    Epiphone AJ220S

This AJ220s is in Natural. Also available in Vintage Sunburst. Although it is called 'Advanced Jumbo' it is really a round shouldered dreadnought. It is the same guitar as the AJ200S, except that it has a satin finished neck.

    Made in Indonesia.

Acoustic is my go-to instrument. Beatles, blues, and classic rock are my mainstay. I'm a long time hobbyist, never in a band.

This review is actually of three examples of this model, and much of this information can be applied to the AJ200S and AJ200SR, also.

I previously owned an AJ200SR and needed to replace it, but it has been discontinued. (And that's a shame). I made my purchase from Musicians Friend, for $199.

Solid top. Satin neck. Good construction. Most of these AJ models have a great sound. (Although they do tend have a little of the typical dreadnought 'boom'). Excellent value.

These tend to come set up too low. I've seen dusty hand/finger prints under the finish on some. (Not real noticeable). Without going into a lot of details, let's just say that there are some quality control issues. But Musicians Friend will make it right, should you get a lemon.

Epiphone should think about making this guitar available in an all satin finish.

Overall construction is good. It's well put together, with even the inside looking smooth and neat. All but one that I've seen have well dressed frets. And it isn't bad. The edges are just a little rough. I'm actually keeping that one because of it's fantastic tone. The satin neck plays great, even if it does look a little odd on a gloss body.

If you avoid the lemons you can have an amazing solid top guitar for just under $200. I am basing my overall rating on the fact that this guitar is quite inexpensive. Some will need a set up.
