How is the market value calculated?
The market value is based on the prices observed between individuals on Audiofanzine:
- the prices listed in the classifieds, which are not necessarily the prices the gear actually sold for;
- the sales made via Looper;
- the selling prices declared by the sellers;
- the prices paid that members state in their reviews.
Looper sales, declared selling prices and prices paid stated in reviews cover the last 12 months. Classifieds go back up to 5 years when a model has only a few.
The market value also takes supply and demand into account, between “for sale” and “want to buy” classifieds, which is why it differs from the simple average of the listed prices.
So that a value reflects the price of a single unit, classifieds with options, bundles and outlier prices are left out. Speakers are sold by the unit when new but often by pair when used: the price of pairs is halved.
How reliable is the market value?
On every product page, a badge next to the market value tells you how far you can trust it:
- Reliable value
- The value is based on at least 10 classifieds and sales, some of them from the last 12 months.
- Value to be confirmed
- The value is based on fewer than 10 classifieds and sales: it can vary widely from one classified to the next.
- Outdated value
- No classified, sale or declared price for this model in the last 12 months: the value relies on older data, and the market may have changed since.
The market value is for guidance only and is in no way an official valuation. It gives a first estimate of the used price of a model, but the condition of the gear and the accessories included can significantly change the price of a given unit.
A model has no market value yet? That means too few sales have been made to derive a reliable price from them: we would rather give no figure than a shaky one.
