    Ampeg B2R

My review is based on my use of it with Amepg 410HLF Cabinet

Bought on eBay second hand a few years ago, toured a lot of small venues (under 100 people, bars/small clubs/etc) stud up to punishment of constantly being packed and unpacked. I paid about $300 for it but you can find them cheaper now second hand. I don't think they sell this model new anymore, they have the B2RE now.

Great starter amp for a poor musician, it has plenty of power to be herd along with other loud rock drums and distorted guitars. Even when playing outside this amp had enough juice. Tone is fantastic and very customizable. I never had any issues with this amp, never broke down, and it is very reliable.

May not have enough power for larger venues, however at a larger venue you will probably be either microphoned or using a DI-Box to the PA system, in which case that would not matter.

VERY Durable construction, can stand the abuse of touring and doesn't need to be confined to a studio, and it can easily be put in a rack.

If you have limited funds, and limited needs, this is a great amp! Buy one used, they hold up the test of time, its a great deal!

    Local Music Store - $500

This was my first bass head that i bought, i used it in my band that played small to medium sized venues, and i played through a GK 1x15 and Hartke 4x10, the amps power was good, but sometimes i would be over powered by the two guitarists, it was leight weight and 2 spaces wich was convienent, and it is a great little amp for people with a budget, i also could get some great sounds out of it with its 9 band EQ

it lacked power, and you couldnt get some tones that you wanted, i needed more power and tones, but thats ampegs bottom line product

it was built very solid, there were two things that went wrong, and this was five years after i bought it, so it did hold up…

it was built very solid, there were two things that went wrong, and this was five years after i bought it, so it did hold up, but the DI on the back stopped woking, and two knobs broke off, the knobs were still functional, but hard to get at

fantastic starter amp for around 500, best in class, but better out there, if you can spend a little more, than do it, but a nice little amp either way

A large transistor 200 watts into 8 ohms and 350 into 4 ohms.
    Between active and passive
    XLR DI output,
    HP output jack.
    Effects loop.
A graphic equalizer with a switch to use it or not (to change its practice)
    Limiter, switch-20db.

    UTILIZATION

The config is clear, the right sound happens right away, you go up the volume and are jubilant.
I have not opened the manual.

    SOUNDS

I was looking for a rock sound simple enough.
    So the B2R is perfect.
I use it with a US Jazzbass and the sound is great. While round and fat.

    OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 2 years and I have two regrets.

I AIM Speakon output jack as well. It seems to be but it is prvu mouth.
I love its simplicity and its sound.
With the exprience, I remake that choice without pb.

So, for those who do not know, it's a head transistors which delivers 350w into 4 ohms and 200W into 8 ohms.
the connection is simple: a power cable for the sector and a jack cord that runs to the speaker!
settings from left to right, a button-15dB, gain, bass, ultra mid, treble, master, a push button limit, a push button to turn the equalizer bands 9, 9-band equalizer and the button start-up of the head.

    UTILIZATION

Use of this amp is simple you just know what you will, and we get a good sound.
the manual is in English and explains quite clearly how to use it.

    SOUNDS

I think this head is very adaptable to all types of music.
I played with my 6-string bass, my 4-string, I have connected the Big Muff, Guyatone distortion, whammy, wah-wah and I even plugged a guitar!
well, question sounds, it's still well-stocked!
Round jazzy sound to a sound specific to slap and fleshy, everything is (almost!)
I like the sounds, the well rounded and the opportunity to work on several levels the highs!
I regret, is the absence of many mediums such as the hot rocket bass combo 100w and warm, powerful lamps!

    OVERALL OPINION

It's been two years that I have and what I like most is the generous and accurate as you can get.
    least, is little existing mediums.
I tried and had a lot of pre amps, Fender Rumble 150w, 100w ampeg rocket bass, SWR redhead (ouch ouch ouch, what a sound!!) david eden, markbass, and so on .... !
I think the price / quality ratio is up to the reputation of ampeg, it's tough and it sounds!
but I thought it lacked the warmth of the lights, so I head deputy to the SVP-BSP preamp Billy Sheehan and there is more than the same song!
There's really what was missing, the heat of the lamp, the lamp power to shake the legs and a slap in the farting!
with experience, I will not repeat that choice, because my tastes have evolved and my back can not stand to wear at arm's length 14kgs head ampeg, ampeg preamp 5kgs and 28kg carry Hartke speaker cabinet!
the issue, there's better, ampeg rocket bass that sounds much warmer and I prefer.
but anyway, I prefer to go to an amplification much simpler and lighter, I do not want to finish hunchback to 50 years!

He goes to all styles of music, I play in a rock band where I play with fingers and slap on finding good treble and bass with middle rounds and in a punk band where I play with a pick and where I found a sound that suits me forever. I played with a ibanez srx-755 which is a 5 string active, and the fifth string does not scare the head. I like the sounds you may have on this head but it is unfortunate that this is a head transistor.

    OVERALL OPINION

I use it now for three years with HP 15 "ampeg B115 and power is enough for concerts, ampeg sound is there, recognizable only" problem "is not a head tube, but otherwise the value money is good, quality and reliability ampeg are there and the price is so reasonable for a head of this quality. If I had to redo this choice now I think I would stay at home but taking an ampeg head lamp but no is not at all in the same price range, but it's still very good material.

The Ampeg B2R is a bass guitar amplifier head, suitable for any kind of use. Where I've used the B2R has been in the studio. The amp boasts 350 watts of power and has a mos-FET design. For connections it has a series of jacks in the back in the form of 1/4" for speaker outputs, and an effects loop, as well as an XLR direct output, which is definitely something that comes in handy in the studio for getting a direct sound in addition to the amp. It also, of course, has a 1/4" input in the front for plugging in your bass. The amp head is also rack mountable and will take up two spaces in a traditional rack casing.

    UTILIZATION

It's not too hard to get used to the Ampeg B2R in terms of it's configuration. If you've got experience with other bass amplifiers, you should feel right at home here as there isn't too much out of the ordinary going on. The main parameters that it has to work with include knobs for gain, bass, mid, treble, as well as a master volume control. It also has a side nine band graphic EQ for further control over your sound. In addition it has a limiter switch to cap it's output and a pad as well. The manual for the B2R isn't something that should be totally necessary.

    SOUNDS

The sound of the Ampeg B2R is definitely that of a bona fide Ampeg amplifier. Ampeg amps definitely have a particularly full sound and is one that is pretty much synonymous with a professional sound. I like the amount of control that you have available to you, as it's possible to get a number of different bass sounds for different situations. It's not the most versatile in the world, but between the extra graphic EQ and the main controls, you should be able to do pretty much everything you want with it...

    OVERALL OPINION

The Ampeg B2R is a pretty inexpensive way to get a great bass head. It's no longer being made but wasn't stopped being made all that long ago, so they should definitely be available on the used market for those interested. The B2R could definitely be a nice find for someone looking for a quality Ampeg bass amp but might not have a ton of cash to drop on one. Either way, keep this on your radar if you're looking for a bass amp head.
