MARSHALL JCM900 4100 100W head + cabinet 1960A
I have owned this Marchall for 2 / 3 years since I revndu recently. It cost me nine-9600F (€ 1450) (if I remember correctly) head + cabinet.

The head is equipped with four Sovtek 5881 (model military 6L6GC) for a power of 100W and 3 ECC83 Marshall brand. There is only one EQ (It is a shame): Bass, mid, treble and presence.
Gain, volume and reverb level for each channel (that's good). There are two channels (light / full). The channel change is accessed by a push on the head or via a footswitch (supplied with the unit) which controls also the setting off / on the reverb (that's good too).
The effects loop with adjustable level is good. Output preamp out can use the preamp output signal power on another section. As against the release compensed Record is supposed to be a simulation output with HP, is not widely used mainly saturated (its very sharp without dynamics (transistor type): no!).
There are two speaker outputs for connecting two cabinets with selection of the output impedance.

UTILIZATION

It is easy to use in general, there is the impedance switch which is not very clear (values ​​in brackets?)
One 2-channel EQ is not great, you have to make compromises ...

SOUNDS

In his clear, the sound is round, warm enough with a lot of medium (as is everything marshall), and is clean enough to ford same volume (if one does not grow too much gain). But it's still even less than a nickel Fender Twin amp. It's like RED HOT fairly powerful. If you push the gain on that channel are obtained Crunch sounds good. Too bad the EQ is not more efficient (but again it's a habit marshall). The spring reverb (Accutronics) blends well with the sound (if you stay sober with the level) and gives a prodondeur little.
Boosted channel gives sounds of rock blues to Hendrix (with the gain in the first half) to Rage against the machine (with the gain at the bottom) through AC / DC. It's not saturate very very strong and very medium, low and no bcp potato. Especially as the EQ is not more effective than the channel clear. If you like this kind of sound is the amp for you if ... check out the competition. This channel has a very distinctive sound. If you play metal, hardcore, or death, c not an amp for you! even for the progressive metal limit c! unless you add a distortion pedal for.
Even at high volume, blah!

OVERALL OPINION

I used this amp 2 / 3 years. I sold and I do not want to marshall equipment.
When I think they call the head JCM900 HI GAIN.
THIS IS NOT THE HI GAIN! just listen to a peavey 5150 (and many others) to understand. I find that even Valvestate saturate more!

I definitely would not recommend this head (except for the lovers of the marshall).
on the other hand, there are ways to find the cheap to OCCAZ.

I will always remember the very first time I test this amp !!!!! the day before, I had tried all day long a Soldano SLO 100 head in 1990. The next day I find myself with the JCM 900 hands: I immediately thought that the amp had one or two lamps qt ... and no, it sounds like a natural at: its a pretty feeble inintressant, I then open to see a little piti cabling I advise you not to do !!!!!! otherwise, you will ask this question every day at JCM 900: will you walk aujourdh'ui?
