get east west if you want something better

MOTU Symphonic InstrumentPublished on 07/05/12 at 20:40
MOTU Symphonic Instrument is very easy to understand and use, you wont be confused or even need to look at tutorials online nor will you need a manual to operate this vst plug in. The price of this plug in is where I think they it doesn’t sit right with me, I think it is overpriced for the quality that it provides. It does have some great patches and presets but I think East West is better in my opinion. Also, MOTU Symphonic Instrument isn’t very appealing to me just going off the look of it. The layout and interface of it really irritates me and doesn’t spark my creativity. SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

Ran this on a quad core pc with plenty ram so it ran find and I have never had an issue with it. I do not use this vst much anymore. I cant even really remember the last time that I used it because East West is so much better. This is a decent software but its overpriced and if you use East West you will see how much you are missing.

    OVERALL OPINION

I have used this many times over the years, but I don’t use it anymore and probably never will again. Its not bad and it’s a big file when loading it into your computer. I recently purchased a new studio computer and didn’t even waste my time loading this onto it because I know I wont use it at all. it’s a good vst, but its over priced and East West is so much better for me to use and the interface is so much better.

Installation nickel (remember to copy the second DVD msi.dat before starting the installation)
No need for manual, the plug is fairly simple to install.

I just had a problem with the latest version of Logic Pro (9.1.3) where it did not validate the plug but still usable with, as a message on every boot, the plug is not validated.

    SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

MacPro 8 core with 6GB of RAM
The plug works fine on this config.

    OVERALL OPINION

I used it 4 or 5 years before moving to EastWest.
This is a great plug too expensive to start.
Now, if your budget allows, skip all EASTWEST

Installing a bit laborious for the first version I had but the update (stand alone) was much easier to install.
Use with Digital Performer, without any problems.
The manual is almost useless and very well thought out ergonomics.

    SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

At the time of purchase, I used a MacBook Pro which did not exploit the full app. Despite this, I was able to enjoy myself using a lot of track, but by placing a cross on the convolution reverb.

    OVERALL OPINION

I have this app for several years, however, I do not use it regularly, for lack of need.

I especially like the convolution reverb (on my brand new iMac), The choirs of children, pizz, and especially the piano and guitar, really bleuffant for these two instruments.
I do not think I used all the settings to get something realistic, because you can play for each instrument on the envelope, ...

Taken at present, I find that the software is interesting.
I have no other software to compare, but I could hear a little what is done via the web ... it made me more confident about the quality of the samples.

The weak point of this software, it is the installation process. I am in Windows XP SP3. The software on the CD is version 1.1.3.
First obstacle: the launch Cubase SX 3 is blocked by loading the plug-in MSI. After reading forum, it appears that there is a conflict between MSI and Internet Explorer 8! After uninstalling Internet Explorer 8, Cubase starts normally.
Second obstacle: version 1.1.3 released sound bad and jerky and crashes. After a day trying to fix the latency, etc. I read on a forum that in fact the version 1.1.3 is full of bugs and it is better to switch back to version 1.1.2 (downloadable after registration site motu). So I installed the 1.1.2 version, and there, the miracle, everything works perfectly!
One can also regret that the installation of the samples or in part manually (just copy-pre-DVD on your hard drive!).
In short, if you have read, everything will be fine, others are planning two days of hassle ... Have paid € 249 for this mess, I did not like at all!

    SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

I'm running Windows XP SP3 with QuadCore Q6600 2.4GHz, 2GB RAM, Sound Card Creative Labs X-Fi Elite Pro with Cubase SX3. After installation of version 1.1.2 (see implementation ...), everything works wonderfully. I sleep and have a song with two parallel sessions in Cubase, and I have suffered no limitation. The sound is very realistic and can be surrounded in an atmosphere of symphony orchestra. Each instrument can have its own audio track in cubase (might regret that this is not the default) to set a specific effect on such an instrument.
Operation is very easy for anyone familiar with the operation of cubase and virtual instruments. The sound banks are easily accessible. Rendering speed is excellent for playing with sensitivity instruments.
For a live game, the tracks each use a 4x16 MIDI channel according to the various MIDI input of the PC and the channel number.
Finally, a customization of certain parameters of the ADSR envelope, filter functions and modulation to customize the rendering of instruments.

    OVERALL OPINION

I use it for more than one week, and once the big hassle of the installation, forgive quickly through the rendering quality and ease of daily use.
In terms of price / quality ratio, compared to a hardware synthesizer, it is very good, on the other hand, installation problems could regret having paid for such a hassle!

