I have been using less than a month, I have been kindly loaned for a record. And I sold an Engl 4x12 in order to pay me, because after having tasted it, I had the ears or the heart to make it!
I play on a rack (VHT Engl570 + BB) in stereo config.
I had never played on 2x12, then, legitimately, I was skeptical about a micra power and dissemination of the machine compared to 4x12 which I am used to. My skepticism was short lived! Indeed, this cabinet has a pretty mind-blowing sound distribution for a 2x12, and it moves away, the more you hear! I was surprised by its weight, rather modest. What makes me say that the weight is not a guarantee of quality, contrary to what is all too common.
In terms of build quality, you type in the top wig, no worries at this level. I do not know whether to talk about woodworking or violin, I investigate further on the subject!
What makes the character of this cabinet is ... do not really have! I mean all the speakers on which I played so far were of a + / - pronounced. (Engl 4x12 V30 = very aggressive in dry / Mesa 4x12 with V30 = lower limit huge slobbering / Marshall 4x12 with G12T-75's = loud, a little hoarse / etc.). The VHT has, I think, a neutral sound, all frequencies are well represented, but also well balanced. The bass is tight, not invasive at all (at the same time, it's a 2x12!) The mids are punchy, thick, and sharp biting without being shrill. I almost want to compare with monitor speakers, in the sense that VHT does not color the sound, it only magnify what it downstream, guitar / preamp / Poweramp / head / etc. and suddenly the amp settings are much more accurate.
It is not really the entry-level budget issue, but then it is not at all question the entry level quality!
Quote: If the Rolls costs the same as a Clio ...
Of course I would do this choice, I just do it! I have not had time yet to change their minds, and frankly, I doubt it happens anytime soon!
I think that at some future time, I'll buy another 2x12. I favor a Bogner, or a Mesa Road King, to mix a little hp and further expand my stereo config ...
Sorry, but I find nothing to complain about, so, in my rating system, I put a 10, it is perfect for me ... Maybe not for everyone, for those looking for a baffle type, with a more pronounced (see above)
