Short for Public Address, the term PA describes all equipment used to broadcast sound in relatively large spaces: microphones, amplifiers, speakers, etc. This of course means that this is an area that’s inseparable from live music, even vital if one considers that the Beatles stopped touring because they couldn’t hear their instruments anymore over the cries of their fans at concerts.

10. Musicians feel most comfortable and play best when they hear what they need to hear on the stage. Of course, the experienced monitor guys and recording guys already know this. But it’s something for those less experienced to think about. No, it’s not about how much power you have or what kind of monitor wedges. It’s about psychology.
