- Zynewave Updates Podium to v2.21.
-
Zynewave has updated Podium to v2.21.
Changes:
- Added a menu bar at the top of the project window. This holds the menu buttons that previously were placed between the inspector and project page tabs. The menu bar has an auto-hide option button when the window is maximized. When auto-hide is enabled the menu bar can be shown by moving the mouse cursor to the top of the screen and holding it there for half a second.
- Moved some of the commands in the Setup menu into a new Window menu.
- Moved the browser page tab next to the inspector tab. Selecting either the inspector or the browser will automatically hide the other.
- Updated the button layout in the inspector and browser pages.
- Changed the transport toolbar buttons from rectangular to circular shape to unify the appearance of all toolbar buttons. Changed the layout of the transport toolbar in the default setup.
- Changed the way that toolbar buttons are spaced. Buttons placed next to each other will be joined into a button bar. Buttons can be separated by inserting a space element between the buttons in the toolbar properties dialog.
- Added "slice button" and "stretch button" elements to the toolbar dialog. Placing the slice element before or after a button will make the button side rectangular instead of rounded. Placing one or more stretch elements after a button will widen the button.
- Added an "apply" command to the toolbar dialog.
- Added "restore default editor profiles" command to the Setup menu.
- Added "Customize Region" submenu to the editor view menu for quick access to the properties dialogs for individual regions. Removed the region properties shortcuts from the various editor context menus.
- The menu button in the mixer is renamed from "view menu" to "mixer menu" to avoid confusion with the view menu in the editor.
- The name entered in a project or sound properties dialog is now linked to the filename. When a new project is created, the project properties dialog shows "Project name (used as filename when the project is saved)". When the project has been saved the name field is made read-only and the caption reads "Project name (same as filename)". The same applies to the name field in the sound properties dialog.
- Creating a new project from a template will show the project properties dialog.
- The zReverb VST plugin is included in the demo installer.
- Fix: Crash could occur during audio recording depending on the current timeline zoom range.
Associated item(s) - Zynewave Podium v2.20
-
Zynewave has updated Podium to v2.20.
Changes:
- The default setup includes a new set of arrangement editors: "Tracks", "Editor", "Mixer", "Big Transport". Switching between the profiles can be done with the new editor profile bar located above the transport. Use the "load default setup" setup menu command to get the new default layout.
- The embedded editor view menu now includes editor profiles that have a timeline ruler. Selecting a profile with its own timeline ruler will detach the timeline zooming from the arrangement editor. The embedded editor remembers if the last selected profile had its own timeline.
- Added "editor profile bar" element to the toolbar properties dialog. A toolbar that includes this element will show a row of buttons with the names of all compatible editors. Clicking an editor button will switch to that editor. Right-clicking a button shows a menu with "Customize", "Duplicate", "Delete", "Move Left" and "Move Right" commands.
- Each MIDI and audio input can be assigned to multiple tracks by dragging the input object and holding the control key when dropping on a track. It can also be copied by using the new "Assign/Copy To Track" popup menu command in the inspector input list.
- The "auto-assign to focus track" option is added to the track/input submenu. Previously it was only available in the track inspector.
- When a track has an auto-assigned input, the input is shown on the track header. Previously auto-assigned mappings were only shown in the track inspector and the mixer.
- New arrangements will by default have the "auto-assign to focus track" option enabled for the first MIDI input.
- The device, preset, param and input popup menus in the mixer are now identical to the corresponding submenus in the track menu.
- Removed the "track layout mode" combobox setting from the arrangement properties. Tracks are now always shown using the compact mode.
- Removed the "set up audio input and VSTi" option from the new arrangement dialog.
- Added "create project template" and "create arrangement" options to the project start page. Enabling arrangement creation will no longer pop up the new arrangement dialog, but instead use default settings and go directly to the arrangement editor.
- Selecting the "Microsoft GS" synthesizer in the MIDI input interfaces setup will pop up a warning about the potential conflict with the ASIO driver.
- Removed the "editor type" setting from the Editor Profile Properties dialog. The editor type is now automatically determined from the regions that are included in the profile.
- The Editor Profiles dialog shows editor type info in the listbox.
- Added "texture image" fill type to the space region and modified the appearance of the "recess" fill type.
- Added "Browse Podium Video Tutorials" command to the Help menu. This will open the new ZynewaveDotCom channel on YouTube.
- Fix: Drag and drop of a device mapping on a track now checks if the mapping is already assigned in the track effect chain. This eliminates the problem where accidentally dragging an effect mapping in the track header would create a duplicate instance.
- Fix: Switching editor profiles could cause some key shortcuts to be disabled.
Note: Podium 2.20 uses an updated method for storing editor profiles in the Podium.ini file, so if you plan to go back to 2.19 Zynewave recommends to make a backup of your Podium.ini file before running 2.20. Alternatively you can use the "load default setup" command when going back to 2.19.
