I started percussion began last September (2004) and bought an FX Forum at Christmas. Everything was planned, the money (big investment ...), etc..
Why Pearl?
>> Sounds good, the best mark [at least the most media] is qualitative.
Why the Forum?
>> For that to have something decent, and not having to buy the cymbals on top.

Well just in retail ... I begin with the worst cymbals!
Hhmmm masterful, really crash / ride is really for beginners who do not have ears. Nah seriously, should not be used immediately. By contrast, the closed hi-hat is not too much to complain, a beginner will like it; the open hihat sounds worse than a pot. Simple as that. Crack is good as closed.
It seems that the skins are not good ... Lyrics purists in my humble opinion. Well regulated skin is not too bad (for info, I set my drumkit every time I ride it). Relaxed skin: to be avoided, skins stretched: it is valid.
Snare: I like, but played for regular skin taut, tight and tone if played on a tom is the same. Too soft skin sounded the scrap metal. You have to find the ideal setting.
Toms: nothing to say, it sounds good. And like the bass drum. The hardware is solid, whatever foot pole is not very large and thus loses its stability again is a matter of adjustment.

What have I tried before? A Pearl Export (which I tried but had no seat or cymbals) and a Yamaha Rydeen.
Level quality / price ratio, say it is worth the impretinance. OK there is nothing to say at drums, but for the price pearl would have been better had been to partner with Camber or anything else woks avoiding to leave (but if you know Japanese pans ...) .

With experience, I will not buy as Pearl, but I think my snare is a pearl. I recommend the Forum to those who simply play for passion, if concerts are possible, a tip: fill your drumkit good cymbals. In hindsight I should have bought a cheaper drumkit for less heartbreaking when I think of change, but because it's good stuff, I shall not change any time soon!

I notice 7 / 10 because the drumkit alone is worth a 8 but the cymbals frankly demeaning note. But we must be indulgent to the drumkit of studies (although the cymbals discouraging to continue to study) '^ ^
