The price and curiosity have motivated this small purchase.
I wanted to try it to see if I could trust a portable USB audio interface.
If you already read in mavez FURTHER tests, you know that I adore Macs and I dteste the windows products!
Jessaye this product, so I plug everything that passes me by the hand. Currently I am trying dessayer my irons and walking, except that my pants hole but short, this is not important !!
Therefore, for this section, I put a 10 (ten points!)

USE

Accustomed to Firewire's weird to connect a USB audio interface, but, really, then really !!!!!!!! no problem !!
The manual is in English, aim, you know, you dont need to read it, as the machine works really alone !!
So I put the rating of 10 because RAS

IMPLEMENTATION

Puisquon is in langlais, "If it works, which fix it". The drivers work perfectly, so no need dactu !!
Logic no problem to report, the latencies are extremely low, almost zero.
I havent counted the number of tracks, but can cash bcane not bad.

A simple card but quality and compatible linux!
It allows me to record the actual voice and audio outputs are also great, and are used to connect the computer to the sound of a good chain or directly to powered speakers thanks to balanced jack outputs.

I bought it today (2009 06 06) (do not worry, I would of MAJ.

CHOOSING: j'hsitait two USB soundcards: the EDIROL UA-25EX and a alesis.
Finally, advice from an APRS user warning and some web search, I bought the edirol (shame: the included Cubase LE Alesis: I dj sonar).
The CHARACTERISTICS that led this purchase are: SETTING THE SENSITIVITY acquisition, taken Neutrix (jack and XLR) balanced with phantom power, output as unbalanced and balanced also in the limiter adjustable in between, and all the little extras that will surely: the input / output optics (see my device, it will), the MIDI I / O, and all other hardware rglages asser cool.

Primary use: recording, especially balanced: connected on a plate or mixing / routing, either directly on two AKG microphones with phantom power.

the configuration where I tested the sound card is an old PC ultraportable Sony Vaio 900MHz with XP, ASIO4ALL drivers, the driver 1.0.0 on the site of edirol and SoundForge 8d for recording. I dj optimized XP, so I think even without, has not run badly at the moment (in 44.1khz, 24bit).

UTILIZATION

-There is no problem to install (Obviously I did install the drivers BEFORE connecting the sound card).
-Level incompatibilities, a priori, SoundForge works perfectly with a 900Mhz processor and 512MB of RAM.
-At the gnrale configuration: it is very simple (can be a bit too simple), just a tab in the Control Panel.
-Finally, the manual is clear and trs by reading diagonally you understand everything (just read some English), otherwise there is nothing wrong.

-: I have AIM can connect an external power supply to alleviate the computer (but it works perfectly, so ... a will.)
other -: when it is used in 96KHz, you can not use it in Simultaneous recording and playback, and change, it must unplug the USB (I have not tried Unplug without), but hey, as for burning to CD, it's 44.1 KHZ, I use the 24bit prfre RESOLUTION in order to normalize the vertical recording and releasing a WAV PCM .

OVERALL OPINION

- I recently acquired, I use it every day for 1 week
- I tried two models M AUDIO (FireWire 410 and Delta 2496) but this was not what I sought (primarily for connection that was not USB)
- What I like most, its portability, ruggedness, sound quality, not heating, but above all, his MINIMME LATENCY! I feel almost no difference with the m audio firewire 410 (4ms). In addition, it is very cheap compared to what I see elsewhere!
- With the experience? Without hesitation, if she ever leaves me, I'll buy!

Audio interface with:
-USB 1.1 jack for power
- 2 XLR / TRS jack with preamp and phantom power +48 V There is a button Hi-Z input 2 for ability to connect directly to high impedance instrument (guitar or bass for example).
- Stereo output format or RCA jack line level.
Includes a compressor-limiter. There is a switch behind that lets you choose the type of compression you want (there are 4) and a button to switch to change the threshold (Threshold). There's not much of a real knob compressor, and makes it not very flexible but can always use the limiter (it is always better than to saturate when operating in digital).
-A switch behind the boiboite to choose between sampling 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 96kHz and 96kHz for recording and to read (this interface does not work in full duplex at 96kHz, USB 1.1 required).

On the packing box, there is writing "Direct Box function for a pure sound on stage." I do not see how it can serve as a direct box and I can not use it either to a box used to convert a line level signal via the output jack.

In terms of software it came with Cakewalk Production Pack which includes:
A small software-computer music Sonar 8.5 LE that I find ugly (but who cares) and not very practical.
-Virtual instruments such as Cakewalk sound center that is a sound bank, Rapture LE, which is a synth and Instrument Drum Studio is a virtual battery.

