I mounted this kit mics about a month ago on my stratocaster Japan between 1986 and rosewood fingerboard.
What I like most is that the sound is both powerful, virile, strong while remaining very accurate. With the original mics, I used only the positions 2 and 4 because the simple positions (1, 2 and 5) were really thin, acute, short interest-free. With the CS 69 is going on in the other dimension, positions 1, 3 and 5 are very interesting and usable following the tracks, it's powerful, it goes from Deep Purple to Hendrix or Clapton with happiness. These microphones have a good understanding of the nuances involved in the attacks.
I plug in my guitar amp on a Peavey Delta Blues (a great amp that I recommend) through a tube screamer and it's really good warm sound, rough that crosses your thrills and guts.
As against the very least, there are at least three:
- Product quality: I could not mount these microphones with screws because the screws were not self-drilling and micro holes too small. I find it a bit shabby from Fender (Custom Shop and more!) To supply screws that do not rise: have to get my original screw all rusty.
- The background noise of microphone that is still quite important, yet I had been careful to shield the foil cavity of the guitar but the buzz is more important than with the original pickups.
- The output level on the strings so acute and mid is too low compared to other strings. It must be because of the studs that come out at least 2 or 3 mm for D and G strings, so that the two ropes out stronger. It's good for the bends on the G string, but as soon as it is about and if half the potato goes down and it's unfortunate for solos!
I have not tried other models of micro but I hesitated a long time (with seymour SSL3 and also the fender texas special) but the problem is to choose its microphones need to rely on the opinion forums because difficult to listen in real life.
The value for money: I found way. I have paid 177 euros in Thotho and given the above remarks, I think it's already pretty expensive.
I do not know if I do it again this choice because I would like to try other, and then plots the history of the strings tuned to D and promote ground I have still not understood (see my question on the forum ).
In conclusion I would say that these pickups are great for rock or blues / rock. As for sounds thinner (or style Gilmour Dire Strait) I think there are other mics that will suit best.
