    Overpriced and Overrated

    Ovation 1761Published on 01/11/11 at 20:16
This is an acoustic electric guitar made by Ovation, an American company so it was made in the USA. There are controls for volume and bass and treble on it. Three are 15 frets before the cutaway and a few afterwards. It has a spruce body with a rosewood fretboard. The pickup inside it an Ovation thinline.

    UTILIZATION

This is a really easy guitar to play, it certainly feels good. I can play a lot of things on this guitar that I can't play with others and I find that that's one of the main draws of this guitar, besides being acoustic electric. UTILIZATION

This is a really easy guitar to play, it certainly feels good. I can play a lot of things on this guitar that I can't play with others and I find that that's one of the main draws of this guitar, besides being acoustic electric. This is a really light guitar in general so it's easy to play and carry around. It does feel a little thin when I play it and that transfers to the sound, so its definitely not the easiest guitar to get a good sound out of it. It requires some finesse to make it sound good.

    SOUNDS

For how expensive this guitar is it sure doesn't sound it. The guitar really has a dull, lifeless sound to it that is hard to ignore. It has no brilliance on the high end, no warmth on the midrange or low end, and basically no life. I can't believe how bad it is. It's not any better when it's plugged in either! I'd guess plugged in that it's pretty average when compared to other acoustic electrics, but in general it's still not a good sound, especially when compared to the high end Taylor and Marshall acoustic electrics.

    OVERALL OPINION

I have eventually learned that the Ovation guitars sound pretty terrible across the board and this only adds to that track record, as it really was a huge disappointment, especially considering the way that it plays. I would really hate to see people buy this as it seems to be a large waste of money. Really, for the price range, you could probably buy a Guild that is nicer that might not be acoustic electric but would at least sound good. I'd have to advise against this for the most part.
