A unique instrument...
Published on 03/29/12 at 09:403 photosThis instrument is no longer made and can be difficult to find. My search turned up the Americana model which has Lollar pickups (Chicago and Strat in Bridge and Neck position) but only 6 strings. I was really hoping to find an 8 string example.
The obvious feature is the construction but this also makes quite a difference in the sound. With a resonant frequency of over 800hz, there is better sustain and very clear fundamental note frequencies.
There is a tone control and 4-way pickup switch on the maple end panel

UTILIZATION
This guitar is all neck and everything is easy to reach. It sits on the lap nicely and has attachment hols for a 'stand' that that is work around the neck. It can also be played standing on an x-stand.
Lollar pickups are in a class by themselves (IMHO) and the ones on this example are no exception.
SOUNDS
I use this through a Line 6 Pod500HD, some moogerfoogers or just straight in. You can get a nice blues open D or G sound or a very Hawaiian result in C6.
The best feature is the way this guitar handles harmonics. Natural harmonics really sound and artificial harmonics are easier to get than on any other guitar I've played (either using a plam or knuckle). This latter point is partially because the playing strings are easily accessed and partially because of the construction.
Blues, Hawaiian, or Country swing, this guitar will fit in nicely while bringing a unique character to the sound
OVERALL OPINION
I like the sound, construction and size / playability. It can be tricky to string (or else I'm particularly clumsy).
If you can find one of these, buy it. If you don't buy it, tell me about it I'd love an 8-string exampleSee less00
