The AKG K 501s are a set of studio headphones that I have used for monitoring purposes during tracking. While just from the feel of these headphones you couldn't tell that these were something worth using due to the fact that they aren't the sturdiest, but the K 501s pack a big sound for sure. Don't get me wrong, they are definitely more than wearable and are actually pretty comfortable, it's just that when you hold them in your hand they don't feel all that well built. However, I've never really had a problem with them breaking or anything like that. They are pretty comfortable to wear even though they might not have the tightest or sturdiest grip on your head. The sound quality of the AKG K 501s makes it all worthwhile as they have a very good sound overall. They aren't so good where they would be suitable for mixing or anything like that, but they are more than adequate for listening to music or monitoring during recording. I didn't find that too much sound escaped them either, which is always nice if you're tracking with them. I don't know how easy it would be to get your hands on a pair of these, but the only ones that I've ever seen were the ones that I used. I don't believe that they make these anymore, but the price shouldn't be too much since these are generally on the older side of AKG headphones. AKG certainly knows what they're doing when it comes to headphones as they have an extensive collection of high quality headphones to their credit. So if you do come across a pair of AKG K 501s and are in the market for a simple pair of studio monitoring headphones, I'd definitley recommend checking them out to see if you like the sound and feel, but I'd definitely vouch for them overall...
