The LaCie Rugged Hard Disk drives are portable external hard drives that come in a variety of different sizes. These are sturdy hard drives for being portable, as there's usually more a trade off between having that stability and portability. The drive has a few different ports on it, including USB 2.0 and both Firewire 400 and 800. There's also a USB 3.0 version of the Rugged drives that just has USB 3.0 on it. The drive is also totally bus powered, so there's no need for an external power supply, which is nice both for set up and portability purposes. I believe that the sizes for this drive range from 320 GB all the way up to 1 TB. The one that I've used was the 500 GB model, but there's no difference between the different drives other than the size of them. The transfer rates with this drive should be pretty fast all around, although of course it's always going to be faster to use the FireWire ports instead of the USB port, which is also always recommended. You can use this drive with any operating system and any computer, you'll just have to format it to whatever system you're using of course. The price on the LaCie Rugged Hard Disk drives of course varies depending on the size of the drive in terms of GB, but it ranges from $100 US dollars for the 320 GB version to $200 US dollars for the 1 TB version. It's usually a good idea to go with more space as it's more bang for your buck and will save you from needing another hard drive in the near future. If you're looking for a bus powered, portable hard drive for recording audio, you won't find any better than the Rugged Hard Disk line of drives from LaCie.
