Set of three single coil pickups for Start (normal tell me you saw their name ...). Good move into the heart of the matter: Irish Tour, there is growing Rory Gallagher!

The bridge pickup: power extraordiaire, very powerful, not loud, a lot of fishing, the harmonics out of this world ...
micro intermediate may be the worst of the three, a little timid next to the power of the other two ... especially useful on the position 2 and 4 when it is coupled to the other microphones (including the bridge, the best position for 5!)
the neck pickup, a nice round SOND which does not fail to remember that we are growing the explosive blues rock ...

In the end it's very simple, these mics are great for those who love the blues, blues rock and other derivatives in the 60's and 70's. Found in its clean strat personality without caricature ... In full, its a very dry and generous to Rory Gallagher ... I swear to play the intro to the Million Miles Away Blues Junior is a real treat!!
A little anecdote to conclude, I had heard of these mics by chance and I was told a store, custom shop, 14 rue de Douai in Pigalle (www.customshop.fr). I come to the microphones cushy, I tested on a grate of expo ... and revelation, rory is emerging as the notes that I start. In the end I leave with a strat tailored and of course equipped with the famous set ...

Value for money just right (about € 250 the set) taking into account that these pickups are hand made ... A really great set! I take just a small point for the micro intermediate good but below the other two.

Bare Knuckle pickups is a small boutique pickup maker from England. They are mostly known for their custom made heavy metal pickups which they sell with a ton of options offered. You can choose your own magnets, covers and wires when you order from them. They are really and old school custom shop when it comes to pickups. They also offer great production models that encompass the quality that they are known for. The Bare Knuckle Irish Tour set is a set of their hot rodded single coil pickups. They are more known for their humbucking pickups but if you can make a good humbucker making a good single coil is a piece of cake. These pickups are voiced to be like a set of hot rodded strat pickups. These pickups get that Texas tone Fender tries to do with many of their pickups but rarely are able to get it. These pickups have that Texas tone in spades. They are ultra overwound and can push just about any amp but when they push your amp they still retain their vintage feel to them. This is pretty rare when it comes to hot pickups. Hot pickups tend to get super compressed in their sound but these remain wide open like a set of single coils should. These pickups have over the top low end twang. These pickups will really make your strat sound like its on steroids. They will give you a fat tone while still retaining the single coil chime and clarity. Since these pickups are designed to go in strats they are voice for alder guitars. They are pretty neutral in their voicing so if you put them in a neutral wood like alder you will get a good result. Putting these in a brighter wooded guitar may cause some bad sounds. If you are looking for a set of hot rodded single coils with a custom shop level of quality the Bare Knuckles Irish Tour set is one of the best ones on the market.

The Irish Tour is a vintage hot pickup that Bare Knucke Pickups offers. The pickup is a two conductor pickup and comes with an Alnico V magnet and staggered pole pieces for that ultra vintage look. It also has various different colors you can choose from.

The Irish Tour set is for people who are looking for that almost Stevie Ray Vaughan kind of tone. They have that ultra overwound kind of tone that really overdrives an amp without sounding too modern and aggressive. The low end on these things is absolutely amazing. They’re super fat sounding, and the low end just seems to really bloom. The midrange is slightly scooped, and that helps keep everything clear sounding as opposed to being overly boxy and narrow. The treble is bright with some nice spank, but it’s not terribly brittle.

The calibrated set seems to work great for strats, but I also found that these pickups pair nicely with humbuckers in the bridge. When you have a humbucker in the bridge, the split tones with the humbucker sound great. It definitely has that super vintage overdrive sound with that well known “quack” going on. These can also work nicely with the hotter singles such as the Trilogy or the Sinner. It all depends on what you’re going for in terms of sound.

Since these are strat style pickups, I’ve only tried them in alder. They seem to be suited for neutral sounding woods like alder or maybe basswood. However, they’d probably work just as nicely in mahogany or swamp ash.

If you’re looking for that SRV kind of tone from the BKP lineup, you’ll definitely want to check these pickups out. If you find that these don’t have enough output or are not powerful enough for you, check out the Trilogy or the Sinner.
