Native instruments Kore is the original native instruments system that I saw for the first time being used at a local guitar center and it caught my eye right away. Now first of if you are thinking of purchasing this, you should look at the newer version of it, I wouldn’t get this one unless you are getting a great used deal on it. Getting started with it was pretty self explanatory and I didn’t have any issues with it running on my Windows XP laptop at the time. I was actually very happy with it for about a year until I sold it to a friend for one of his drum mics because I really needed on at the time. But there where not compatibility problems at all with the Native Instruments Kore and my computer.


SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

If you have a good stable computer system then you wont have any issues with this. But if your system is already an older system and has old drivers you could run into some errors down the road especially depending on which daw you are using with it. I have experienced several issues on one of my older dell desktops with this when I got it. I was getting some really bad lagging, it seemed to eat up all of the cpu/ram and really caused some problems. But on my laptop that was XP, it ran great and never caused any issues and I loved it.


OVERALL OPINION

At the time that I purchased it , it was great. But after returning it and using a few other units similar to it, I realize how many issues I was having using it. It just didn’t work well with my work flow and I wish it had more stuff on the actually unit that I could synce up with some knobs or sliders in my daw jus to have it all going into hardware but it doesn’t have any extra options . This was a pain, but I had a work around because I still used my midi keyboard knobs and sliders for that. I would make the same choice again if I had too, but knowing what I know now, I would have probably chose something from M audio.

Installation very simple .. XP 32 "on the other hand for a new product, no drivers for Win XP 64! is shame ... shame because XP 64 manages more than 3 gigabytes of RAM and really take into account the CPU 64 .. ! 8 gig and I do enjoy that Kore 2 Giga penny WinXP 32 .. Besides it eats into resources .. and there's no driver for XP 64 KORE, I e-mailed from native instruments s 'not care a bit .. I feel a short, but they released a product already exceeded in the Drivers
Manual? Well as in NI usually clear ... But it should really read ..

BI 64 bit proc Xeon 3.6 8 GB of ram two 500 gig SATA drive ... XP 32 and XP 64 on the other drive ... Works well with XP 32 .. No sound in XP 64 "so do not work" we do not take advantage of 64 bit proc and ram a shame because it's a product that requires resources ram and proc

OVERALL OPINION

About a week ... Sleek metal desing a sublime work with third instrument plugins .. the FX plugins also .. Really ideal for making sounds with various instruments and classify plugins .. to have an emergency!!

If you have 64 Proc and use XP 64, go your way and forget for the moment Kore

Kore installs problem free on the system on which I used it. We didn't have any compatibility issues on our system. The setup is a little bit convoluted after you install it. Not in terms of getting the system to recognize the hardware, but in terms of matching the controls on the hardware to what you want it to do in the software. The time you would potentially save by using Kore is easily lost by having to tediously map out all the editing parameters. Also there are not enough knobs to handle all of the parameters in the software, so you are constantly having to shuffle around. The manual is okay, but leaves a few holes in your knowledge. You will most likely be searching online for a few questions you'll have with Kore.

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

We installed this on a Mac G5 at a studio I worked at. We have been using kontakt a lot there, and wanted to control it with Kore. It did technically work fine with the computer and the software. You have to make sure your latency is down or else the Kore is very laggy. Having lag on a control surface is a very distracting and unnatural feeling, and adds to inefficiency. We once plugged it in after starting up the software, and it caused a crash. Other than that it seemed to be fairly stable, just plug it in before starting your software.

OVERALL OPINION

We only used this for a short while before returning it. We were hoping it would speed up all of the parameter editing we were having to do in kontakt by having it available at our fingertips. However, between the parameter mapping you have to always do, the lack of sufficient knobs, and the lag caused by latency, it actually took more time to make use of Kore. Maybe it's just the way we work, but for us it was not helpful. For us the value was not good, but maybe for others it would be. I wouldn't get it again, but I wouldn't necessarily discourage others from trying it out.
