This is a semi-modular monophonic analog synthtiseur.
2 VCO (saw and square), 1 VCF (LP), a VCA, EG 2 (1 1 AR and ADSR), 1 LFO, 1 Ring Modulator, a sample and hold, a Midi to CV, 3 multiple.
All the connections is Jack 6.35, the manufacturing quality is good but a little EHJV by a finish that seems limited (mounting the front panel not align with the box)
internally powered (220V) and I reu the synth patches with seven cables (a bit limited in view of the possibility of the unit)
A system that is open, compatible with most brand diffrent modules (Analog System, Doepfer ....)

UTILIZATION

Well, we are dealing an analog instrument and says it all!
Here, no patch or backup memory except that the user (and again)

The first range of pre-patch is RedSquare internally and allows the Fast Fashion sounds without the need for any cable, which is quite comfortable when you never touch a modular.
This range is "cable" as follows: VCO1-> Mixer-> VCF-> EG1 (AR) -> VCA, the pitch of the Midi-CV is connected to VCO1.

The rest of the modules is patchable Premire envy with this range. in my case, I am still far from trs toured all the possibilities.

The manual is unfortunately trs succinct, do not expect him to learn the fondemmentaux synthse. The result is a brief description of modules, some (rare) examples of patches and with the procedures for calibrating VCO and the Midi-CV.

SOUNDS

Of true happiness in a red box!
The Red Square is a real instrument with a soul, a well-affirm characters and sound all its own. It's not Moog (less "fat" in the lower, but also less overdone) or the MS-20 (despite what the manufacturer), an indescribable ARP can be (and again) is warmer than a Doepfer (IMHO) and much cheaper than the RS Analog System.

I read that the oscillators were not the most stable - this is partly true, but especially during the Premire 15 minutes of use. After the Red Square is temprature, large carts keeping the agreement are quite rare.

OVERALL OPINION

I possde synthtiseur the past 3 months.
As much as I have never t comfortable with the synths (both in sound and in terms of ergonomics) as the potential of Red Square cratif allows me to advance in my compos.

The report qualitprix and price / performance is because I think trs INTERESTED even if it is below a true modular system, the possibilities are not so much less important and for someone with a beginners synth is the IDAL.

I would do without this choice hsiter and I keep it in the middle of a larger modular sytme

Rack semi modular analog version 2, Red Square has a good finish, sturdy and neat.
On the rear panel is a power supply 220/110, one input and one audio output, two MIDI in / thru.
On the front of a multitude of knobs and holes (Jack 6.5), obviously it is a modular, monophonic therefore, no presets, no backups, but sounds to the infinite, simply activate the brain. .
Found in facade: 2 VCO, 1 ADSR, 1 AR, 1 LFO, 1 S + H, 1 VCF, 1 Mixer, 1 VCA, 1 MIDI / CV, RingMod 1, 3 and 1 Multiple headphone. The MIDI interface is really good and complete (pitch, control, trig, accent), no problems.
2 ADSR would have been perfect!

UTILIZATION

So for simplicity, it is better to forget the modular saw the possibilities of wiring, you can not say that it is simple, on the other hand is exciting! Once you take the machine in hand, it is a treat! surprises at every cabling
It should be a few basic concepts ... the manual is a minimum but goes around the machine, it is clear.

SOUNDS

The sound ... The highlight of analogue instruments!
I find much focus "electro sounds that stain" So far I have used both for big bass that leads the Red Square has character, obviously! Sounds are fast becoming the key elements!
The expression (of course depending on the wiring) is excellent opportunity to sound crude, aggressive, resonance, elastic ... In short a good range. The reaction to the keyboard provided quite a surprise, compared with accents, it is anything but flat!

OVERALL OPINION

I've had eight months, I played with a lot of digital synths / modeling (Waldorf, Korg, Novation, Kurweil, Oberheim ..), plugins virtual .. Of course nothing beats a real analog sound is responsible for expression and has a grain and character that we can not imitate in my opinion, too many variations ... It's alive!
I also use an Analogue Systems modular rack and a Sherman Filterbank 2. The Red Square in his personality, I do not pass, it's a beautiful instrument!

Sounds grandiose ...
It sounds like I "modular analog", a lot of heat
It perfectly complements the vostok that sounds differently ....
nothing to say it's a small wonder

OVERALL OPINION

Not very long

With experience, I would take a second vostok .... the red. is nice but small single-handedly ..

coupled to another system is happiness .. if you would add a good reverb and a sherman got to be friendly

Version 2 has been modified. The front is black and very successful. He has the mouth this synth.

The pulse width has been replaced by a sync feature.

The audio input are three numbers in order to sync, both Osc together.

It is complete (2 Osc with three waveforms available and combined, a ring mod, S + H, LFOs, 2 envelopes, one S + H, sub osc, noise, an LPF, three and a multiple Management midday hair). In short you need to get started.

It may lack a CV mixer and a filter BP, HP and some possibilities of modulation input.

UTILIZATION

This is the easiest synth to use than I had in my hands. A breeze and a huge pleasure.

This synth is more didactic and more ergonomic on the market (with his fellow telemark). Well spotted Analog solutions.

SOUNDS

So here I am on your ass, you make great stuff. Of bass and leads sounds as well as fat. It is ideal for electro tek see IDM (perhaps not enough metal). You like Trance? go your way, here is crude.

A true champion. I do not expect much. This is my first hardware synth and it surpasses by far the virtual monophonic synthesizer. This is especially pleased to make patches and the speed at which they are made makes it so essential.

It is a semi modular and it makes me want to go to the full modular later tellem panoply of sounds is different synths "frozen" traditional.



Edit (after 5 months of use)

I'm still very happy but to be perfect:

- It lacks a clock out to get it into a full modular
- The level of audio inputs is too low
- The second tilt is not sync to the pitch and there is only one modulation input (you can not assign a keyboard AND follow an envelope or LFO same time on the pitch)
- No pulse width
- No reset / sync LFO (where I quibble )

And above all: the VCA is connected to the half shell. A full package would have been ideal.
Still, it sounds really good and that its shortcomings will be addressed with the addition of a true modular (Dotcom, Mos Lab ,...)

OVERALL OPINION

Value for money excellent (820 euros new). (Edit: still no better at this price on the market or it must move immediately to a Mos-Lab)

The fact that it is produced in small quantities is quite nice. It has its grain and you have "your" sound.

These fellows look very well also. I hesitated with the telemark, the Oberheim SEM nem and Future Retro XS and the Doepfer mini systems. The retro future is a little more expensive and I wanted to jack 6.3. More ergonomic than the mini jack and telemarck eurorack.

Forget the DSP (access, clavia ,...). The semi-modular is the bomb. (Well, each his own)
