The Ibanez FL-301 is a flanger pedal designed for use with electric guitar, but can be used with any electronic instrument. The pedal is pretty basic in make up, as it simply has a 1/4 inch input and output and requires 18 volts of power - I use a power supply with it. This isn't a rack mountable effects pedal as it is a stomp box.
UTILIZATION
The configuration of the Ibanez FL-301 isn't hard to follow as it simply has three parameters. It has knobs for speed, regen, and width, and that is basically all that there is to the pedal. Even if you don't have much experience with effect pedals, you should be able to follow using this without any issues. A manual isn't necessary since it is so easy to use, but since I haven't personally used the manual for this, I can't say if it would be helpful or not.
SOUND QUALITY
The sounds that you can get from the Ibanez FL-301 flanger pedal are pretty awesome. Since this is an older pedal, it definitely has a vintage look and the sound to match. It is a warm sounding flanger and the parameters provide enough control that you can get a good variety of different sounding flanges. I usually use the pedal in tandem with a Fender Strat or a Gibson SG along with a '76 Fender Twin Reverb or a '65 Fender Deluxe Reverb, so I'm getting an accurate sound from this pedal and it is definitely one that I enjoy! The swirling flanger sounds that you can get are great but even if you don't want to get too crazy, you can get some subtler effects as well...
OVERALL OPINION
After using the Ibanez FL-301 flanger for a few years, I can say that it is definitely a great flanger pedal. It probably isn't among the best of the best, but it is in the next tier without a doubt. You can easily find these used a reasonable prices, although the vintage factor definitely adds dollars to the cost. If you are looking for a vintage flanger that is easy to use, the Ibanez FL-301 is a great way to go.
