UTILIZATION

Bob Taylor's company has been making great guitars for a long time. This is absolutely no exception. The 314ce is a masterful creation of an acoustic instrument. It has exceptional playability, a great look, amazing attention to detail in both design and workmanship, and the tone is fantastic, both unplugged and electrified. I really couldn't ask for much more from a guitar from a playability standpoint.

SOUNDS

I'm giving this guitar a 10 on sound quality. It is an incredible instrument for tone - the sapele body has a bit darker timbre than a typical dreadnought, but the spruce top keeps the clarity there. The shape has a bit of a jumbo shaped bout, only smaller, with a tucked in waist, so it can project plenty of volume but retain definition on fingerstyle passages. Percussive-style guitar playing sounds great on here, with plenty of woody thump to accompany the bell-like harmonics. The ES system also excels in electronics for an acoustic, presenting the sound engineer with a highly accurate picture of what the guitar actually sounds like to the performer. It's great!

OVERALL OPINION

This is a wonderful instrument. The luthiers at Taylor have come up with a nice all-around guitar that is equally at home strumming, picking, shredding, or being gently tickled. It is a highly responsive axe that is sure to satisfy even the pickiest player. Being on the pricey side, it can put a serious dent in the wallet, but it is not priced inordinately high - this guitar is worth the dough. Very recommended.
