Fender American Telecaster Ash [2003-2007]Published on 02/29/04 at 15:00
Bought new from Musician's Friend online in 2002 for $799. Came with a hardshell case.

Telecasters are built like tanks and have a unique sound all to themselves. They are simple to operate and don't have a lot of features. Controls are limited to a tone control, a volume control, and a 3-position pickup switch -- that's it. Since it's built like a tank and has a bolt-on neck -- you don't feel guilty about getting down and getting rough with it. If you break the neck -- get a new one and bolt that puppy on! If you want to customize it to your tastes -- go ahead -- it's hard to screw one up and if you do -- you can fix it somehow.

The tone is unique. It's not a heavy metal axe really. However, if you're into producing vintage guitar tones -- you have to have a telecaster in your arsenal somewhere. In spite of it's unique sound, you can get Blues, Country, classic Rock, even Jazz out of it!

The American Telecaster model has the six-saddle bridge and medium-jumbo frets. The fretboard is wide at the nut, so you can play a B7 chord without a lot of fumbling. This isn't true with the Mexican made Tele's (which by the way are great too) -- that have the more traditional smaller frets and seem to have narrower fretboards at the nut.

NO TREMOLO BAR! So you have to do it all "with your hands" and your playing style -- which is cool anyway.

Nothing. Wish it was a different color (this one is Ocean Turquois) -- but I'll probaly strip it down and paint it surf green one day anyway.

Construction is Good. Any tele has a few flaws -- but those only add to the character of the tele. I can see where the wood was joined under the finish on the back of the guitar if I look closely -- but that's about it for flaws. I did a side-by-side comparison of this American Tele with a Mexican Strat that I also own and the tuners seem to be MUCH improved on the American Tele. The Mexican Strat's tuners are a little loose. The frets on the Tele are well finished, while the Strat frets need some work. This is not a scientific comparison -- but it's what I've observed with my own guitars.

Great guitar. Every serious guitar player should own one at some point because it produces a wide range of tones that are hard to reproduce on any other guitar. I would also rate it high as a beginning guitar -- due to it's simplicity and construction.

Fender American Telecaster Ash [2003-2007]Published on 05/25/03 at 15:00
I purchased this fine instrument for 900 dollars. I saw this hanging on a guitar wall, and was hooked from then!

The quality, and the twang are Beautiful. The Deltatone pickups provide a volcano, in which Awesome power erupts. A great deal at 900!

i really dont like the standard pickguard, its too bland. i purchased a fender perloid one to replace it.

This thing is like a fine watch, so perfect.

Buy the best, Fender. You wont be sorry.

I bought the tele from an established shop in St.Paul Minn. It the American made in the natual finish, maple neck.
I have always liked tele's and was looking for a good, rock solid simply guitar.
    I paid 799.00

I love the tone and the the live feel - the way the entire guitar vibrates and enhances the sounds it produces. The neck is great! It is a very comfortable, versatile guitar.

The truss rod was so loose that it buzzed. Not hard to correct but it should have been caught at the store. Also, the strings were very used on it and it didn't stay in tune that well.
I had a bit of an argument with the store as to who should do the set up, me or them.

I had a bit of an argument with the store as to who should do the set up, me or them.
They did the set up at their expense - intonation, neck adjustment, with a string change from 9's to 10's and it is great now!!
Wish the quality control at Fender and the store would have caught the obvious problems ahead of time and saved me a hassel.
I don't think the customer should have to do the quality control on item like this.

The guitar is beautiful and seems to be of high quality. Love the finish.
Sounds great and is very easy to play now that the set up is right.

Would buy a tele again - they're super.
I have heard a lot of negatives about Fender's quality control and I guess I would have to agree. Too bad. The design and sound of the tele is so great, it's too bad the consistency in checking them over isn't very good.
    >Take time to check it over at the store and don't take it if it isn't right.

    SOUNDS

I love the tone of the Fender Telecaster primarily with the medium gain or clean amplifier. My perfect set up with these guitars has to be a good old Fender Bassman or a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amplifier. Something has a vintage voice that I can throw a good overdrive pedal in front of and maybe a analog or digital chorus or delay pedal in front of as well. It has a great voicing for that Thai style of operation and rig set up.

