Gibson bought my first in 2013, made in the USA in 2011.
It has 2 P-90 pickups (single coil). : Great pickups!
It has a set neck Mahogany, 4 knobs (volume + tones), and also a 3-position selector.
Finally, it is composed of 22 frets, mechanical and Nickel.

UTILIZATION

I can tell you that this guitar is very practical. In addition, it is extremely lightweight (3.8 kg), which gives a certain ease when he was around his neck for a few hours.
The handle is very nice because it is very thin and provides no braking when moving on it.
In addition, the shape is typical of the 1960s, which reinforces the side "Rock'n Roll" of this guitar-shaped horns.
The last frets are very fun to play, and access to higher notes is very easy, especially in the hollow between the horn and the handle.
Finally, it quickly gained a good sound with this guitar (P-90), even on an amp for beginners!

SOUNDS

When I plugged this guitar on my amp Roland 40W and I played a big E chord, the sound of P-90 hallucinated me ... There there in the belly of this guitar tremendous power !
I bought this guitar for her, both powerful and rock (like Louis Bertignac), but also for hard rock (like AC / DC or Led Zeppelin).
When I place the 3-position selector on "Treble", the sound is pure rock and greasy; and when placed on "Rhythm", the sound is still fat but with a bluesy touch, like the sound of Warren Haynes plays the blues when: it is his own. Can be adjusted with the buttons "Tone", and I get by putting 0, sound more Santana.
Wah-Wah pedal between the guitar and the amp is great, no need other effects that would disrupt its wonderful P-90 located on the guitar!
I prefer this small wonder, the raw sound of the bridge pickup for a pure rock sound that sounds very good!

OVERALL OPINION

I use this guitar for about 9 months, and my expectations were met!
I have not tried other models before I buy this guitar, but this one that best suited me, and that's what I wanted her absolutely.
The feature I prefer this guitar is its lightness, its rock and pleasant hyper handle.

UTILIZATION

Properly adjusted the handle is a highway! It is very precise and access to treble is super easy, I love it.
The lack of patent fact that the hand slides over the handle without gliomas so dificult and it makes the guitar more lightweight.

Plugged into my Vox AC-15 as in my Twin reverb it sounds god of fire! micro are vintage and very versatile for the price it's amazing.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for over a year and it always surprises me. I have many guitars and I used to play with high-end guitars (Gibson, Fender, Gretsch). I bought this SG for p-90, for its looks and its attractive price. Since I do not move the settings, such as my Gibson 335 went three times to the maker ..
the price / quality ratio is unbeatable. For me its only flaw is the lack of varnished as it is more exposed to shocks but it makes the guitar lighter and faster.
I try SG Faded and is well above really nothing to do finish level, sound and playing comfort

UTILIZATION

The handle is not a disaster ... I'm not picky, I had one special successively, a standard, 61 reissue, a supreme pleasure to finally find my Classic on P 90. I wanted to buy this guitar and second guitar on the paper I was ready to order. While in Paris I tried the guitar before the check and the disappointment was huge, I did not say that to a SG.

Personally I recommend the Classic P90 or P90 standard, the finish is much better bill.

UTILIZATION

Ahhhh .... the handle I bought this guitar for two things: the stick and microphones. This model has the handle 60 slim type, with ease. If we add the fineness of the handle to its reduced length (compared to a Fender), we can more easily pick up the frets far with the little finger. The 22 frets are accessible without twisting the hand, the guitar is light, in short, is happiness.

And the second strong point is the P90 pickups. In rock, there are guitars that recognizes 100 meters, and are distinguished from others. Those with P90 are those here. Black Sabbath is the P90. The Who (music expert) is the P90. Phone also. Ben GIBSON this will sound like that.

