Winter NAMM 2012 News
This is one of my favorite basses I've ever played. I love the style of the design, and the playing action on the neck really helps me play this bass with ease with any technique. The dual humbuckers has been standard fare on guitars for the past 50 years, but never caught on in the bass world for some inexplicable reason. Here it seems quite na...
The pickup combination of this bass combined with the short scale make this a very fun bass to riff out on. This bass wants to be played like a guitar - with a pick, with a fuzz box, through a loud amp. It can certainly do other things very well, but it is such a hoot to just imagine it as a bigger guitar. This is areal winning axe!
The layout of the instrument is a bit lop sided, almost like a Firebird where it seems to have a never ending neck. Super comfortable if you're tall. For the shorter players it might be a less comfortable. But I'm guessing here. The first few minutes it kinda felt like the 3rd position was where you hand ended up when you wanted to be in the fir...
I think my favorite thing about my stingray is how ridiculously fun it is to play and how good it feels in the hands. Seems like whenever i pick it up I feel like I'm having fun. It's just a fun instrument for lack of a better word. Kind of like a good les paul feels. It is not your classic fender bass design or anything. It's very modern i...
The bass is very easy to play, being a shorter scale. One thing I found that was very fun with this bass was playing it through a guitar amp with a distorted signal, and then riffing away with friends playing guitar! It was a blast, and it sounded very cool.
I'm not a fan of this bass. I think Fender should bump the quality control up a notch and make sure they are making a neck that is actually playable. They could charge $100 more for the same bass with a much better fretjob (and lack of neck bow), and it would be a pretty good instrument. Not recommended.
All in all I think the Yamaha RBX170 is a great bass for anyone looking for something that's not too expensive, but has the quality, feel and tone of basses that cost a fair bit more. They are about $200 new which is a killer deal considering the excellent design and quality that goes into this. It will blow away a Squier or other cheapo bass, s...
This bass would be a great beginner bass, or good for someone with smaller stature. I was wanting a full scale bass, so I've got to admit some disappointment, but overall the Jaguar Bass from Squier is still pretty cool.
All in all I think the Fender Aerodyne Jazz is a great bass for anyone looking for a unique take on the standard Jazz or Precision Bass that's melded together in one cohesive and great sounding package. They're built to a very high quality standard and the tones are excellent. Not to mention the classy look as well. At $800 new these basses are ...
Overall, it's ok. It would have garnered better reviews from me if the bass had come with a good fretjob from the factory, but I understand that the company is making a very low-cost instrument here, and fretwork labor is one of the first areas that many manufacturers cut. My bass might have just been a fluke on the fretwork, to be honest, but t...
