circuit.
We start from clean sounds to a typical distortion typical hot too, but it's beautiful!
The acute (and there!) Are Grable via the "cut tone."

Channel 2 Ct ...
This channel sounds more "medium",
less crystalline than one channel but rglages are just as effective.
East distortion, even when we can get clean sounds.
Going up the volume knob, it starts to rev quickly have the distortion.
In addition, the switch "fat" to switch position "excessive distortion" in less than two.
(I personally prfre one pedals, it's easier)
But if your basic sound is the Get You Started for you.
The switch "bright" change curve rponse by mounting mdium / treble.
Its action is less effective in raising the level of "volume"
The manual can serve as a "dgraisser" the sound of humbuckers.

Overall ...
The range of its available is wide, trs broad possibilities.
The clean sounds are wonderful.
Benefitted the distortion of the dynamics of the standard amp and you can take full advantages of the amp:
pr-gain, post gain and "master volume" (into a corner, watch out! dcoiffe noise!)
You really have to be diffi not find the right setting,
whether from the sounds clear and transparent until the distortion much fat (even dgueu).

Ct reverb ...
Nice surprise! Trs correct and even pretty.
Used to average.

Effects loop ...
I did not color the sound not using it.
slecteur the bypass is welcome, this is not the absence of jack that makes the cut ...

Output direct ...
Indpendant level of the amplifier and adjustable by knob.
fun to catch but you have to either rework the sound.
Made for real use a microphone ... (Better: several!)

SOUNDS

Used in groups (drums + bass + guitar 2 song, rock "classic" From Beatles to Led Zep through the Stones, Purple, etc, etc ...)

Unanimously musicians of the group is better than my Marshall before!
The sound is more "Submitted", less aggressive,
Moreover, even I can play louder without feedback dsobligeantes ...
Sharper than the Marshall rglage to find (but also more possibilities).
A small action on the knobs gnre real change in the sound.
I Reserved a channel for rhythm and one with a higher level for interventions and solos.
The Vox versatile, beautiful and well Dfine, hot passes "in front".
The distos are "pretty", and original.
Its typical lgrement that allows you to dmarquer in the hubbub (!) Instruments of friends ...
My Lespaul found the versatility of the sounds with clear crystal ct.
My team of guitar single coil is really enhanced.

OVERALL OPINION

I bought this amp in 2007 for 1300 Euros Dc in a store from my prs (http: \ \ www.musicstock.com)
I was looking for an amp like "vintage" two-channel without diodes or transistors crtage. (Fed up with my Marshall JCM900 and his bote disto integrated!)
J'hsitais between Vox and Peavey Classic 50 rput versatile and "vintage".
The Vox rcent quite as difficult to find advice, even on the Net!
The only information I could find came from the site "black box", two test stands quite well done.
But no way to try before, because I have not found one store that ale in stock!
I ended up buying it without trying it, telling me that I would see if Vox MRIT its legends,
that pretty much j'tais FBRIL when I brought the house!
To date, I have found nothing that would make me regret this purchase.
The ventail trs is wide and that's what I was looking for.

Ct quality finishes, just the plastic grips that should be flexible and ultimately are hard ...
Something more class would have t saw.
A tool for the purists, ALL the VOX amps are now manufactured ..... China
"Led by the Office of English Studies" according to Vox.
This does not shock me, knowing that all the lights that "sound" are manufactured in countries "low cost",
and much of the high-tech products and brands.
on the other hand, you always wonder if you pay the right price ... !?

RVision May 2008:
I still do not regret it!
