« Mayones has another winner! »

Published on 10/04/11 at 06:56
For those that aren't familiar, Mayones is a Polish company that has been around for quite some time now! They are reknowned for the highest quality of craftsmanship in their basses/guitars. This one in particular is equipped with the venerable EMG 81/85(Other pickup options are available) combo and is unbelievably shred-worthy. A three way switch and one volume/one tone controls your electronics(coil splitting is also available). The body of the Setius Pro is a comfortably carved piece of mahogany capped with a lovely flamed maple cap. The Bolt-on neck of this beauty is a 5 piece maple/mahogany combo with a very comfortable "C" shape. The 43 mm nut width is very comfortable with the 16" fingerboard radius. 24 Medium-jumbo are set in the lovely unmarked rosewood fingerboard. This axe also features a Schaller FLoyd Rose PRO, Schaller M6 Mini tuners and a locking nut.

UTILIZATION

This guitar is exceptionally comfortable and is very well designed. You can tell Mayones took their time with the details on this one. The neck heel is exceptionally comfortable and combining the with the cutaway of the lower bout, makes play in the upper registers effortless. The EMG's obviously are very versatile, but tend to lean far more toward high gain amplifiers, with an obvious crunchy growl. The guitar is very lightweight, due to it's bolt-on design. The Schaller Floyd stays in tune well despite ridiculous amounts of dive-bombing.

SOUNDS

All my reviews are done through the same collection of Amplifiers:

Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Solo
Soldano SLO
Fender Twin Reverb
Peavey XXX
Peavey Ultra 120
Rocktron Vendetta

Effects are typically not used. Clean tones on this guitar are very clear, but the guitar screams into overdrive when plugged into the Orange Mesa Channel. High gain playing is obviously what this guitar is geared towards, but that in no way should dissuade non-high gain players. The cleans are very even, crystal clear and this guitar sings in the upper registers of any non-dirty channel it was run through.

OVERALL OPINION

Mayones craftsmanship is second to none. Fretwork is phenomenal and woods are exceptionally well-chosen. Hardwear is solid and will stand up to years of even the heaviest playing. Mayones is an option for those with the money to spend. There are a LOT of guitars out there in these price ranges, but if you are a shredder or heavier artist, you owe it to yourself to try a Mayones if you can find one. I highly recommend Mayones! It is my favorite condiment. Sorry, a bad joke!
