    Silvertone 1471Published on 05/02/09 at 13:37
The Silvertone 1471 is a tube based guitar combo amplifier that is although small, packs a tremendous amount of punch. I believe this amp was made sometime in the 1960s. It has two 1/4 inch inputs to plug your guitar in and is overall pretty basic in set up.

    UTILIZATION

The configuration of the Silvertone 1471 is really easy to follow and anyone who knows how to use a guitar amp of any type should have no issues with this amp. It has only a few basic parameters in the form of knobs for volume level and tone control. Getting a good sound is easy because the amp has a great inherent sound and the simple parameters make controlling the sound easy. I've never had the manual for this am…

I've never had the manual for this amp, so I can't speak to how helpful it is or not, but this amp is easy enough to use that you don't really need it.

    SOUNDS

The sound quality of the Silvertone 1471 is pretty great, especially when you take into account how small the amp is. It sounds great for clean tones as well as overdriven, but won't give you a real heavy distortion, just more of a tube overdrive that sounds really cool. I usually use this amp with a Fender Strat for recording or practicing, and I probably wouldn't use it for live shows because its probably not loud enough for most gigs. Overall, the Silvertone 1471 is an awesome sounding little amp.

    OVERALL OPINION

I've been using the Silvertone 1471 for about three years and it is one of the best amps of this size that I can think of for recording. I'm always happy with the sounds I get from this amp and would highly recommend picking one up if you can find them used if you are looking for a small practice or recording amp. The price is usually pretty reasonable, but they are somewhat hard to find, so if you come across one at a good price, scoop it up!
