Shells/hardware: $489.00
Cymbal pack: $110
I was looking for a basic but not el-cheapo kit. A friend recommended this one. I looked around for about two months and felt the $300-$400 range kits were OK but lacked three things: fit and finish, durability and resell value.
As for tone, my ears are semi-educated but I won't really know for another couple of years, I'm sure.
The finish -- red satin -- is immaculate. Looking at that alone, you know the drums are a cut above the basics.
The bass drum is very loud and tonally rich. Snare has a nice crack to it. Toms seem fine.
The hardware is solid and smoothly constructed. The tom suspension mounts are cool...…

The hardware is solid and smoothly constructed. The tom suspension mounts are cool and very functional.
Set up as a whole, the kit has an ergonomic and highly adjustible feel. Sweet.
Kick pedal is good but could be a little beefier. But you get what you pay for.
The fit and finish of these drums is fantastic. FANTASTIC.
I am very happy. With cymbals, a throne and some drum mutes the setup ran me about $800 but it was money very, very well spent.
What sold me on this kit is the fact that I'll probably never have to buy another set; not the case, perhaps, with your average $350 'beginner' kit. It was worth spending a little more to be set for years and years.

Published on 05/29/03 at 15:00I purchased this kit because I wanted an intermidiate kit that sounded good and looked good. I got this kit at guitar center and was very happy with them. They tuned my drums for me and cut a decent amount of the price. The cost of this kit was $500.00
I love this drum kit. The shells are all birch(which is incredible because no other kit in this price range offers all birch shells) and have superb sound. The tom sizes scared me at first because of how small they are but don't let that fool you. Pacific calls them Fast toms (Fundementaly accurate size toms). They are shallower but wider in diameter. They can be tuned low or high and still sound amazing. The snare drum this kit...…

They can be tuned low or high and still sound amazing. The snare drum this kit comes with is also impressive. It has a very clear response and has little ring if any. The finish on this kit is also very nice looking. Its ebony satin and you can see the wood brain through the finish, its not lacquered however so it's not shiny. The mounting hardweare is also amazing. Unlike pearl I.S.S. mounts, the hardware mounts around the circumference of the drum and no pipes enter the toms. The bass drum is absolutely astounding. It has amazing warmth and tone, very professional sounding, it also has matching wodd hoops. the pipes that hold the toms have a very unique style. It uses a ball and socet so you can position your toms very quickly and easily.
The only minor detail I dislaiked about this kit was that the finish is very easy to scratch. I would NOT suggest moving them around with out cases. But this can be prevented but lacquering it yourself or just using cases. It does not offer add on toms right now but Pacific/DW ARE planning on makking them very soon.
Like i already said the finish is easy to scratch. The hardware is very sturdy and does not move or slip at all. The hoops are aslo very strong and can take a good rim shot without bending.
All in all its an amazing kit. If your a serious player who wants an excellent sounding all birch kit but your not looking to send thousands of dallars this is the kit for you.
