The Korg DS-10 software cartidge made for the Nintendo DS platform is an amazing tool for EDM composers.
Obviously there will be no compatability issues since it's made for Nintendo DS and it's a DS cartidge. It's that simple, plug and play.
The manual is sufficient to briefly describe the available functions but if you are not familiar or comfortable with synth modeling then the learning curve is as steep as a brick wall.
All of the controls are fairly easy to access once you have familiarized yourself with them and the overall workflow. Again, if you are new to synth modeling you would benefit hugely by searching for some online tutorials, perhaps a forum group, or to get a friend who is comfortable with synth to guide and help you along.

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

The DS-10 software is plug and play with any Nintendo DS system and it is as stable as it could possibly be. You may encounter some quirks in the programming but I assure you that you'll have to REALLY stretch the limits of the program before any obvious negative effects occur. In other words, if you really know how to work a synth then, yes you can create certain sounds or certain patching situations that may either produce unwanted artifacts or strain the processor inside your DS. I've been using the DS-10 software for about 3 years now and I love it!

OVERALL OPINION

The Korg DS-10 software is an emulation of the classic Korg MonoSynth, and so much more. This is not a "game" nor a "toy". The DS-10 is an incredibly powerful, in your pocket, music production tool.
First off, you get not one but 6 monosynth emulations in one! If you have the DS-i and a copy of the DS-10+ software double that number!
The first two synths are changeable in real-time, one knob at a time. The remaining four are for the drum pads and a stored a samples for the pads and are not adjustable in real-time. Again, double these numbers for the DS-10+ ver. used on a DS-i or better.
Like any of the classic modeling synths the full scope of sounds that can be created with the DS-10 software is staggering. Drum sounds, horn sounds, string sounds, classic fat distorted synth sounds, ambient sounds, you name it! If you have the skill to create them within the synth and the patience to coax these sounds out of the software there is a nearly unlimited number of sounds you can create. Some of my own creations that I am proud of are an upright bass sound, a vibra-slap, all of my drums, strange echoed distorted guitar etc.
An in-depth examination of classic synthesis would be required to truly tell you everything that this software can do, and that would be a book, a big one.
Not only do you have these powerful modeling synths at your fingertips or stylus-tip, you also get a pattern based sequencer with 16 patterns per song with variable tempo and time signature; You also get a song mode to arrange these patterns, a virtual mixer, built in effects, and a Kaos Pad!!
As I've said the depth of the possibilties with the DS-10 is amazing. Just search around, there are many EDM artists out there making killer tracks using just a DS and the DS-10 software.
The overall sound quality is very good. Huge, rediculous bass is attainable and startlingly clear high end sounds are also within reach as well. There is some aliasing and a very small amount of static aparent at times. These are limitations of the DS's capability to handle audio and not the software 95% of the time.
Price vs. value, My Goodness!! What you get with this software is absolutely amazing. I could see this fetching 100$+ and would still call it a deal. But, you can get it so much cheaper than that!
For the Nintendo DS system there is NOTHING like this, there are alot of really good synth and sequencing programs for PC and MAC, but nothing like this for a portable handheld. Period.

The software is easy to access, I have Japanese import, so I never read a single word of instruction, and yet I'm doing pretty good. The interface is in English and very instinctive.

I use the output jack connected to the microphone input of my laptop, running Ubuntu Studio. It works like a dream.

OVERALL OPINION

Not a game, more than a gadget, a real instrument!

Well, ok, the sounds are certainly not fully comparable to those of a real vintage synth. But we can really work, the polish, and get that sound straight out think a NES, and even imitations of instruments. I could get sounds much like a flute, piano, glockenspiel ...
The patching brings real added value, it allows to vary parameters of sound (octave, pan, cutoff, attack ...) at a frequency which is defined.
The only regret I have is that the sequencer does not offer much space, but relativize, this is a DS cartridge, and for 40 euros, well worth the money! I walk around this problem by using multiple memory locations and recording on pc, I can then combine them.

The fact that it runs on DS is a tremendous advantage for me, you can call for transport during peak hours!

We open the box, you put the cartridge, it runs the software, we find for 5 minutes and rolling! If you are used synthesizers obviously ...