OVERALL OPINION

This guitar at this price, it's really amazing. Obviously, the finish is silent on certain things: it seems that it was painted latex with a roller. But if you for a guitar that's just something that should sound, it is for you. If you like beautiful coats of varnish and the wood grain inlay, you'll be disappointed. Against by the stuff is good. Micro have character, the knobs work well (this is not the on / off), the hardware is quality.
I have not put any rating, because it makes no sense, I am not impartial, this guitar is the one I prefer the ones I've had. It is far from being the smartest I've owned, but it's most endearing and the only one on which I still play

The 60s were a pretty awesome era for music gear, and it was also an interesting point in time for Gibson as a company. The 60s and 70s are actually the guitars you mainly hear in recordings, but since everyone gets all bent up over the whole Norlin thing, Gibson decided to do a 60s reissue instead of the 70s, I guess. The guitar features a mahogany body, a mahogany neck with a rosewood fretboard, 22 medium frets, dot inlays, a hard tail bridge, two P90s, two volumes, two tones and a three way switch.

UTILIZATION

The frets on this were actually pretty good. Gibson isn't exactly the best company when it comes to fretjobs, but these were very solid. I was able to get some nice action without any fretting out. Granted, I had to tweak the guitar a bit to make it play the way I wanted, but it came out pretty good. The nut could have been cut better as it was kinda binding on the G string, but I was able to temporarily fix that with some nut sauce. The guitar had the standard neck dive issue that SGs normally have. It's almost as if every single SG has this issue. In fact, I dont' think I've personally come across one that played normally.

SOUNDS

The P90s in this were very good sounding. The bridge was aggressive, but it wasn't over the top. If you've never played a P90 before, it's like a thicker single coil sound. You can get a really cool blues tone with this, especially once you start adding some gain. I plugged this thing in a JCM800 2203, threw a tubescreamer in front, and it was tonal heaven. I was able to get everything from BB King stuff to Zakk Wylde. The P90s actually did a pretty good job when it came to getting hard rock/metal tones, but they can't really get much past the old school 80s metal. Don't expect these to do death metal, although some guys out there are actually making them work.

OVERALL OPINION

The guitar is a very cool guitar, and it happens to be one of my personal favorites when it comes to SGs. The P90s are great, but I know they'll turn off a lot of people from this guitar. If you're unsure about P90s, I would urge you to at least try them to see what they're like. You may be pleasantly surprised. I know I was when I first picked up a P90 guitar way back when.

UTILIZATION

I should say up front that this was on sale and that's why I bought it. I'm not normally a fan of the SG body style. It kind of seems neck heavy most of the time and my body doesn't shape to it very well. For some reason I feel like I have to play rhythm on one, which is bad for my style. But hey old habits die hard. I really like the neck shape on this one and it definitely has the 60's vibe down. Actually my had had one of the original 60's SG guitars with the same finish and I can say this one feels very similar. The playability is there. It's very much a fully featured guitar and not budget by any means despite what the price might tell you.

SOUNDS

I'm not sure what specific model P-90's are on here but they sound very good. Really dirty and raunch. I believe they are the same ones that were on the limited run of les paul specials that came out last year. In my opinion these sound way better with p90's than humbuckers...it's just something about the guitar. I really feel like I can jam out when I play this through a cranked amp. I think a lot of P90 guitars give that feeling. This is a true plug and play kinda guitar. No bells and whistles.

OVERALL OPINION

Yeah you don't get any of the fancy detailing on the higher priced models but this is every bit the SG that you could want. Plus you don't really have to worry about messing up the beautiful finish or hardware. This is a real beater axe as far as I'm concerned. And I have no problem taking it on tour. The tuners are solid and everything seems fine. I really recommend you pick this up if you want a no frills SG on the cheap.

The Gibson '60s SG Tribute was made after the launch and subsequent super-fast sell out of the Les Pauls of similar nature. It combines some great features into a well priced and great feeling/sounding guitar. This particular model boasts a really classic natural finish that harkens back to the days of when things were still called "groovy" and when Hendrix was still playing the music, man.

It's made in the USA and features a mahogany body and neck, a rosewood fretboard with 22 frets, Kluson tuners, a tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece and two really awesome Gibson P90 pickups wired as a typical SG would be with two volumes, two tones and a 3 way toggle switch to select the pickups. Definitely a guitar that would be right at home in 1971 as it is right here in 2011.

