The RTOM Moongel Damper Pads are small like gels that are for dampening drums with. I don’t know how many other types of moongel there is out there, but RTOM’s is the kind that I’ve used mostly. The studio I work at has a few cases of this on hand always, as it’s really important to have since we do a lot of live drum tracking. There’s really nothing better than moongel to help kill the ringing or sustain on snare and tom tom drums. You simply place or tape these gels right on top of the drum head to help dampen up the sound. It works differently on different drums of different sizes and all that, but you just have to mess around with the location of the gel a bit to get your aimed results. I don’t know how many exactly come in a small tube of RTOM’s Moongel Damper Pads, but there should be a few of them and it’s great that you can use them over and over. They’ll start to lose a little bit of their grip over time the more you use them, but taping them down will help this. I’m also not really sure what kind of price a jar of these would run you, but I can’t imagine it being all that expensive. I’ve used moongel from other brands in the past but none that I can really remember or recommend. In my experience, the RTOM Moongel Damper Pads seem to do the job as well as any other moongel pads I’ve used in the past. I’d like to get in a room and shoot them out with another type, but this really isn’t necessary as long as these are doing the trick, and I think most will find that these do as well of a job as you can ask for…
