Sing.

Got this used Sting Signature E865 over Ebay for about $140 as the principle mic to replace the wirelesses. Not knowing which was better, I also got a Shure beta 87A for about the same money. Both are top of their line condensers and I expected them to sound and work alike. But no!

Even without comparing, the Shure was a toy, unpleasent to use. When comparing, the shure was trash:
The Sennheiser E865 has execellent, uniform, and sensitive pickup that does not varies too much with the distance from mouth. I have amazed friends who told me they like this mic, totally on their own initiatives.
The Shure Beta 87A sounds weak when farther and sounds harsh when close. It is very sensitive to distance that you must hold it very steadily. It has a slim handle that may not be comfortable to hold. One person prefer this one because of its high frequency emphasis.


Nothing wrong about this one.

I recently aquired the e865 from a Lukert Productions, motion picture production company who happened to be a Sennheiser dealer. No one else in the Phoenix area had them in stock, but they had plenty. Interestingly, they said they sell a lot to churches because they're so rugged. Had seen them dropped of scaffolding onto concrete without ill effect. I paid $249. Have been in search of the perfect vocal stage mic for years, have gone through SM-58's, a number of EV mics and most recently an AKG D-3700.

Crystal clear highs, great punch, good bottom end without being boomy, little need for EQ. Sounds great EQ'd flat. The hype said Sting wanted a mic that has "air" and that's true. There's no distortion even if you scream into it, (I don't, but someone else did, actually cupping her hand around the end). Good feedback rejection and no handling noise. There's a clarity and spacial sound that you just don't get with a dynamic mic. This results in not having to sing with as much effort to be heard.

Nothing, as close to perfect as you can get. Included items are a little Spartan, just a clip and a nylon pouch, but I'd rather have all the money go into the mic, and not some fancy carrying case anyway.

High quality, good finish, good looks. Comfortable in the hand, although I play guitar, so it's on a stand. Mic clip is also good quality, not cheap-looking and holds the mic securely.

I know the Celine Dion also uses this mic, don't know who else. I just know my search is over. I have a very dynamic vocal style and this mic suits me to a "T". I don't know anyone who wouldn't like it, unless someone wanted the muddiness of say, an SM-58 to cover up flaws in their vocal timbre, or a funky sound. Singing through this mic is like being in the studio. I don't think many people are that aware of this mic, appears only intermittently in the MF catalogs, so at this point it's like a secret weapon. People will think you sound better and they won't know why. It's not cheap of course, and you have to have phantom power to run it, but most PA's have phantom power any more. It carries a 10-yr warranty unlike many other mics. Just save that documentation... and don't let it out of your sight.

I needed a mic that wouldn't need to be equed so heavily in the monitors when playing out live.

This mic out performed my trusty sm58 by leaps and bounds. Of course it's a condenser mic so it has a lot more guts than a 58. I used it live for the first time and was amazed at the tight cardiod pattern it produced allowing me to not have to cut all my high frequencies to kill feedback in the monitors. It has a smooth attack and lots of presence which really helped to save me from over singing. This is a phantom powered mic so that must be taken into consideration when purchsing it.

I like everything about this mic.

Professional looking.Gotta be carefull not to drop it though as the condeser mics are much more delicate than passive mics.

A great value, a strong performer and it helps your overall performance by letting you hear more of the frequencies that you need to be hearing especially in a rock situation where the sound levels are up there.

My bands budget wasn’t very high, and we wanted to have a high quality set up. After a mixing board and pro tools LE setup and Mics we didn't have much left for construction. But we managed to pull it off. We used to use a Sennhieser E865(great stage mic) but this has a glassier feel to it. Buy a pop filter! It mixes well with Sure sm57's and 58's but then again what doesn't? Use it with a Presonus TubePre for best results and don't be timid to use the pad feature, this mic pics up my neighbors lawnmower from underground. You get what you pay for, but its surprising more mic for the money than most think. Most reviews I read that were bad I think they just didn't take the time to learn how to use the mic right. Marshall put some time engineering it for budget people like me. I use the sennhieser for backup vocals and this for lead. I yell a lot into it and its withstood what I've tossed at it, but not at first when the levels were off. As far as voice over its got a nice range, lows are a little lacking it seemed to me but I'm a tenor. Its clear as a bell for money. If you don't have a lot of money, this mic will do an album or at least an EP no problem IF you dial it in for your vocalist. Thats half the battle


