The only difference between the K-271 MKII and the K-271 is the contents of the carton. Indeed, in the bundle of K-271 MKII found the headset, a mini-mini jack cable XLR 3 meter cable another 5 meters spiral and a second pair of velvet ear (those on the headphones are made of leather).
I have a K-240 monitor for 5-6 years and I was looking for a headphone the same color but with a lower impedance to use it on any headphones. Indeed, the K-240 monitor with its impedance of 600 ohms necessarily demand a powerful headphone amp to begin to hear something. On an MP3 player or the direct output of the sound card is not even worth means almost nothing.
But I have just purchased a pair of speakers M-Audio Studiophile AV40. For her: nothing to say, in contrast to their headphones: they lack a lot of power. Even at the bottom, with the K-240 M, I heard nothing. Also, when I plug in my headphones and I ride the volume of my speakers, they shall instead continue to remain silent out of his (mostly acute), which is not very practical when you want to record something next (repisse). So I bought a K-271 MKII to address this problem of power. And then I had a pretty nasty surprise, and despite the impedance of 55 ohms announced, I always have to push the volume of AV40 thoroughly to have a powerful enough in his headphone. The fault is due to either AV40 or the K-271 is a bit of both (I would opt for the third hypothesis).
In short, other than that, the sound:
He failed a bit at first (as in the K-240), the sound is flat, neutral, and we would like to hear a little more beautiful sounding bass though, sound a bit more loudness. But after a few hours of listening is a joy, really means everything and even infra bass. We hear the details previously unsuspected, reverbs, small delays on vocals, cymbals a little behind ... As for the stereo, it's perfect. This remains a headphone, so you do not feel this "curtain" you can have with the speakers but we can discern a perfect pan of each track.
Finally, to mix, this headset is an excellent complement of speakers, we hear details that can not hear with the speakers and especially when making a mix that completely removes the headphone and the headphone, it is not all surprised by the result of pregnancy. I tried the Sony MDR 7506 and when I withdrew to go to the speakers I had the impression that they were desperately short of high-mids, an adaptation time was needed each time they passed the headphone to the speakers through headphones or speakers. With the K-271 is not the case at all, which sounds in the headphones sound on the speakers and you can spend all the time from one to another with no time to adapt.
About the automatic switch that cuts the sound in the headphones when you do not wear it: this system is very well done and very sensitive, I do not think this can be problematic even after several years of wear. This should not be afraid to push to buy another headphone.
Last thing, the K-271 on an MP3 player, large lack of power, it was nice to push the volume up, it is sorely lacking gain in the headphone.
In the end, these headphones would be perfect if it does not require me to invest in a headphone amp that I would not even know or connect to my M-Audio audiophile who has only one stereo output and RCA, the latter being already occupied by my speakers. So I'll put a respectable 8 out of 10.