    OVERALL OPINION

You can find these guitars anywhere you look for musical instruments. Pretty much any retailer will carry a Fender Telecaster guitar of some kind. Just depending on which reissue style or which style of neck or paint job you prefer will depend upon where you buy it. You can find them online and they're very easily to be found in the using classified sections. These are great guitar for the money and because they are American built and you know they're going to feel good and sound right.

One thing I love about the Fender Telecaster is it's brilliant clean tone and authentic chimy voicing. These guitars are great for country, indie rock, brit rock, all the way up to hard rock music. They have a great sustain any unique sustain unlike any other guitar. There is simple guitar and a great overall feeling guitar.

    UTILIZATION

These guitars have a nice smooth thin neck a little bit thinner than a Fender Stratocaster guitar. I would say their necks are closer to a neck of an Ibanez guitar. You have two single coil pickups which ultimately should be replaced with much better boutique style pickups. You have a volume control knob and a tone control knob and a pickup selector switch. There's not a lot of bells and whistles on this guitar but it's just a straight forward rock 'n roll instrument.

    SOUNDS

The tone of these guitars are exceptional when you pair them with a nice American amplifier from Fender. I always prefer a fender baseman, a Fender twin reverb, or just about any other fender amplifier that they build. There is an great combination and a chemistry that comes between a Fender Telecaster and a Fender amplifier. It's always good to have a decent overdrive pedal such as an Ibanez tube screamer and some sort of delay or modulation in front of the amplifier. You can get some great sonic tones and brilliant sounds with this set up. It's a simple set up but just a fantastic tone to be had with this guitar.

    OVERALL OPINION

These guitars are pretty easily to be found in the used and new classifieds. Just about any retailer on the planet carries a fender telecaster and easily come in about $1000 or so. Depending on what re-issue it is or what build it is office custom shop will determine the actual cost but they're pretty inexpensive American guitars. I highly recommend this to anyone is looking for this particular sound that is unique to its own. Their fun guitars and their basic guitar for recording and gigging.

As for sound, you plug (on a good tube amp, of course, do not connect on that bomb shit first came oh sacrilege!) And bim, you take the legend full mouth!

    SOUNDS

I found the sound I was looking for my poor beginnings There's 12 or 13 rods I know when you love ... And unfortunately there's no secret, good sound, it is certainly working, but it is paid primarily. It's stupid, but it's like that and open the parenthesis! Notice to young people starting small and want to find the sound pro or near: do not buy the crap from scratches and shit amp that offers in shops giant decathlon style of music ... Save, type family, abusing little old, sell crack, short wait to gather brouzoufs. End of digression!
Well if my config is simple: Peavey Classic 30 + Cry Baby Wah Wah and the limit according to the inspiration of a small chorus or phaser boss at home boss, but 80% of the buzz is telecaster US + wah Wah + Peavey Classic 30. And there she plays like this:
Beuhloose of (whatever you want, no desire for it is cut, it twang and crunch it's the devil, I am even surprised to catch the sounds of BB King acids), Rock (all the same as for the blues) Reggae (yeah yeah guys reggae, swing rhythm of the exodus like that just to laugh, be amazed z'allez and forget Andy Summers of the Police playing on Tellie), Funk (Prince at Brown, passing through Average White Band, Fat Larry's Band, P-Funk, M, Sinclair, the Malka Family and juan Rozoff for friends funk made in France), Jazz (position neck pickup, it softens the sound with the tone control, hop and the leaves are shoveled ...). In short, it goes everywhere but then very very very very well (blues / rock, reggae, funk / jazz, my trinity to me), except perhaps in fashion trash / metal. I tried two to three still plan to Jo Satriani and Co. Tellie history of pushing into a corner, there's no blemo jouablité for the handle (it's fast and forget that guys like Wes, Django and Joe Pass playing on the big sleeves - Dedications also switch to berserk and flamenco gypsies! - and all these guss there are not known to be troll-latte on the stick), however the big issue My ti peavey is not that ... But I guess more than one amp and a good big couillu pedal crude will print medium (especially if you put a humbucker, but in this case the farewell single-coil treble magic! And n Do not forget: this is not the guitar makes the guitar ...

