After revising its larger models, MOTU announces an upgrade for its UltraLite compact audio interface with the AVB network integration.
This new generation is simply called UltraLite AVB, and allows you to take advantage of the Audio Video Bridging (AVB) network capabilities with a simple CAT5e cable. The interface still offers a USB 2 port (USB 2.0 and iOS compatible) so you can use it in your home studio and your Apple smartphone and tablet for remote DSP mixing capacities. If you own a Mac computer running OS X Yosemite, you can also use the Ethernet port to connect the interface.
The UltraLive AVB features two mic preamps with phantom power and pad, two instrument inputs, 6 line inputs, 8 line outputs, a headphone output and 8 optical I/O, all of which can be used simultaneously for a total of 18 inputs and 18 outputs. The optical port also supports stereo TOSLink (optical S/PDIF).
The interface is completed with a DSP mixing software which can be accessed from a simple web browser, so you can use it from any computer, iOS or Android device (by connecting the Apple Airport or any WiFi router). Identical to the mixer for the 1248 and 16A interfaces, it offers 48 channels, 7 stereo aux busses and 4 groups to create different mixes (for monitoring purposes for instance). This virtual mixer offers a 32-bit floating internal processing and includes models of British console EQs and Teletronix LA-2A leveler. Each input features a 4-band parametric EQ, a compressor, a gate and a high-pass filter. The 4th group also include a reverb.
The Ultralite AVB interface supports sample rates from 44.1 to 192 kHz and ships with a power supply.
