LTD MH-400

The MH400 is part of the MH series of LTD models that ESP makes. The 400ish series is an upgraded version of the 50 series, but the 400 is still priced at the budget model market. The guitar features a mahogany body with a quilted maple top (I think it's a veneer, but I'm not entirely sure), set maple neck with a rosewood fretboard, 24 extra jumbo frets, two EMG humbuckers, a licensed floyd rose bridge, small upper block inlays with a big inlay on the 12th fret, binding, one volume, one tone and a three way switch.

UTILIZATION

LTD did a pretty good job with this, considering the price. The fret ends aren't totally finished, and the frets aren't quite as level as the regular series, or even the 1000 series can be. However, it's still a very well put together guitar. The set neck also eliminates the tolerance issue that some of the lower end bolt-ons suffer from. I like that they're not using basswood like the 50 series, too. That's a big plus, especially since mahogany with a maple neck is one of my favorite combinations of wood. Binding isn't bad, but it seems somewhat cheap. However, it's to be expected on this kind of guitar.

SOUNDS

The sound is actually really good considering that these come with real EMGs. That's a huge plus, in my opinion. There were a few I played that sounded dull no matter what, but most sounded pretty good for the most part. The 81 in the bridge has an awesome bite, and works great for heavy metal. The 85 gives that super fat and powerful lead sound in the neck, so you can do some sick legato runs with ease. It's a bit "stuck" in the heavy metal realm, in my opinion. However, it's not an issue if you're playing a heavier style. I doubt most people who are going to be playing blues or country would look at this guitar to begin with.

OVERALL OPINION

Given the price and features of this guitar, it's actually pretty surprising. The fretwork isn't up to the Standards, but that's to be expected on a budget model. The EMGs, mahogany body, binding and whatnot all work to help make this guitar a really good buy for someone who wants a solid guitar without spending a ton of coin. The main thing I'd do would be to give it a nice fret level and replace the licensed floyd with an OFR.

USE

the first grip I have on this not shinning its dry (without amp) ..
the varnish on the handle just requires time to adapt, but there is nothing Gnant No, it even causes long some comfort ..

... By against clear sound it is quite impressive, warm and round, lens on the most aigues..il Notes makes a sound very pleasant, even if it is far from micro to be the best for this guitar.

UTILIZATION

Viewpoint playing comfort, it is enjoyable to play trs. The neck is super low as prs ESP M-II or KH-602 (for those who test. It is not as flat, thin and wide as a handle Jackson or Ibanez but it's even handle highway was not a log home in Gibson's hands ...

His point of view, I play in a Randall RG75SC (thus the transistor) with a GT2 Global Warming for the whole. When I plugged the very first time, I t bluff. The output level is standard! The EMG 81 is great on both channels of my disto. It should trs well for the big rock and metal (all styles). As against a good old rock I change position immediately handle. I did put a EMG89 (so splitable) in the neck position for maximum versatility. L is still beautiful ... This microphone is almost everything! The good old rock to blues (I would not even Jazz especially with Randall). With the simulation of my Fender GT2 and EMG SA, you get a sound close to a trs strato while with the simulation and EMG 85 Marshall was a good well cool rock vintage trs ! Regarding the rumor of active pickups (lack of heat blabla) is false. I admit that sounds a slightly less hot (especially the 81 but it is not what I asked) that an old but well rounded liability suits me perfectly because I prfre the precision in the sound. Any fawn, the EMG 89 is doing well and trs is no shortage of heat (ca dpend each ca me for me).
So if you leave the stick in 81 is not great so I put 8 and 9.5 with the 89 is not as round as I thought ... (Even if I ca not drang)

OVERALL OPINION

Résumé for this guitar is versatile and trs not type at all! Okay it's a LTD, but even when we approach a lot of ESP! (I test of ESP so I do not do it)
The series The series as 400 Deluxe (which has a finish tape over the eye and an original Floyd for more than 200) are really INTERESTED in this price range. I also test the DKMG in Jackson which is more or less competition from the scratch (the DKMG is a little less CHRE) ca Well I have nothing to DSOL fans of Jackson ... Ditto for the Ibanez RG 900, violin making, especially finish and sound are well below ...
For 900, I have a fantastic guitar super versatile type and not with a great look (that's me you see) ...
