The ASR-10 sampler is the last of the famous American firm which became widely known with the Mirage and then the Eps 16 and 16 +.
5 octave keyboard PolyKey / 2 to 16 MB Ram / 30 Sampling and 44.1 Khz / 50 Effects / Resampling Direct / integrated 16-track sequencer / Scsi - optional on the keyboard version (sniff) / ...

UTILIZATION

Usage is relatively simple, fast and intuitive. The huge manual that is very rarely need to be consulted. Ergonomics has been studied in Ensoniq! J'vous to say. Yet few buttons to very many functions. Using the sequencer is an example of simplicity and efficiency. Ditto for the sampling or application of effects. The creation of loops is a breeze with a little practice. This sampler of 1992 is comparable to competitors in this area even today.
My only regret: that damn 1.44 MB floppy drive that I can not obviously be replaced by nothing more powerful (ZIP, CD, HD) because I do not have the famous SP-3 SCSI interface that was an option. Those who have one to offer me are welcome;)

SOUNDS

What you say? You save yourself all you want in this gem.
We speak often of the "big sound Ensoniq". I can not tell you too, I have tried as Ensoniq. However the brand has a very famous and important library of sounds available on the Internet and then party the benefit of the sampler is that it is unlimited. In addition to the happy owners of a SCSI interface (sniff), they can no longer access the sound Akai and Roland with the OS version 3. And now everything is converted from one format to another while ... Only limit to 16 MB of memory that are "only" a little over 4 minutes at 44.1 Khz.

OVERALL OPINION

I have this wonder since its release in late 1992, I wanted to buy an EPS16 +, but this new model was coming so ... I broke my piggy bank. I think it is still great today. And as I rediscovered because I acquired from quality materials. No more than 2 micro balls. I have a microphone that allows me to realize quality recordings, a sound card that allows me to put any input what I want and I just received yesterday my 16 MB from the States. Is more than.
Seriously, even today after the evolution of PC, virtual instruments, sequencers ...
he always manages both the ASR and did not fade before the competition. It is a real "Home Studio" on its own: sampling / sequencing / effects.
My only regret is not having SCSI and my fear is that it breaks down: when to repair this gem today and at what price?