UTILIZATION

The SG is a pretty ergonomic ax for sure. It's light, sits well on the body and really allows you to fly around when you're playing. They're not quite featherweight, which is probably a plus. I know that when I'm playing a Gibson I like it to feel solid and secure, which this one does without completely killing the ol' shoulders and back. The upper fret access is good on these guitars... superior to something like a Les Paul due to the double cutaway and smaller neck joint.

Getting a good sound out of this guitar is pretty simple. The thin finish combined with the raunchy P90 pickups really is a recipe for good tone and Gibson makes it with just the right extra bit of mojo... groovy man!

SOUNDS

I've tried this guitar through a myriad of different rigs. It definitely sounds most at home on a British voiced amp such as a Marshall or Orange, or even an American imitation like the Mesa Royal Atlantic. The clean tones are really cool... they're a bit raunchier than a typical humbucker, but they also have that brightness that one might associate with a Strat or Tele... pretty cool! The neck pickup works very well for blues or R&B stuff, and the bridge pickup is a funk machine. Putting both pickups on together is like hearing the love child of a Tele and Les Paul.. country twang with mahogany midrange tones.

Kicking in some drive is where the fun starts to begin. I've always dug P90s for their awesome sustain and tone and I love how these pickups react in this guitar. They take on a really thick and monster vibe that is like a perfect blend of a Tele and a Les Paul Junior or Special... excellent for punk rock or proto metal. Using the neck pickup yields in some Sabbath-y textures that would make any doom metal fan fall to their knees, Wayne's World style.



OVERALL OPINION

All in all I think the Gibson SG '60s Tribute is a really cool and classy guitar. It sells for about $850 new which is a killer deal considering the quality and tone that you get for your cash. It's a limited run, so I'm not sure how many will be floating around for sale in 10 years. It seems like the type of guitar people will buy and play as it just keeps sounding better and better each time I play one. Definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of SGs, P90s, or a good ol' fashioned raunchy guitar sound.

UTILIZATION

The SG has always seemed to be a very light and ergonomic instrument to me. It sits on the body well and they are usually light in weight. This guitar is no exception, and because it has the '60s neck profile, I feel that the body and neck match together better size-wize than it would if if had a '50s neck profile. The upper fret access is golden on these guitars... much like the PRS' I've tried.

Getting a good sound out of this guitar is really simple. It has P90s in it, which I'm a huge fan of and would argue that if you can't get a good sound out of a P90 loaded guitar then I'm not sure what to say! They're like the perfect step between the bright and jangly single coil, and the dark and complex sounding humbucker. Overtones just leap from the pickups, and combined with the all mahogany construction of this guitar, it just makes for a very thick and juicy sounding instrument that works well for many different styles.

SOUNDS

I've tried this guitar through various Fender and Mesa Boogie amps and can safely say that it's more than a one trick pony. The clean tones are an excellent blend of the bright and jangly mixed with some darker and thicker sounds to create a wonderful tone that's unique and all its own. It works well for jazzier/bebop lines as well as comping chords quite well, especially though a good Fender amp. The combination of both pickups is prime time for country pickin' and the bridge pickup has that perfect amount of bite for styles like rockabilly and surf guitar.

The drive tones are thick and viscous all around. It sounds like a Gibson that is trying to respond like a Strat and that marriage brings to the fore a really thick and chewy, yet still bright and distinct drive tone that is PERFECT for 70s and 80s hard rock flavours as well as some doom metal and even some modern rock. The guitar has a great underlying smooth quality to it as well, so lead lines just sing for days... add some echo and reverb and it's perfection.

OVERALL OPINION

All in all I feel that the Gibson SG '60s Tribute is a great axe. It doesn't look like too much from a distance, but in my experience some of the greatest sounding guitars ever were the plainest of them all. It combines that understated yet subtly classic look with a monster set of tones and excellent playability. For the $800 or so these sell for new, you cannot go wrong. If you want a killer P90 guitar but missed the boat on the limited edition LPs, you might want to take a look at these before they're gone gone gone!

