J'tais about to buy either the MOTU 828 MkII or the MOTU Voyager - when my dealer prfr signal me that he had a nine Firepod made by the customer who has n'tait realized that not what he needed. D'o prs of 200 .- Euros less, the device with t dballe.

I knew the microphones pramplis taient trs aprcis users, like the simplicity of use. And the fact that all eight entries that can be used of micro silent a big plus for me.

DCID So I take it.
Apart SPDIF in / out, there is no connection numrique ADAT or optical, I do not use a digital signal, a will may be a day not of internal software ( absolutely no rglage mmorisable is like an old mixer).
Like its collgues, the Firepod offers a MIDI in and out for a dpanner (this may be enough for someone who only uses it soon!)

Audio: the rear, monitor outputs, effects loop and stro all tracks of two pairs (1-2, 3-4 etc.)..
On the front, 8 between handsets Jack / XLR and headphone jack for direct monitoring or the cost of the computer output.

The aim silent to finally record more than two simultaneous input on my PowerBook (up to the PC Card PCI M-Audio Audiophile 2496, trs also well !!!). I play with a tromptiste which uses a Stereo effect, and we wanted to have a direct sound and the sound effect for selection in the mix - and I record my piano electronic mono. It's been 4 dj tracks, then: forget the good old Audiophile Stereo.

I use the Firepod with the Powerbook:
1 Ghz G4 processor, 768 Meg RAM., Logic Pro 6.4.3 (with its amazing bundle of native plugins, including imprial SpaceDesigner, rverb convolution), OSX 10.3.9 Panther.
However, I have been testing is conclusive on any PC to beginners: Pentium IV 1.3 Ghz, 512 RAM, ASUS motherboard BW-4 (I think), graph. Hercules Prophet 4000 (very basic), and mentions the Audiophile.

We plug it directly into the Firepod, which sends while FireWire 400 to the Powerbook.

* WARNING *: the line outputs - the synths, for example - are often too low for the simple Firepod between lines (at least for my Roland FP-8, but I also have a synth rack whose signal is not strong enough ...).
One thinks logically enable the micro prampli (enable / disabling indpendante on inputs 1-4 and 5-8).
Problem: it does not jack the inputs must be entered into the XLR prampli into action. This is one of the only honest ngatifs on the device, and is a signal anywhere!
Only possibility to buy as many jack-XLR cables we output lines to get into the Firepod. Which is expensive - unless you know the fiddle properly so-even, which is not my case.

The Firepod offers pramplis instrument (for guitars, basses, etc..) On inputs 1 and 2, which is very practical for dpanner!

I put an 8, to the extent that the prampli works only between XLR is really annoying, but remains as the only ngatif for my use of the device.

UTILIZATION

On the Powerbook, there is no installation! Logic identifies new entries ds launch.
On the PC, install a driver, which comes with the device a breeze. 5 minutes maximum!

At this point a small program that pilot the Firepod and retain levels between ETC. t would not dsagrable. But insofar as this is my first audio interface seriousness, is I do not miss, I just learned to do without.

In my humble opinion, the manual - short and concise - more than enough given the simplicity of the device Inoue.

GETTING STARTED

The Firepod is Designed so simply that it can hardly be any problem of stability will be the fact forcment squence your or your operating system. The MAC is the user who is speaking. I have not used the Firepod enough for me taking its PC.
I believe that there was no day set of drivers for over a year and a half, but it is probably to their original stability.
A ride on the PreSonus website: I see there is all-in-even the new drivers for WinXP and OSX respectively Tiger (but that's more than a year that I did not t see. ..).

Under Logic, with my SPECIFICATIONS, with buffers of 256 rgls there more worthy of being mentioned latency.
The maximum registered simultanment tracks with my configuration, is 6. I really doubt the capacity of my Systm from an 8 day o I need it!

OVERALL OPINION

I bought it in October 2004, it works twice a week rgime full report and nothing outside of what I mentioned.

I love its simplicity of design and use and its really a transparent, made good stro trs. The construction is solid, the potentiomtres do not move, it's reassuring trs.

His most is the least: the lack of internal software faster complications that may be linked, but makes it impossible to mmorisation rglages, which is sometimes unfortunate. Like the problem of the XLR impractical to take advantage of micro pramplis, see above ...

The ratio quality price is trs, trs good. I heard a number of notification that the only quality of micro pramplis justify the price of the BTE.

I did not at all occupied with FireWire for this purchase. There are lots of new critters or two entries - 8 mic but I do not know if there are many.
I would do trs probably the same choice, the machine does its job and it is forgotten. It has no price.
