The good thing about the original Mbox is that you can still buy it online now and get it for really cheap since they have came out with the Mbox 2 many years ago. It seems like when they came out with the Mbox 2 everyone got rid of the original Mbox which made the price of it go way down. But its still a great interface and I still use it from time to time. I came remember which pro tools that it came with but I have upgraded pro tools so many times it still continues to work. Even when used in cubase and fl studio you can just use it in about any type of daw that you use.


UTILIZATION

Drivers are very stable and everything works great with it, it plugs into my laptop with a USB chord just like the Mbox 2, difference is that the MBOX2 is more of a hassle and cost over twice as much. If you are thinking of getting the Mbox 2 I say you downgrade and save yourself a couple hundred dollars and get the original Mbox and just get a newer version of pro tools and you will save money and be happier in the end.


GETTING STARTED

Setting it up is very easy and is hassle free. There are no issues when running it at all and its very sturdy and wont break on you. I even pack mine up and take it with me a lot of places, I am actually on my second one because the first one got misplaced when I was on a trip, I think I just left in a hotel in the middle of Oklahoma somewhere. This is a very simple interface that can take on some complex jobs I highly recommend it especially with the price that they sell for online now is so low.


OVERALL OPINION

It’s a great interface and I stand by it. Like I said im on my second one and I will get another if I need to. Why not, they cost so little and provide such great quality.

Frankly, the M Box is the best way to get Pro Tools on XP for not too expensive .... around 500.
In addition, it is team of pr-amp Focusrite, which gives it its value.
Otherwise, it is also THE FIRST card digidesign dmonstration that I see on a PC with XP, which is fairly thundering from Digidesign.
It is on that one is faster rev limit and that you want to rev quickly switch to the Digi 002 (very good map which is also a control surface).

Finally, the main default is that the USB connection is reliable and not rev my gard .... contairement the digi 002 in FireWire! (C qd mm but 2000).

I bought it was late to work with me on pro tools sessions recorded in the studio ... The value for money has convinced me ...
I use a Power PC G5 dual processor 1.8 GHz Apple (MAC OS X )....
This is the first time I met any problems with MIDI sync my MPC 3000 ... The M box does not work when plugged into my USB hub BELKIN ... I absolutely connect it to a USB my Mac ...

Noted that the version of Reason comes with the m box demos are inadequate for serious work ...
You can not create multiple tracks of the same plug, you will find a full version of Reason. IMPORTANT REASON has no real interest without RECYCLE!

OVERALL OPINION

I use at home to make arrangements for sessions recorded on other Pro Tools more efficient ... The return of the transfer is largely satisfactory ...
As against the physical mixing amateurs are quickly lost ... They are just a stereo output meters on the Box is a shame!
I think it really sucks that digidesign does not sell out for an extension of a traditional mix ...
Since I am very conscientious about the mix, it is difficult to envisage a final mix at home except on prods minimal electro ...

I do not use it with ProTools is an insolent instability (unwanted crash) ... I certainly runs on PCs with an AMD proc, but they sell the product cheap enough to be compatible everywhere!
Otherwise, runs without a problem with Cubase ... Live in studio as well, the foot ...

I have been using for over a year and I love its convenience, and ergonomic portable ...
For cons, the PTLE that comes with is a real calami SETUP WITH MY ...
I am generally satisfied ...

Many connectivity make this an Mbox interface and convenient for small rec Live or in situ.

Installation is very easy, using the app is also very simple, apart from the south which is always a little fishing.

Big flaw of the Mbox which I hope has been fixed on the v2 patch that connects the two headphone outputs in standard-cut. Indeed, when a jack is inserted into a catch, it automatically switches to send the 2 nd. What is not at all useful when REC is live in with the engineer next to the musician or in a neighboring epièce (when not listening to any two headphones, the ocurrences, so it's impossible). So why have placed two headphone outputs so one can only be used simultaneously??
I pulled the info from Digidesign who mentioned an increase of production cost. They said it was too expensive minimum of Palca 2 preamp outputs on to offset the famous - 6 dB and therefore it would greatly increase the cost of the machine. When you see the price of the current. We hope they address this problem. In any case, they have built in MIDI fina.

