Peavey Mark III Bass
Published on 08/12/04 at 15:00Bought this on eBay. I had a Peavey combo many moons ago and loved it - tougher than heck and sounded excellent. Paid $142.00 and that included shipping!
The POWER and the sound! This head is absolutely something else. It could make Mr. Greenjeans sound good with the right EQ adjustments. I'll leave all the channel and equalizer and so on to the manual that is available online at Peavey. If you're that interested go get it. Downloads free and is in Adobe pdf only. It includes front and rear views.
It's heavier than the Titanic.
This thing is a beast! Made in 1978 in Meridian here in the good ol' USA. It says it's 210 watts into 8 ohms and 300 into 4. You hear this amp and you'll say a...…

This thing is a beast! Made in 1978 in Meridian here in the good ol' USA. It says it's 210 watts into 8 ohms and 300 into 4. You hear this amp and you'll say a lot of other amps are overstated or the Peavey is understated - whatever. I had the cops come visit one night when it was between 2 and 3 on the volume! I worried about no fan as the cab is extremely closed. But the HUGE heat sink in back takes care of it. I have played this cranked up when the temperature in the shade was 103 and it didn't matter. Sound is excellent and there is a combination of equalizer settings that will accomodate any style, player or axe.
Man if you can snag one of these heads for $200.00 or less, do it. It sounds better than a lot of Hartke, GK, Ashdown and lots of others that cost double this or more. BTW, I contacted the seller and talked to him on the phone, and a couple of his musician buddies, who all assured me the head was perfect and the seller needed money really bad. Wish I had the $500.00 his bass went for.
