Mytek 8X192 AD/DA

The Mytek 8 X 192 AD/DA is an analog to digital and digital to analog converter. We've got one of these in one of the smaller studios at the studio complex where I work, which is more of a mixing room over anything. It can support sample rates up to 192 Khz. It has D Sub connections, as well as XLR ones for your analog mix outputs. It will fit in a traditional rack casing, only taking up a single space.

OVERALL OPINION

For what we use it for, the Mytek 8 X 192 AD/DA is a great converter. While it isn't of the same quality of an Apogee, not too many converters are. There is a good amount of flexibility here in terms of what you can use it with and for, but we keep in stationary in one studio for mixing and overdubbing. I never have to mess around with it too much, although every now and again it will flake out since it's kind of an older converter. I've also never really had to mess with the settings since we keep it within the same studio set up. Converters are an incredibly important thing to have in your professional or home studio, as everything you hear goes through them. For smaller home studios, something like this won't be necessary as your audio interface will have converters, but if you want a bit of a cleaner signal in terms of converting both from digital to analog signal and vice versa, having an external converter can be a huge help. I don't believe that Mytek makes these any more, as it's been a while since this is an older piece of gear. If you can find one used though, the price should be pretty reasonable for a high quality converter.. I'd definitley recommend the Mytek 8 X 192 AD/DA converter in most situations, but if money isn't an object, the Apogee converters are the way to go.

OVERALL OPINION

I used it a few weeks to replace my mixing desk Ramsa Panasonic WR-DA7, a very good restaurant in its category. The idea was to permanently abandon the physical consoles and optimize each element of my sound system. I hesitated a moment between the two channels and 8. Finally I fell for the 8x192 and 6 outputs BNC word clock, sometimes performing stereo jacks while singing.

The hardware comes in a package at the height of the machine, with doc and cable sector. The rack weighs its small weight and the whole gives the impression of good build quality.

I admit I was a little lost at first in relation to the various switches to view sources and select sources. After the first tests, you'll quickly get its brands. The meters have not a very long race and are not easily quantifiable. Some green LEDs, a body and a red signal punctuate the race ...

His side, I had a relatively good conversion from the console. I have not been struck by the quality of conversion of the craft, yet very real. I was already using a very good preamp on the table (Manley Voxbox) and some Focusrite (green series). So I quickly found the grain sources.

To be honest I expected a more dazzling leap forward. But I remain convinced that this is a machine that fits into an environment suitable for the products of his rank. I think we can really make the best with the right equipment upstream (preamp, cabling, acoustic positioning microphones, ...). Clearly, this was not an object to be in every hand, even if it is easy to use. We must feed it with quality sources to ensure to transcribe faithfully the content.

Because that's its strength: a high quality conversion. Its clock is just as formidable. A test session with a clock in expensive mastering studio allowed me to judge the value! And with six outs, was the margin!

Its side, it is a converter faithful, very faithful ...

Its price may put off though since my purchase, option boards are available (but not enough db25 wiring necessary to enter / exit the aircraft).

In the end I sold it because I did not have the conditions to get the full potential (lack of preamp / mic to feed the beast, on acoustic, budget mobilized, ...) and because I was considering becoming moving to a more mobile form (laptop, audio interface, VST).

I do not would argue more on the sound because I did not have time to deepen my recordings ...

OVERALL OPINION

I've had three months

the +:

- The sound of this amazing machine with a clarity and neutrality formidable

- The clock is also very bad, a solid stability,

- Virtually no heat and no noise voltage power supply

- Simplicity: you plug in the sound and sends you c all.

- Full direct monitoring headphone jack and XLR output to avoid listening to a double summation.

the -:

- I enjoyed in other connectors AES + to have a choice but ... the d25 is pratrique and reliable ........... er ... it's nitpicking ...

I give a 10/10

I actually use my convertos the beginnings of the digi 002 er ... the one is really very very very far from the same mytek is incomparable.
then those of the digi 003 ... c be a bit better but ... such

I heard from a friend's heyday: good but colorful
and when I bought this marvel ... I understood what it was like the true convert
my 2 summers neve and ssl are all of a sudden made sense,
when my audio jacks with the 1073 ... such

I remake that choice without any hesitation, I will certainly buy a second soon to make me a 16 i / o