    OVERALL OPINION

Tellie sleeping at home (my wife is happy) for two weeks, I took her by repeating, not yet in a concert that is coming soon - and she stole the show in my Start 'Mexican 1995, my ES 335 in 1998 (we are the champions!) and stratum 'us 97 mounted on customized Roland Jazz Chrous a colleague scratch!
There's no, I love everything about it! This scraper is a legend, it is aesthetically and electronic roots, simple, wickedly effective with only her two microphones and much more versatile than we would like you to believe! Good as others say, it has the defects of his qualities, but I personally do not find him lacking, except sometimes a small breath, m'enfin good rock and roll guys!
The price / quality ratio is great! I got out in 1240 and had at that price - but not messing no accident - you got great sound for all your life on a magical guitar ... I went for Tellie at my corner store I know well ... She was taken in 1380, he gave me a discount of 140 and the bowl had monster is that instead of the classic Fender black box, I found myself with the case G & G originally scheduled for stratum custom Jeff Beck. Value box: about 250 E I think. Yeah, the guy who had bought the Jeff Beck did not want his case (asort tweed finish my amp is not the fate that?)! You think you can find it on the net in German discounters? Ben not my Teutonic! Not sure also that in addition to the Rhine, they have the natural color of my Tellie which automatically means ash body (chuis been throwing more eyes, I not find my model) ... Well, not sure besides the Rhine, scrapes he will rule in your onions with a little tyrant other than the original 9-42 mounted on the beast ... And then buy a scratch by mail, without having tried it, seriously? For a Mexican model I am willing - and again - but for a US ... Because friends, for trying a dozen TV before flashing on my Tellie, well I have not had the same feelings about each scratch, and that sometimes the models, however, exactly the same! For example, before buying my home Tellie Mx, I tried her twin sister home Mb Ben y'avait not something that stuck! It was p'têt settings of the amp (fender hot rod thing), must first say that my seller was a patient of reverb (reverb to five, "I'll wait down, oh yeah it's better eh !"... Y'avait p'têt also a problem of the neck pickup height ... No, actually it does not for me, period! Otherwise, I tested the Korean and Mexican TV. The sound was nice, finally it depended again microphones and model. By the way thank you m. fender that seeks to drown us with thousands of lines and models, fucking marketing ... I also had a Japanese between hands (model Kotzen), friendly, it deposits, but the good fucking I had planned for a marketing US.Et Kotzen then it tastes ch ... (green palo just tired). The Highway - model Entry-us-is not bad, but the sound is below the standart. Then again, alder body, while purists claim the ash! After the above models, the deluxe system switch micro and noiseless that make any noise (not very roots that no, it smells like political correctness and aspetisé) is good, it's beautiful, you get lost in the switch and it's a little more expensive (300 had more)! It sounds better? Maybe it's subjective. But if it sounds better, it is less obvious between a Korean and my Tellie where there's no picture! And the handle of the deluxe seemed weird ... Y'avait also the 60th anniversary of US model, a replica Tellie 52 ', really a killer, but the silver with diamond inlay on the handle and the drawing just under the bridge , it was a bit too much! m'enfin, y'en who assume! I also had the pleasure of caressing the famous Tellie 52 'whiskey color black plate, but now the wallet ... And then I prefer my natural color so there!
In short, my Tellie, it kills everything, but I think I share it, and especially do not fies you there soon if you have to carry you purchased a TV (lucky). Try several, open your ears and choose one that suits you best! And if you do not see (or do not understand or does not feel) any difference whatsoever between a TV and a Mexican tele us baja 52 ', well take the Mexican!

    SOUNDS

This guitar can do any style of music except metal. You can play county rock, pop and everything of every genre in between. The tone is a slap in the face of anyone who think that a Telecaster is a country guitar. This guitar can do any style of music except metal. You can play county rock, pop and everything of every genre in between. I have always liked the tone of a Fender Telecaster with a good Fender amp or even the sound you can get from a solid sounding Marshall amp of some sort. I love the sound of a tubescreamer in front with a promising delay pedal of some kind and the combination from all of that gear as just a delight. You can dial this guitar into a nice grind and get those single coils singing with ease on a nicely distortion amp. The tone and sustain was phenomenal and pleasing to the ears.