I really like the tone of the SG guitar primarily because of its warm smooth time and driving percussive attack. The P90's really had a good element to this guitar as well as a bright but still warm tone. The finish on this guitar is a nitro lacquer finish this balances out allows more resonance of the guitar. This is a better lacquer that a poly finish wood.

You have 22 frets and all 22 of those frets are easily reachable due to the carved out cut out of the SG body sheet. The neck is a 12 inch radius which is very comfortable but yet sit very similar to the Gibson Les Paul neck. It has its own tone but still takes a good chunk of its interpretation from the Les Paul.

OVERALL OPINION

I highly recommend this guitar if you're looking for a good inexpensive guitar for under $1000 I can get you a solid town for digging and for recording. I knew you can find this guitar online or at some guitar retailers for about $799. This is an excellent price for a very usable guitar and extremely versatile tone to boot. Much like the Les Paul Studio guitars these are much better priced at the budgeted consumer.

I have been a fan of Gibson guitars since I first learned how to play the guitar. They have continued to be one of the best sounding guitar builders in the world. I am particular to the Les Paul guitar but even the SG finds a special place in my heart. The tone of SG so takes a lot from the gives Les Paul it's still has its own thing going on. It is a classic reach warm tone that sits very well in the music. If you've ever listen any AC/DC album and you've heard this guitar. The P90 pickups are one of my favorite pick ups in a mahogany guitar. They elaborate the natural integrity of a wood and it gives a good blend of clean and sharp distinct warm tones.

This is an easy guitar to get the good to feel from. It doesn't take a long time for someone to really connect with the feeling and sound of this guitar. One of the best things that I like about this particular guitar is the white paint coat on the body. It really looks like you vintage guitar from the 60s. Since this is a 60s tribute guitar from Gibson. I would like that vintage white look. It really blends well with the nature and character of this guitar. If I had to pick one color to match the 60 sound of the Gibson SG it wouldn't be red but rather can vintage white. I love sound of this guitar was a high gain very loud Marshall style amplifier. The mix with this amplifier in this guitar is exactly what Pete Townsend was looking for when he first grabbed the Gibson SG. Put an Ibanez tube screamer in front of this amp this guitar and you will get a great classic rock sound.

OVERALL OPINION

You can find these guitars for right around $799. This is a steal of the price for what you get out of this guitar. I highly recommend this guitar to anyone is looking for the 60 sound and the vintage five of course with the vintage look with white vintage paint job. I have all of the guitar is the Gibson has put out an recent years this is one of the best looking and best sounding guitars I have come across.

This sound is very unique and extremely different from the normal Gibson Les Paul tone. It is a versatile and very playable guitar that allows its use to reach the upper fretboard with ease. This is a guitar that is a tribute back to the original SG I came out almost 50 years ago. I absolutely love the town of a Gibson SG P 90 pick up installed. This is the kind of guitar that I am used on numerous recording sessions personally. I love the black ebony look of this guitar matched rosewood fretboard. The P90 pick ups are at at an outstanding pick up to drive a good clean distorted sound. This guitar is very well balanced and warm . The balance of this guitar is very good as well being at the price point that Gibson is asking for this guitar.

I love the sound of this guitar match with a good Marshall style amplifier. The two just blend and mix perfectly to my ears. I wouldn't trade that tone for anything.

OVERALL OPINION

You can find these guitars new online or at your local guitar shop retailer for right around the price of $799. This is a great deal for what you get out of this guitar. The P 90s are great pick ups and I wouldn't change them unless you are upgrading to seymour Duncan P90 pickup. I recommend this guitar to anyone who doesn't want the girth and thickness of a Gibson Les Paul tone but still wants that articulate mahogany wood driven guitar sound. This is a great guitar and a fairy comparable priced guitar for the budgeted consumer.

YEah the 60's were a time of great reflection and conscience ignorance. However, all those drugs and debauchery brought us some really good music. So thanks all you stupid jackass hippies for allowing music to grown to the place is eventually became.

