The MXR M101 Phase 90 is an analog phase shifting guitar pedal. It has a 1/4 inch input and a 1/4 input output and is the easiest pedal in the world to use - no exaggeration. It is not rackable as it is a stomp box.

UTILIZATION

The configuration of the MXR Phase 90 couldn't be easier. It just has a single knob to control the speed of the phaser. Simply turn the knob until you get a sound you like - turning it all the way down will result in a simple, subtle phaser sound, while turning it up all the way will give you almost a rotary sound. It is simple to use and easy to get a quick, great sound out of. I don't have a manual for this but I don't think it is necessary considering how easy to use this pedal is.

SOUND QUALITY

The sound quality of the MXR M101 Phase 90 is quite good. Since there is only one knob and one thing to control, it isn't the most versatile phase shifter in the world, but is satisfactory and is great at the sounds in does make. I have only use this with electric guitar, but would work okay with any electronic instrument you wanted to use it with. The tone is really thick and juicy and is overall a great sounding phaser. My only complaint is that I would like to have more controls.

OVERALL OPINION

I've been using the MXR M101 Phase 90 for about two years and I have found it to be a great sounding phase shifting guitar pedal. The sound quality is top notch, as we have come to expect from most MXR pedals. While this isn't close to as versatile as a Boss PH-3 phase shifter, it will do the job if you are looking for a good sounding phaser at a good price. However, I would probably recommend the Boss PH-3 over this pedal because it has a ton of more controls. This being said, you can't get the thick phaser sound that the Phase 90 will give you on the PH-3. It is just a matter of personal preference and I would encourage those interested in getting a phase shifter to look into this pedal as well as some of the others on the market.
