The Echoplex Digital Pro is a real-time sampler that can record and play back immediately in a loop any sound source applied to its input. It uses the principle of the Echoplex tape but by offering all the possibilities of digital processing: sound quality, ability to record up to 16 different loops, undo, multiply, reverse, Halfspeed. It can be controlled from a foot or more dedicated, entirely controlled by MIDI, which provides access to functions similar to the MIDI sequencer (like quantize) but the audio sample. The possibilities in this rack are endless.
UTILIZATION
The configuration of the EDP is using the selection buttons on the front panel and can be stored as a preset. Gibson certain touch of the pedal and can receive specific functions. The manual provides a complete description of duties. These 310 pages may seem boring but like the many possibilities of the machine that is highly pramétrable. One has to dive but gradually a few minutes to have fun with the basic functions.
SOUND QUALITY
Side audio quality, nothing to say. Levels of input and output are adjustable and can s'adaper instrumets all and every situation.
For me I use after a guitar and the sound quality is impeccable. Adjusting the output level of the loop and feedback can be accessed by potentimètre front or MIDI controller.
OVERALL OPINION
This machine is amazing. I use it for 4 years and I can not see the end. It is the only "fact" that surprises me every day. More than a fact I would describe as an instrument in its own right in the sense that it allows to go further in the exploitation of its own instrument. In addition to the standard functions offered by the pedals easier as Boomerang, the Akai Headrusch or the Line6 DL4 of the Echoplex has amazing sound manipulation capabilities. It allows all the subtleties of certain software authorized cut & paste, but in real time!
I use it in a project guitar solo is the only effect used. Pieces are available from my website http://tfugit.free.fr . These few examples give more ideas on the possibilities offered by the Echoplex a long explanation.