These pickups are much better that some of the other ones offed by Fender. These ones do not need to be replaced as they are top of the line Alnico V bar, which means there are 5 alnico magnets in each single coil pickup.

    OVERALL OPINION

I would recommend everyone to own at least one Fender Telecaster. They are a great addition to the team. You have to own one to round out your tonal arsenal. At new these guitars come in right at around $1000 which is a steal of a great price. If I were in the market this would be about the best you could do for an American made Fender guitar.

The finish I chose is a natural beauty that all can appreciate the quality of the wood and assemble the two parts that make up the body. The shield is white ( triple-layer with mesh). On the back of the head is applied to a small 60th Anniversary logo. From the simple, the experienced: it is a no-fault.

    UTILIZATION

When I tested the guitar store, I was surprised by a slightly rough touch to a maple neck. In fact, after a few minutes of play the race got rid of a thin layer of rubber granular (presumably to protect the guitar during transport) and acquired a political enjoyable. The vibrato and legatos is with an unprecedented ease and comfort. The heel of the neck rather thick screw makes access to a shrill little harder than on a guitar shaped but it is a matter of adaptation. For ergonomics ... well it's a real Telecaster, a guitar lumberjack. Lovers of comfort, go your way: this guitar is heavy (ash wood is dense enough), no muzzle will not ease your bruised ribs or your forearm, it must not be too heavily on the edge. That's why I love this guitar and I also enjoy ironing then Stratocaster. The consideration of these disadvantages is bluffing acoustic quality of this solid body. Even empty, it rings. Do exercises unplugged is a pleasure that allows us to appreciate the spread of vibrations, perfectly homogeneous and promotes a natural sustain is nice. Trendy, well ... it's always a Telecaster.

    SOUNDS

Rock, Blues, Folk, Country ... The Telecaster was invented for that. No disappointment for a guitar "basic", it is almost the ultimate guitar. There are sound racy, perhaps small but incredibly enjoyable, this bark. In acute, the twang is by appointment. In severe, the sound is pretty hot but incisive above what I expected. Middle position, you get something more than the addition of the qualities of two microphones, a snapping sound and warm, accurate and balanced. I really think I use all the possible configurations. The Delta Tone tone control provides a color palette that allows very convincing forays into a more jazzy repertoire. The only drawback is a fairly pronounced sensitivity to pests and feedback. It may need to think about using a noise gate when you push the distortion. In his clear, even at high volume, it is quiet and responds to any attack with a virulence and a bite which I can not do without. My favorite sound is obtained by plugging the guitar directly into the amp. It fits very well with my Marshall Valvestate 8240 but may speak on any amp and I look forward to a good pair of Twin Reverb. On a POD XT, it accommodates well the amp simulations for all generations, while maintaining its own character, lens, sharp, generous. This is not ideal for thrash metal, but suspected it a little. In short, if you like the sound of the Tellie, this model will not disappoint.

    OVERALL OPINION

I have the Telecaster for the past 8 months. It solidifies a long-term desire to return to a basic instrument, which sounds reliable. Its stability is amazing agreement, releasing the game a lot of stress for live. To you the bends of two tones, rhythmic chattering, angry riffs. And attention to ears, the highs are monstrous! I have no complaints to make, any defects integral part of the legend of the Telecaster. The amalgam of tradition (the '52 body, the one piece maple neck, the alliance of ash and maple) and modern (22 boxes, radius comfortable, mechanical and high-precision individual bridges) is a complete success. After that, if not the queen of versatility, so it complements the essential set of a guitarist who likes to change styles. And shall secure it to my old stratocaster and my Ibanez S540 perfectly. Of course, you have to pay the price of the legend and Fender should certainly generate a comfortable margin with 1399 euros for a plate of ash and basic electronics. However, I believe that this guitar is worth the sacrifice. See for yourself. For my part, I do not regret my investment choices and I would do this without hesitation.