OVERALL OPINION


You should be using a preamp anyway, to get a good heated signal... a preamp will rid you of that cold digital feel you get when recording without one and you've got your phantom power. The mic is cheap, so just drop a little more for the preamp and wha-la. Buy this mic. It's a steal for the price

Electret microphone singing on stage, but also good in sound recording studio.
Very versatile, but especially useful for singing on stage. Much more regular frequency that the shure SM58. With the e865 you discover that your voice was serious and that it is possible to hear them! Also you forget 80% of the feedback problems of impact sound on stage (mic ...).
Micro perfect for alto voice, baritone or bass. Very good definition, rendering your joints also increases.
When I use a Shure, I feel like singing in a toy ...

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 6 years with no trouble. Very robust and reliable.

I used almost all the other microphones singing.

Full of quality, everything is good, I did not see a default (in this class of product). Its design is perfectly suited to its intended use.

I would do the same purchase with no problem. Quality / price ratio excellent.

OVERALL OPINION

I've had a few days and I had great fun with dj ... I bought APRS have tried several (via lease), such as c535 and AKG SHURE beta 87, and live recording. I am not a professional sound but I think he plays in the same range: a part of the "expensive Swiss" in Contents of micro ...

This is my first electrostatic spcial singing j'apprcie the Manir which modulate the sound of little micro depending how it is positioned. On the live, I have not tried in overhead but it seems that he plutt so well (in the words of a friend of mine, also owner of the box).
I also tried to registration: trs performance for voice recording (normal, you might say ...) but also as micro trs INTERESTED room (j 't have much bleuf.

The Sennheiser E 865 is one of two stage condenser microphones available from Sennheiser. Knowing Sennheiser, they do not fool around, and even this microphone, the dramatically cheaper one of the two, the other being the Sennheiser E 965 for almost three times the price, is an almost prohibitive $270. The interesting thing about the high end live vocal microphone market is that every company generally has its own pacing and gradient on which they place their microphones, so it turns out that the E 865 is actually an incredibly cheap microphone considering what it turns out to be up against.

First off, the microphone is beautiful and inspiring to sing in. It is microphones like these and the Audio Technica Artist Elite microphones, among some of the very high end ones, that inspire the singer to give the performance of his or her life. The E 865 itself is a supercardioid, and unbelievably impressive at off axis rejection. Its frequency response is from 40-20,000 Hz and it has an impressive ability to handle SPL's up to 150 dB.

In use, the E 865 is very interesting. This is because something in the way its engineered preserves the strange squish of a dynamic, but not in a way that would be viewed as a disadvantage. It works well to tame all of the other renegade frequencies, and makes the microphone silk and/or butter to sing through.

I cannot truly compare it with any other microphone because there is no real stage vocal condenser as good as this around the same price. There is a Blue Encore for a little bit less, but compared to the 865, the Encore loses that "special" that I first felt for it.

OVERALL OPINION

The Sennheiser E 865 is a fantastic microphone at a relatively incredibly low price. The closest microphones in price and class would be the Audio Technica Artist Elite dynamics, but while they are wonderful microphones, they simply function in a different class as the E 865. The best thing to do would be to figure out what you need on your voice, because even though these all sound good, some will make sure certain singers soar.

Electret microphone singing. A lot of bass compared to SM58, Beta 58, Audix OM3, E835; I possède.Bien for voice or slender aigus.je been using it for 4 years, coupled with a Envoice Mindprint. (For spoken voice to BARRY WHITE). For the song I prefer the Shure faces to stand out better instruments.Rapport quality / fair price (making Germanic)

+ Very serious-directional. I own dozens of dynamic microphones. Mic to have in its fleet (abundance does not harm)