The new editor profile features are demonstrated in a video on the new Zynewave YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jv39dX7NP_Q
Associated item(s) - Podium Updated To v2.17
-
Zynewave has updated Podium to v2.17.
Changes:
- Redesigned the "create new project" page. The page can be scrolled vertically if it does not fit within the window. This can occur if running on a netbook with low screen resolution.
- If the "Zynewave/Podium" application data folder created by the installer is not found when Podium is started, the folder where Podium.exe is located is used as data folder instead. The Podium.ini file will thus be stored in this folder. This makes it easier to run Podium from a flash drive on a PC system where Podium has not been installed.
- The installer no longer creates the "Zynewave Podium Projects" folder in the Documents folder. Instead the user is presented with a "project folder preferences" dialog the first time Podium is started. The user can let Podium build the default folders, or configure the folders in the preferences.
- The "Sound file cache folder" setting in preferences can be left blank to use the Windows temp folder. The default setup now uses this instead of the Cache folder previously created by the installer.
- Removed the "Relative to project path" option from the sound properties dialog. Sound files are now always referenced with a relative path in the project file if the sound file is located within the project folder.
- Removed the "Relative path" plugin file option from the Device Mapping properties dialog. Plugins are now always referenced with their full path in the project file.
- Multiple VST plugin scan folders can be specified in the preferences dialog.
- Added "automatically search for missing plugins when loading a project" option to preferences. This option is enabled by default.
- The track inspector embedded in the project window is automatically opened/closed when an arrangement editor is opened/closed.
- Clicking outside the navigator zoom pane will not change the vertical track zoom position.
- Double-clicking in the navigator will toggle between full zoom and restoring previous zoom range.
- Removed the outdated example projects from the installer.
- Fix: Recording on a composite track could crash if recording was started at a position before an existing comp event on the track.
- Fix: Clicking outside the zoombar in the navigator could freeze the UI for a few seconds if the "follow play cursor" view option was enabled.
- Fix: Pressing the 'B' key shortcut with focus on a parameter track would insert new bounce tracks instead of toggling bounce mode on the existing track.
Associated item(s) - Zynewave Podium Updated To v2.16
-
Zynewave has updated Podium to v2.16.
Changes:
- Added a new resizable timeline navigator to the top of all editor windows. This replaces the horizontal scrollbar in the default setup. The navigator shows a miniature graphic of the full duration of arrangements, sounds, note and curve sequences. The current zoom range is displayed as a sliding transparent pane on top of the miniature. The zoom range pane can be dragged and resized to quickly adjust the zoom.
- Clicking in the navigator outside the zoom pane sets the zoom range centered around the clicked position. Double-clicking zooms out to the full range. Double-clicking either of the left/right zoom resize handles sets the zoom to the start/end of the sequence. Shift+click+dragging selects a zoom range. Middle-clicking sets the edit cursor position.
- Using mouse wheel on the navigator zoom pane will zoom in and out similar to how mouse wheel zooming works on the timeline ruler. Using mouse wheel outside the zoom pane will set the zoom range centered around the mouse position.
- Loading setup files created with earlier Podium versions will automatically be converted to use the navigator region.
- The old dual-purpose "meter" region is split into two separate "velocity" and "curve" regions.
- The embedded editor previously part of the tracks region is now a separate region.
- Clicking the "insert new" button in the profile properties dialog shows a popup menu instead of the previous "insert new region" dialog.
- When loop-recording MIDI notes, note events are only created if there is no overlap with already recorded notes.
- Fix: The transition from a spline curve point to a line or bar point were not always accurate.
- Fix: The 64-bit engine produced noise when outputting to 24-bit ASIO drivers.

- Zynewave Podium v2 Updated
-
Zynewave has updated Podium to v2.15.
Changes:
- Implemented a new automation system. Instead of treating each curve sequence as a separate playback object, all curve sequences on a track are combined to form a single track automation curve. This track curve stretches from start to end of the arrangement.
- The track curve is constructed from all the points in the visible sections of the curve sequences. This makes it possible to overlap curve sequence events to for example create a fade in/out in the middle of a longer fade curve.
- Recording parameter automation will now record start and end points upon grabbing and releasing a Podium parameter fader or a plugin editor control.
- Added "show points on parameter track curves" option to the tracks region properties dialog. This is by default off.
- The curve editor edit menu has two new commands: "transform spline curve to lines" and "transform to grid aligned points". The old "digitize spline curve" command has been renamed to "transform to spline curve".
- Ctrl+clicking a track record button or pressing the Ctrl+R shortcut key will toggle record mode of both the source track and all effect tracks in the chain.
- Ctrl+clicking an event will now toggle event selection on mouse-up instead of on mouse-down. This allows ctrl+clicking to be used for starting a drag-copy operation without having to first click and then press the control key.
