« Takamine EG530SSC »

Published on 09/30/05 at 15:00
I am a 57 year old beginning (again!)guitar player (strummer). I play acoustic guitar with the Church Choir on Sunday mornings. I have played acoustic guitar off and on for ten (10) years. I like and am learning to play the easy chord guitar music versions of Niel Young (solo). I also like Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, and others like James Taylor that play and have that type of mellow acoustic guitar sound . I am planning to take lessons (finally!) in the very near future.

I was at H & H Music (The Forum, Selma (San Antonio) Texas - great place to buy and talk guitars!) during mid May 2005, when I noticed the addition of a new guitar display area. There hanging on the wall were five (5) new Takamine Guitars. My eyes were immediately drawn to the EG530SSC. I was smitten! When I wanted to go electric, I did not like mounting and removing the Dean Markley Pro Mag Plus Acoustic Guitar Pickup on my Seagull S6+ Spruce Top (both purchased at H & H Music!). It’s easy enough to do but, I’m a purist and somehow or other, I just KNOW(?) that the soundboard and the guitar sonics are being affected by the addition of the pickup. On the third week after my discovery, during a markdown sale, I learned that the TAKAMINE EG530SSC was reduced by $100.00. The new cost was $399.99! On that early Saturday June morning, I was a new Tak owner within five minutes of entering the store.

From the moment I strummed that first unplugged G Chord, I knew that this beautiful and expertly made Takamine Acoustic/Electric Guitar was meant for me. When I plugged in electrically, I was not disappointed! The TK4NT Pre Amp produced a wonderfully mellow & full body tansparent sound (later on, this was also the case when I connected through my HOG-30 Pignose Amp!). The on-board tuner is accurate and a nice additional feature of the Pre Amp.
The flawless Takamine workmanship and attention to detail is very evident.

I can't think of a single negetive remark to write about the Takamine EG530SSC. It is obvious that this is a well thought-out Takamine product, solidly manufactured in China with just enough of the human Takamine touch that makes all the difference in the world.

The feel of this acoustic/electric is one of solid construction. The materials used
are a solid Sitka Spruce top and a solid Sepele Mahogany back. The sides, I believe, are laminate Sepele Mahogany sides since the word "solid" is absent from the description of the sides. The neck is satin smooth. The tuners remain tuned forever! The overall look is one of eye-catching serene beauty coupled with gracefull curves and lines.

I’m happy to report that I have not encountered any defects or problems with my TAKAMINE EG530SSC Acoustic/Electric Guitar. I use Elixir Nanoweb Light Strings on her; she sounds even sweeter now than when we first met. I can’t even imagine how much better the sound/sonics will be when I string her up with the new Elixir Nanoweb Phosphor Bronze Light Strings. Be assured that this new TAKAMINE owner will join in spreading the good word about the TAKAMINE name and the quality of their acoustic and acoustic/electric guitars.
