« Squier Affinity Strat »
Published on 03/27/04 at 15:00Compared to about ten other stratocasters throughout the price range, including the Eric Clapton autograph model. Paid $150 at Guitar Center in Oxnard/Ventura CA.
I must have picked a good one because this Strat sounded as good as almost any that I have played. American, Mexican, whatever. Sure there are a few rough edges, but what do you expect for $150?
The pick guard that supports the pickups, pots and switch was flimsy cheap plastic. A replacement standard strat pick guard for $20 with foil shielding on the back cured that and greatly increased the sustain and tone quality while reducing the tendency to hum.
Alder body and neck (?), rosewood fingerboard. Polished black laquer is holding up well on body and looks bitchin with the new black pick guard. Everything still works pretty well but i've only had it six months.
Great value for money. A good guitar to throw in the trunk without worry.