OVERALL OPINION

This remains a very good value for money machine. I expect to see any improvements made on the v2 on the issues raised on the 1st version to see if I will change or not.

Strong points: compatibility with studios all over, editing, Weak Points: Only 32 tracks, which should be plenty for most, but is a small amount compared to other DAWS. No off-line mixdown (bounce)...gotta do it in real-time. Many effects require stopping playback before plug-ins can be added.

USB audio interfaces just don't handle as much as firewire/PCI interfaces. I can use many more plug-ins in other DAWS.

It seems very sturdy, like it would handle the portable situations that it seems intended for. Many engineers use these away from thier TDM set-ups.

OVERALL OPINION

Sound Quality: Good for a $400.00 unit, espeically with this many features (2 preamps w/fantom power, software w/effects, editing, etc.). If you are skilled at mixing, the MBox sound will not get in your way.

I like it quite a bit, but quite frankly, this is "settling" until an upgrade to Digi 002 or TDM.

I like ProTools interface for a few reasons. the main reason is because their is SO much information available on their software and tutorials it is easy to find out what you need to know if this is your first attempt at making music. at first i hated the fact that their isn't a right click context menu in the application but once i got use to using the keyboard it is so much faster then i use to be with Nuendo. you can even buy stickers that fit the top of your keys exactly and show you the keyboard shortcuts for like $10 so it isn't hard to lean to use the interface at all. my main problem with the PT LE software is you get a ton of demo RTAS plugins with the software and the damn things have no uninstall file and they do not show up under ADD/REMOVE program their is a section of the DUC (digidesigns forums) that shows you what files to remove from the program directory to get rid of the demos but it didn't work for me. PT also takes a long time to load and i hate that. also, the real time export is a pain. sometimes you just want to bounce it as fast as your system can process the files like other applications offer especially if you just had to go and make one small change and you do NOT need to listen to the whole track. To import MP3's to use in your project you need a plugin that is like $300 or more. and don't think you are going to be doing audio for video via timecode because the DV kit plugin that provides this ability is like $1,000! OMF import is also a plugin that costs hundreds of dollars so unless you got the money to drop dont expect a simple transition of all your old projects into PT (most decent application support OMF out the box and i heard that digidesign actually created this format).

The box feels sturdy, the usb plug in the back is a little weak if you ask me i bent mine an my cable doesnt sit in their correctly anymore and will disconnect from time to time. PT is one of the most unstable applications i have ever used also. it doesnt lock and freeze on me but it just is so damn picky about the system it is being ran on. make sure that you check that your system will run PT software before you make your purchase.

OVERALL OPINION

Considering the price the sound quality definitely acceptable.

honestly i have not used other mobile products like this one so i cannot compare it to another products preamps, converters, and final sound. but i can tell you that i have made some music that sounds a lot better then what i expected with this device and a $100 mic. i am not mad that i got this because i have not used anything else and this is allowing me to make music better then i expected to be able to at this price point but i hear their is more for less out their. my biggest issues are with the software and you can always use the MBox hardware with any other software so if you do find yourself in a position where some of the things that digidesign wants to charge you hundreds extra for you need to use you could just buy cubase or any other application for a fraction of the cost of the DV kit that has all of the necessary features to run with the MBox and be all good.

If your familiar with DAW's you can use this right outta the box.Again it's a good piece, not great but good. It could use some firewire support to solve the latency problems.

Pretty solid piece. I have yet to drop it, nor do I want to, however the fit and finish is nice.

OVERALL OPINION

Pretty good sound quality.

I don't love the M-Box. Let's just say I in deep like with my M-Box. It was cheap (price),and it allows me to get the job done.
