It is primarily a tool for remixing. It is pompous but aa t Designed as such. In practice, it is necessary to use the software included on the CD, dcoups load songs into tracks, enable / disable tracks want and have fun for a while. In use dtourne is a virtual double platinum use with Native Instruments Traktor 2 (and ending for other software like Virtual DJ) ...
Rackable: no. Connectivity: USB.
No automation, USB sync. One branch is installed and go crazy for smoky accessories.

UTILIZATION

Config gnrale relatively simple ... USB driver installation on the CD and shoo.
Usual functions simple and accessible: we have, for each plate, 8 pads dclenchement (diffrent activate parts of the song) and a ring Scratch that modulates the sound as a MK2 (almost lol).

The sounds are those of the ordinary ...

OVERALL OPINION

I use it occasionally for a few months. What is practical is that it is food via USB, so that ds wish to dtendre just for oneself or by mixing in an evening Birthday (or weddings, eh Barna) and you plug in 30 seconds we oprationnel.
I have not tried other before, but the Hercules DJ Console is more ergonomic because srement dedicates the virtual DJing ...
Ratio Q / P super, I bought it new at the cost of the opportunity!
If c'tait again I would take the srement Hercules, although more onreuse.

So it's just a USB interface, the software provides only ddier with.
However, it should be used with free software Dm2Midi (easily found)
which allows the convertire Dm2 in universal MIDI CONTROLLER (although the software still needs to have some amlioration) (must also midiyoke).

Concretely, we have:

10 simple buttons (1 4, 1 3, play, stop, rec)
16 buttons on the jog (2 x 8)
2 ct each button of the crossfade
2 buttons in mid-jog (2 x 1)
A button "norm" the milieu (the bar between the two jog)

UTILIZATION

It's a bit of that Blaisse ca.

If in terms of controller, there is what is needed, it is clear that not everything is of good quality trs. It's been plastoc, fragile.

The crossfader is zero, n'esprez not make your gross in sessions with devilish scratch. Run its course, whether left or right it moves into the void of any minimtres. It is not smooth at all.

The joystick is still not too bad, but few use this trend APRS DCAL its central axis.

The jogs, it is the same situation. Their rotation is not terrible, but they allow all the APRS same as tracktor scratch.

As against the 16 buttons are apreciation jog. Covered with a transparent rubber, they light up when pressed (ouaaaaaaaaa) and the fact that they are round offers ergonomics apprciable. against by the rubber covering the trend PForm.

For the other buttons ... is lower buttons.

OVERALL OPINION

Good concretely, while DJ who wants a practical tool, and robust prcis going his way.
Better and Save slam 200 500 euros.

The advantage of Dm2 is that it offers a lot of controllers, both notement jog to scratch, mix, and the joystick to grate effects for ...

The more meaningless ... it is why I am get one.

I'm also not dj, I know even less scratch, but doing live, I prenneur any controller. With dm2, I m'initie scratch, but mostly I have two jog, a joystick XY and a crossfade (more buttons) that my agrmente pcr 30 and my x-session controller they are not dot s.

Considering the price again, why deprive yourself?
ps: for those who have the dm2 but not the cd, the driver is not available on mixman.com, but mixman.nl (helpdesk section) ... for some reason.

The features are great, but it's a toy - so there are some drawbacks. First the crossfader at times gets sticky, and wont send acurrate messages. And the Joystick at the top is only good for big swirls, not percise movements. Plus the software that comes with it (Mixman studio) is almost completly useless compared to the products on the market today (Traktor, and others). On to the good parts! A piece of software called DM2MIDI(http://www.pdoom.ch/dm2/) (has popped up within the last year (Thanks pdoom!), that allows the DM2 unit to output MIDI msgs. This means that one can use it to control a broadrange of music/video software. So someone wrote a script (http://www.synth.biz/dm2/) to use traktor with it. Then another person posted to the DM2/MIDI user forum (www.dmtwo.tk) a script (with adding BOME's MIDI Translator into the mix) to scratch in traktor without having to hold the center lock buttons down (as previously required). It's really hard to find a similar device for the same cost/performance ratio. :P

UTILIZATION

The interface of the hardware is kick ass in terms of layout. Like I said before, the cost blows me away for what it can do with the right software. The only hinderences are the toy build, and the obviously subpro specs on the parts. Imagine if they just did an updated version with prolevel parts and usb 2.0 or Firewire, no stupid software, and priced it under $200. That would be fantastic.

It feels like a toy. Light plastic construction. I dont think it would last long under lots of use and abuse. Plus your friends will laugh at you because it looks like a toy, and cant absolutly replicate the vinyl expirience... but it come's pretty damn close. However, be prepared to buy a new one every couple of years if you use it heavily. Good thing they are cheap on Ebay!

Sound Quality? Depends on the software you use with this piece of inexpensive hardware. MixMan application that comes with the hardware: 5 DM2MIDI + N.I.'s Traktor 2.5: 10

OVERALL OPINION

I love it! I love it! DM2 + (DM2MIDI + B's MIDI Trans + Scripts) + Traktor = Hella Good Time! DM2MIDI was the kicker. Without it, I would have never had bought a DM2. I wanted no part in a $100 (at the time) unit that couldn't output MIDI. But ebay changed that. Now they go for ~$30 US. It really puts a new spin on doing mashups (since i was used to doing them the easy way via Acid 4). The DM2 is fantastic.