During that period though we had some great sounding bands and some genius amps builders and guitars builders just starting to inch their way on to the main stream. Some like Gibson and Fender had been doing is for years and exploring new ideas, perhaps with the help of drugs..who knows. All in all is brought items such as the classic SG guitar that is a formation of the Les Paul.

I have always like the sound of P90's. They have a real organic and full tone to them that make them just magical. This is a nice addition to the sound of this guitar in general. The Sg has a familiar tone to its originator the Gibson Les Paul but has its own thing going on as well. First off you get a lighter body wood so the the sound is going to be a Gibson tone but a little more crisper and focused in my opinion. Next you have the ability to reach the upper register and play the higher frets with ease where as the Gibson Les Pal would struggle a bit getting to the 20th fret.

I love the way this guitar sound and fits in the music that I play. The tone is just sweet and th feel of the guitar while different to the Les Paul has a nice comfort that O am used to form playing Les Paul's for years.

OVERALL OPINION

These are very affordable guitars for the working ma. At new you can pick these guitars up for right at around $799. That is a steal of a price for the features you get with this tone machine. I would recommend playing this to get a feel for the sound before buying. These are a little different than normal single coils and humbucker and different than a Strat or Les Paul.

Back in the early 60s when the Gibson Les Paul was long gone and when you asked for a Les Paul they handed you an SG you could get your Les Paul/SG in two flavors; PAF's or P-90s. PAFS were the new things on the scene. They were quiet and mellow but some people wanted the noisy snarling P-90s in their guitar. Some of the heaviest records of the time were recorded on guitars with P-90s. From Mississippi Queen to Black Sabbath P-90s were the shoutier choice when it came to pickups. Gibson is now putting out a decently priced tribute to these early 60s SG's that came with the old school pickups. These guitars are called the 60s Tribute SG's. This guitar is great old school SG. It has the early small pickguard that I prefer on my SG's. This guitar has a 60s profile neck so it is nice and thin and fast. It has dual Gibson P-90. Each pickup has its own volume and tone control and are switched with a 3 way switch. It has 22 frets on a rosewood fretboard with trapezoid inlays. The headstock has 6 Gibson Kluson tuners with a 14-1 ratio.

UTILIZATION

One of the reasons this guitar replaced the Gibson Les Paul, along with it being cheaper to make it was also much easier to play. The SG was designed to give much better upper fret access than the Les Paul offered and it does. The 60s profile neck also helps playability. The 50s Gibson neck profile is very big and some people find it hard to play. This design gives it a few problems. The early SG's like this one have weak neck joints. The neck joint on SG models is very weak compared to Les Pauls or even bolt on guitars. This weak neck joint makes some SG's prone to going out of tune. The neck joints on the new SG have all but fixed this problem. The design still has some quirks that you may not be use to. With the neck mounted so far out on the body and the body being so thin and light, SG's are prone to neck dive. When playing an SG standing up you may find yourself holding up the neck due to this awkward balance between the neck and the body. This can be solved by moving the strap peg to the upper horn like on Tony Iommi's SG guitar. With the P-90 pickups you will get some extra noise from them since they are single coils but this is just part of the vintage p-90s experience. This guitar has Gibsons worn finish. These are just thing nitro finishes that will wear easily to give the guitar a more vintage look. If you are use to poly finishes you will notice that this guitar will age very quickly in terms of looks.

SOUNDS

The P-90 sound has awesome bite. Tony Iommi for years used P-90 style pickups in his guitar and he put out some of the heaviest tones of the era. I think if you are looking to play heavy music on a vintage style guitars the P-90s would be a better choice over vintage humbuckers. These pickups are not just for rocking you can get a great jazzy or blues tone from them. They have the clear bottom end of a humbucker with the crisp top of a single coil. This crisp top is what adds the bite and sizzle to the heavy tones when you are playing heavy music.

OVERALL OPINION

I hope Gibson makes this guitar for a while. If you play mostly lefty like me when a big company comes out with a nice lefty guitar that isnt twice as much as the right handed version it gets your attention.
