Aphex 1402 Bass Exciter

Aphex 1402 Bass XciterPublished on 01/26/10 at 15:00
The Aphex Bass Exciter is packaged in a red aluminum stompbox with black graphics. Four knobs -- Lo Tune, Lo Blend, Hi Tune, Hi Blend. Single heavy duty in/out footswitch. XLR DI out, 1/4' in and out jacks. Passive/active pushbutton. Ground lift. Operates on 1 (v battery or optional power supply.

I've played bass professionally for 45 years.

Playing at low volume in a church setting, I wanted something to give some added depth to my bass without having to turn up the volume. Paid $149 from Musiciansfriend.

Playing at low volume in a church setting, I wanted something to give some added depth to my bass without having to turn up the volume. Paid $149 from Musiciansfriend.

The Exciter did what it advertised -- it added some depth and 'life' to the bass sound so that it appeared to be louder onstage without actually raising volume. It was easy to use also.

It died after being used once a week for about a month. Aphex replaced the unit, but I was not happy that it dies so quickly with moderate, careful use.

Built very well of heavy aluminum. However, as noted above, it dies after being used very little, so I doubt the quality or reliability of the internal components.

The Aphex Bass Exciter does what it promises, which is to add life and depth to your bass at low volume. However, the unit died after being used for about eight hours. Although Aphex replaced it for free, I thought it should not have had problems so quickly after being used gently for such a short time.

Analog effect pedal/DI box to enhance the sound.

UTILIZATION

Very easy configuration.

Intuitive use: just turn the controls and listen to the results

Clear user's manual.

SOUND QUALITY

Effective effect.

The big bottom and aural exciter section does a good job, but the character of my Fender RI62 gets a bit lost. If you have a good bass and a good amp you won't need this effect.

OVERALL OPINION

I've been using it for a few weeks.

In the beginning, I liked this device a lot but I don't use it anymore because it tends to nullify the sound character of my bass. The sound is bigger but not really better.

The value for money is good on the secondhand market.

If I ever have to buy this sort of effect again I will test BBE products for the sake of comparison.

UTILIZATION

For sound is simple:
is divided by 2 times 2:

Cot 'big bottom' what the bass, the 'lo tune' is used to adjust the frquence below which the effect operates,
This is serious for 1 10 (as all the buttons for that matter) so it must make its contribution !!!!, the ears 'lo blend' is to increase / decrease the amount Bass adds.

WARNING: Unlike what you might expect of course, is not added level (volume) but only a quantity of serious is the big advantage of the pedals.

For 'the Aural Exciter' the principle is exactly the same, but the treble, although a similar one + 'prsence' as for scratch, in short what aare, great for slap .

I was not man franais, no manual at all because the store had in dmo, I download on the site: http://www.aphex.com /

SOUND QUALITY

L is indescribable: Lag with my and my Trace Elliot typ everything 80's, the trs trs clear what hifi too clean and sharp, since the directory that I made in time plutt 60s-70's, I find a well rounded, well below the low-bass that gives pleasure to other group members (with the same difficult to have no trace in the lower dgueuler !!!!)

OVERALL OPINION

I bought it for 1 week 230 euros, worth it, but you gots to see the following, though for the sheer slap for example, I think the essential

- Taking alim '9 volts (battery can be used, it is in the closed case with 4 screws). The pedal can operate between 5 and 12 volts AC and 7 and 17 volts DC (I tried with various power supply ', the 9v DC brings the least amount of hum with my pretty alim' regulated). Boring details: Aphex on both I, the cord is the 9v Line 6 (barrel wider than the rest of the prod ', used by Line 6, Digitech Whammy for, and for the Aphex). 5mA.
- Switch on / off in true bypass!

UTILIZATION

Simple as all, as stupid as cabbage, playing with the knobs until you find happiness!

SOUND QUALITY

I am no longer that of computer music ...
I use it with a small Warwick Double Buck $ $ (MEC active pickups and electronics), an Ampeg SVP-Pro preamp, all on a small Yamaha mixing desk, and shoo all in Cubase.
The sound? B'en there, slap!
It really happens to a sculptured his formiveilleux:

The Big Bottom adds an unexpected depth and dynamics of the same adjective. In short, it is simply amazing!

More mixed results on the Aural Exciter: in small doses, it goes well, there was greater clarity in the sound. By pushing a little sadly, and predictably, he adds the breath, where the Big Bottom is very clean.

I do not think it would help me bagpipes, I bought "to show" (yeah, I cracked wheat at that time). And also for his ID.

DI for the part, in the end, I use it (it also adds a bit of breath in my opinion).

Come on, a sample chtit (http://jacksonfreak.free.fr/audio/test_aphex_01.mp3) to the hard biniou (Part 1 Bypass, part in the Big Bottom Aural Exciter and 7 to 4). To listen with headphones or speakers too pourrites

OVERALL OPINION

I have a few months. DI bought for her and a big curiosity, I do not spend more of Big Bottom (and I do not use the DI).
Damage, the light breath of Aural (I'm really finicky with that, especially at this price). -1
Damage, the DI, not exceptional (it's not what a Palmer PGA ...). -1
Too bad too, the price quite high. -1
But it's totally addictive when it was!
