High-resolution control over Pro Tools
The Artist Mix features EuCon, a high-speed control protocol developed by Avid that enables simultaneous control of multiple applications and even workstations over an Ethernet cable at 250 times the speed and eight times the resolution of MIDI. EuCon automatically detects whatever application is in the foreground and instantly sets the high-resolution touchscreen and displays, motorized faders, and arsenal of controls to match. There are over a thousand Pro Tools features that are accessible over EuCon and it continues to increase as newer features are added.
Touch-sensitive motorized faders
Eight high-quality ALPS 100mm long throw faders offer accurate and smooth mixing; touching a fader will automatically select the corresponding track. Avid consoles are renowned for their quality components and smooth operation, and now the Artist Mix gives you that "feel" in an affordable, compact unit!
Multifunction rotary encoders
The Artist Mix's eight rotary encoders give you direct control over everything from panning and gain to editing your most powerful plug-ins and EQ. These knobs and keys can also be pressed to select/deselect and navigate through parameters. Knob set selector keys allow you to quickly assign the rotary encoders to control plug-ins, EQs, panning, signal routing, and much more. You can either control the same parameter across all tracks or assign all knobs to one track for easy editing of multiple parameters at once.
High-resolution metering
The Artist Mix's high-resolution 128 x 64 pixel OLED display provides track name/number, detailed metering (from mono to 5.1 surround data), parameter name/value currently being modified by its corresponding rotary encoder, current automation mode, and more. A lot of us here at Sweetwater use the Avid Artist Mix, and we appreciate its easy-to-read display.

If you have an iPad, the FREE Pro Tools | Control app's layouts will speed up your workflow tremendously. Create a layout for your drum tracks, one up for guitar and bass, one for keys, and another for VCA tracks, then recall the layouts via your iPad when you want to work with a specific group of tracks. The iPad app has tons of other uses — in fact, you'll gain access to over a thousand Pro Tools features.
Expand your surface with a Pro Tools | Dock
While the Artist Mix certainly does a lot on its own or in combination with the iPad app, you can also expand what it can do with the Pro Tools | Dock. The Pro Tools | Dock integrates with your iPad, extending the Pro Tools | Control iOS app's functionality with transport controls, a jog wheel, and automation controls. A channel fader, color-matched soft keys, and soft knobs round out the Pro Tools | Dock's functionality. Enjoy ergonomic, tactile control over your DAW, while benefiting from many of the center section functions of Avid's class-leading S6 control surface, such as a channel view for editing inserts, sends, pans, and more in a compact form factor.