    Gnrale configuration is easy?
Yes, trs, and it is one of the positives of this software from others. I've worked with before Edirol Orchestra, whose interface, though neat, is really fucking bad, and I tried EastWest products whose ownership is more complicated.
The manual be good in English, drang me at all: I have barely opened and I took my dj good brands.

The manual is clear and sufficient?
Yes, although in English (but easily understandable). It seems (read on the forum) a manual in French is in prep. To see.

    SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

    Personal configuration
    Windows XP SP2
    Athlon64 3200 +
    2 GB of RAM
    Motherboard K8N4E
I use the sound chip of the motherboard (my Audigy 2NX with grill 6 months ago, I have not had the courage to replace it)

The software works he correctly on this configuration?
Yes, but the two gigabytes of RAM is not too much (200 MB of free APRS loading multis two of 16 instruments, and ramouille a little). on the other hand, a sound card with native drivers ASIO plutt is recommended.

This software + hardware configuration is stable?
My config is not trs own base, so to judge is a bit hard. I had one crash in Cakewalk Sonar, and I could restart IMMEDIATE APRS carefree. Plutt satisfactory.

    OVERALL OPINION

How long have you use it?
Bought that day, 2 or 3 hours of use.

What is the particular feature you like best and least?
Wealth of instruments available, prices allchant, clean interface, great quality rverbrations of trs.

Have you tried many other models before acqurir?
I used a lot Edirol Orchestral, and I quickly tried Symphonic Orchestra Gold Edition EastWest.

    How do you report qualitprix?
Unbeatable. Its only direct competitor at this level would Symphonic Orchestra Silver Edition, especially with the XP version that just came out. The Gold version is a different level, but less rich in terms of available instruments.
If the product Edirol silent around 230 euros, would be a potential competitor, but since it sold a price next to the abusive offers quality, there is nothing repeat, MSI is well ahead (say the main advantages of Edirol Orchestral is lightweight so it's really turned on configs little greedy, and sounds, even if they are of quality rather than average, have the advantage of being homognes ncessitent and do any rework to a minimum of minutes)

    I'm sorry
    - No possibility to change the tempra. I knew it, but it is a shame, especially since the instrument sounds are pretty old Russian (Well, baroque oboe is a bit odd. I look at one that is mounted on my desk, and I ' Sometimes not connect the sounds with what I draw offers MOTU: D). But not being able to use them with tempra old, it's a shame.
    - Dception about the quality of solo instruments (mostly wood). We have dsquilibres brutal, sometimes false notes, reports octaves really limits while on acoustic instruments, may be corrected without too much trouble. Like MOTU had wanted to leave some grimey sounds to make more "real". APRS two hours of use, I can correct a little while a. .. Unless I get used?
    - Dception about the tessitura of the instruments. There is a limit tration range that is in any way tural range of instruments. The oboe should be able to go down to Bb, the oboe d'amore in the Lab (and I'm not talking about the needle in the middle of the English horn in Eb or the horn Has amputated and an octave below one above (same for all brass instruments in fact) ... I understand better the file size of samples now.
    - Sounds really means naked. The cache is rverb misra, it's a shame (well, one must recognize that it fulfills its role as trs good fawn is a good thing).
    - The pianos are also quite mdiocres. But hey, they play out their rle piano conductor. As a solo instrument, it's not a.
    - But why not give an exhaustive list of instruments (and their variations) on the site? In the end, it is not doing badly, but I was afraid of what I have in the box: S.
    - I have a problem on some srieux squence (originally written for Edirol Orchestra): the sounds dcalent After a few minutes, giving a magma informs ... can be a concern to sync?)
    - Beuuh? O It is my preset percussion? Damage which is handy, sometimes (even if I think we can tinker with it one).
    - Bizarre as some instruments are not in heights Submitted tural (percussion major at the top of the keyboard, for example) ... was not a big default, but requires a touch up octaves.
    - I miss the ropes with a sharp attack and held her. I will not tinker with this one.

    I like
    - The interface is clear enough (thankfully, as the doc is in English).
    - The rverbs are really smashing when a does not crack: D (rsolus problem using ASIO4ALL and the update ... what's weird is that with the standalone the update, I can use any driver, while with DXi, ASIO out there is no salvation).
    - It's really enjoyable to have as many samples in a single pack, which made me avoid EastWest products (besides the price, although sr).

    Balance gnral
A neat product but without a budget more than adequate. It is true that it is THE FIRST MOTU production in this area, we can not a spirit that they continue on their launches.
What t said before by someone else is absolutely true: there is a dense pack trs instruments, but the quality of this fact in gnrale ptit. It was in the amount of dtriment quality.
Please note, overall, a lot remains. But a little dcevant in many ways, small frustrations ...
I know I'm going to do. All fawns, I have no choice: D