I can not run Cakewalk Sound Center and a general way, I think all software of this pack and less interesting than those you can find in the competition for this price range in audio interfaces . But I think the hardware really not bad, I'm going to 7 / 10.

UTILIZATION

I plug this interface in a micro broadband capacitor (T-bone SC400), a dynamic microphone (the SM57), and sometimes my guitar into the input 2 with Hi-Z button down (it was mainly to test ). The buttons load the gain (called "SENS" on this interface) never miss the race. I also branch cables MIDI input and output and everything works fine.

I plug in a small notebook HP Pavilion dv6 with T4200 processor (2 core running at 2GHz) and 3 GB of RAM. I'm using software version 3.66 REAPER is deemed not to overload the PC.
I was trying to run that in 44.1 but I know that if you want to change the sampling frequency, you must disconnect the USB, change the frequency switch and reconnected.
I have for now is no stability problem except with the Cakewalk sound center that I was doing at the same time buger REAPER and audio interface. The driver is at version 1.0.0 and allows to choose between greater stability and low latency without any indication from the size of the buffer used. With the default setting (size of the buffer to 288 samples), I managed to register with the headphones and three audio track 2 track MIDI no effect (aside the virtual instrument for MIDI tracks) with a latency imperceptible to me. After adding a dozen large effect, the sound card does not crack or hardly at all cases (cons level latency, no longer even tried). The UA-25EX and introduces no noise preamps are of good quality for me who do not know anything.

In terms of ergonomics, the metal case feels solid, the buttons a little less but it can go. The many buttons on the back are not very practical for this size but I think we can not do otherwise. I just find it unfortunate that the level of the headphones and stereo output is set by the same knob (it's not practical and it forces me to turn my amp that is out all the time).
I'm going to put 9 / 10 because in this price range is very good anyway.

GETTING STARTED

The instalation of the driver is no problem. The driver that is on a CD and does not take much more than a minute. With a PC running on Windows 7, with REAPER version 3.66, everything works perfectly. The driver's window adjustment may be missing an estimate of latency. The manual contains 58 pages that gives me one approter some precision on the compressor and all the "live monitor". But it is in English. "For those who are upset with the language of Shakespeare", the same manual is in French in PDF format on one of the 2 CDs.

The software "Cakewalk Production Plus Pack" were also easy to install. There's just the sound Cakewalk Center who want to walk in any way with me and makes me all buger (if anyone can help me for that matter). I'll put 8 for this (I want to get too much either).



OVERALL OPINION

I must say that I write this review while I use it for some days only and that I had not before any other audio interface.
This one seems to be an excellent choice when one wants to get into the home studio wanting to start small. She will preamp, compressor / limiter, sound card and midi interface without introducing noise. It can even sampling at 96kHz if you like and y 'is not much for this price (although I see myself not too much interest on the other hand) and in addition it has a good mouth. Afterwards, it's true I find the offer of software rather bof: he had put the fact that house.
I find quite good value for money. I is not writing this review with experience but I do not regret buying me time.

I chose to replace my lexicon alpha. I used to record my songs I do on mpc on a laptop Acer rotten but still running.

UTILIZATION

drivers are very stable ... for now ... but RAS is the 2nd Edirol I have and I've never has been worrying about drivers!

uses sonar with X1 (better than cubase for x64 with ....) and sometimes with cubase 5.5, which is my sequencer of choice ... but the engine is only 32bit.

latency 48kh/24b = 6.8m .... works well (I do not use 96khz)

qq weeks that I'm using it but it is not my first map so I do not need any longer for me to review!
I've ordered a novation Nio 2 / 4 but could not make it work properly (x64 is not officially supported) the sudden I'm back home edirol / cakewalk so I've had in almost 15 years of computer music, almost has never complain!
the sound quality of the converters is satisfactory, as the comp / limiter which is rather good job ... it's no frills but it works correctly.

4 RCA outputs and 2 headphone jacks make this card perfect for me, but it is still pretty strong and stable so from my point of view the price / performance ratio is satisfactory.
From the perspective of the opportunities it offers the card itself is good without being exceptional (the competition is not worse from this point of view), on the other hand of drivers it very stable and it is a VERY big plus.

I think the only brand for which I would change it would be RME. I intended to buy the departing babyface, but since I did not need a large number of inputs and high-end converters, it would have been a bit unfortunate. In the end this UA25 satisfy me (almost) fully, and I do not regret my choice. This is an interface to advise those who want to start in good conditions or those who, like me, identifying their needs and do not really need the "high end".