- Fix: Using the "move track" submenu would not move effect tracks correctly.

- Zynewave Podium Updated To v2.14
-
Zynewave has updated Podium to v2.14.
Changes:
- The track inspector can now be opened in one or more separate windows using the "New Inspector Window" command in the setup menu.
- Created a new browser window. This replaces the old list window. The browser can be configured to show a project browser and a file browser. If both browsers are enabled they are placed side by side with a draggable divider.
- Added a toolbar at the top of browser windows. This toolbar contains a menu button for browser options and optional buttons for toggling the project and file browsers, favorite folder buttons and a gain control for auditioning sound files.
- The file browser menu has a "Favorites" submenu which can be used to quickly swap between often used folders. The Favorites are created with the "Add To Favorites" command. The "Organize Favorites..." command opens the "Favorite Folders" configuration dialog.
- Moving the mouse over the file browser address bar will highlight parent folders. Clicking a parent folder will enter that folder in the address bar.
- Enabling the "Audition On Focus Track" browser option will make auditioned sound files play on the focus track of the currently active arrangement. If the option is disabled auditioned files are sent directly to the master.
- Enabling the "Audition On Bar Start" browser option will sync audition start if an arrangement is currently playing.
- Sequence and sound events can be dragged from the event list in the track inspector.
- Added "SysEx..." command to the "New MIDI Parameter" submenu in the inspector parameter panel.
- The Podium guide is updated with new chapters describing the browser window and the Favorite Folders dialog.
- Fix: Minimizing/restoring the Podium application could reopen windows that were previously closed. This happened only on XP and was caused by a change in 2.13.
Associated item(s) - The track inspector can now be opened in one or more separate windows using the "New Inspector Window" command in the setup menu.

- Renamed browser window to project window.
- Changed the frame of project windows to a normal frame with minimize/maximize buttons.
- All project windows now stay behind all other types of windows. This makes it possible to maximize a project window on a second monitor, and have any plugin and editor windows stay on top when clicking/editing in the project window.
- Pressing Ctrl+A will select all the text in the stickie note window edit field.
- Removed the outdated "browser project overlay image file" option from the project properties dialog.
- Updated editor screenshots in the guide.
- Fix: Using the "Peak Scale (0 dB)" RMS meter scale option would crash if RMS meters were enabled on the track headers.

- Fix: Crash could occur when deleting a parameter track which contained events currently shown in an open curve editor.
- Fix: Offline bouncing could produce wrong output when multiple curve sequence events were placed on the same parameter track
- Added popup help to all buttons on the track lane headers and the mixer strips.
- Fix: Fixed an elusive bug that could cause a crash on startup.
Associated item(s) - Added "Online Help" option to the Help menu. When this option is enabled all Podium dialog boxes will show a Help button at the lower left corner. Clicking this help button or pressing the Alt+H key shortcut will open the corresponding Podium guide page on the Zynewave wiki website.
- Zynewave Updated To Podium v2.10
-
Zynewave has updated Podium to v2.10.
Changes:
- Context help for the UI control under the mouse cursor can now be shown in a docked help panel below the inspector or list page. The help panel can be toggled with the "Docked help" option in the Help menu.
- The tempo event properties dialog now has controls for setting up a scale. There is a combo-box for selecting among common scale types, a combo-box for selecting the tonic, 12 note buttons for setting up a custom scale and a text field for editing the scale name. Tempo events configured with a scale will show the scale name on the tempo event lane.
- The timeline background of the piano roll editor will highlight notes for any scales defined in tempo events in the arrangement. This feature can be toggled with the "highlight scale" option in the piano roll properties dialog.
- A new "find matching scale" command is included in the piano roll edit menu and context menu, if at least two different notes are selected. The command will open a dialog showing best scale matches, with options for applying the scale to a tempo event in the arrangement.
- Added "editor mouse snap mode" setting to the Preferences dialog. Options are "grid line closest to cursor" and "start of grid unit under cursor".
- Creating a new plugin parameter track from the inspector parameter panel or the track context menu, will also create a curve sequence on the track. The current plugin parameter value is set as the starting point in the curve sequence.
- The "delete oldest take when maximum take tracks is reached" option now splits old takes that extend beyond the recording range.
- Added "draw notes with shadow effect" option to the drum map region properties.
- Added "drum map region properties" shortcut to the drum map right-click menu.
- Added "bypass processing when detecting CPU overload" option to preferences. Disabling this option can result in smoother playback, but with a slower UI response when CPU overload occurs. The option is by default off. Previous Podium versions always bypassed processing when detecting CPU overload.
- Updated the Podium Guide PDF file included in the installer.
Associated item(s) - Context help for the UI control under the mouse cursor can now be shown in a docked help panel below the inspector or list page. The help panel can be toggled with the "Docked help" option in the Help menu.