As against the headphone I'm single, I'll test it in a mixer to see if it comes from my headphone ... In the menus (including the DS) I did not find choices mono / stereo.

Obviously it is designed for Nintendo DS, miss more than that plant, but not!

OVERALL OPINION

For a few days I hack. It is quick to tinker a sequence of "No stress"!

At his I think it's very good, we have the basic waveforms, and we have a real choice of settings, with even a distortion and a small multi-effect sufficiently configurable.

The architecture is simple: two synthesizers + one drum. The mixer has six channels: one for synth, 4 for 4 drum sounds (kick + snare + + hh effect like tom or zap). All overseen by a sequencer patterns, which can of course combine to make a song. You can save, I think, 48 songs.

Small regret, the synths are monophonic ... At the same time it's supposed to recall a MS-10, huh! Good Moo ... Next time if we could have a DS-30 voice polyphony with 3 on at least one of the synths that would be cool!

Other than that, a "Kaoss" is cool, whether to play the notes or changing the filters, for example. Another regret anyway, you have to play the notes with the sequencer on the road. No way to play "freestyle" without tempo imposed.

Installation is very easy. The start is more complicated for someone who has never made a synth. The manual is certainly clear enough, but lack of clarity considering its size (10X10cm) and, as many textbooks, it is in desperate need of concrete examples. Fortunately there are Internet including Youtube ...

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

Promising on paper is even better when you have the subject in hand.
In fact we are left with two synths, sequencers, kaos 2, 1 4 drum pads, every edit, modify, mixable with backup (backups sounds -28 - -20 pieces - patterns - by 16-bits)
Performance is excellent despite the limitations: Maximum 16-step pattern, digital sound
8 bits (of course nothing to do with a real analog synth Korg MS10!)
But with its audio output (headphones =) nothing prevents you to connect your PC and enter your favorite software: Cubase, Magix ... or plug it into an amp 60W mini (and here you'll sound much more punchy!)

OVERALL OPINION

I got as a gift at Christmas and it does not go a day without my tickle the screen with the stylus. I have already composed a dozen songs and really I find it very amusing!
In short, I've never had this much fun since the Casio VL TONE, which also in its way was fabulous.
Unbeatable value for money.

It is a cre software for the Nintendo DS so it's stable, reliable, fast and portable.
In five seconds you find yourself facing the interface and you can play or call.
Everything can be done with the stylus but some keys have been t contribution to make the synth section diffrent more accessible and therefore work faster.

In my Japanese version of the manual is in Kanji rdig what makes me indchiffrable but ultimately I did not have the feeling of being lost in the possibilities of the software which is nevertheless relatively high.

The habitus of squenage synthse and there will not be lost. Others are encouraged to get the page to lead to better software. The knowledge gained will be rexploitable. This app makes the simplicity and efficiency. Vocabulary, English, is that of any aficionado of computer music

9 / 10 because the interface navigation finally exhausted force to work on it even though it is probably as good as fucking possible. One would have AIM all the action but it is impossible and this interface is doing handily dj.

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

In terms of "performances" of software I have to say I'm pretty excited. The palette is wide and its accessible despite the lo-fi characters of the latter can be achieved in a subtle insouponne stamp them.
On the other hand rendering is also good trs. This soft synth sounds produced with gouache. It is far from the sounds of some skinny VST synth simulating other's family MS10. In return some find that a lack of momentum but it is a choice that match with the expectations of the target Aesthetics my humble opinion, so I think it's the right choice.
In fact the performance level by the soft sounds dlivrs rpondent compltement my expectations.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for several months. I dj triturated some synth in VST (mostly freeware) under my squenceur gnraliste (Cunbase) but I never found anything as good a price comparable. Still, it must have a Nintendo DS at home.
A large default? The limitation of not squence 16. It is therefore naturally at a resolution four times with the sixteenth note (in binary). If you want more time one is forced at a resolution disabling (crooked or black) and if we want more of resolutions we are forced to work for two squence time or a time ... All this is a pity given the quality of the rest.
A lower default: the Effects Rack can not be automated.

A big advantage? It is therefore of the Nintendo DS has taken anywhere, serves as a notepad for components, you can start a song anywhere and finish at home and is handy.

9 / 10 for overall quality, the point at least explained by the two major default raised.
